I actually like tanks as they are now.
(Maybe I should have written “unpopular opinion“ in the title)
Before you rampage at me or downvote me into oblivion, keep in mind that I'm unranked and can only speak from that experience.
Tanks can neither soak damage forever anymore, nor have they enough burst to be on par with the other roles.
So why do I enjoy tanks so much now? Because with them surviving a few very important seconds longer than the rest, having CC and doing a bit of dmg, they feel like the true playmakers of the game. Not the bullshit kind that jumps in and evades everything through mobility and oneshots peoplle, but the kind that creates windows of opportunity for your team, the kind that creates openings, the kind that can actively counter enemy plays without being blown up in 0.1 secs. Tanks are, especially in combination with support, terrific teamplayers that give their team the possibilty to actually make use of all that burst they have.
The fact that dmg is too high/def too low for a tank to soak damage forever, actually adds a layer of risk and tactics to it. A Tank has to know, more than ever, when he has an opportunity to actually wreak some havoc.(I still remember the time when a tank could get focused by an entire team for 15secs and still get away with half his health and believe me, It sucked.)
So yeah, I actually like tanks more than ever now.
