So Many Defense vs Offence Threads.
I thought I would ask.
What is the point of early game defense if you can't negate early game offence during lane phase?

Riot may as well remove tank stats at this point. They obviously don’t want them to be build with the insane amount of ways to ignore them.
Defense early game apparently only exists to counter lethality and flat magic pen that opponents would otherwise rush.
Defense in general is pretty awkward since it scales linearly compared to offense which has access to true damage conversion, cdr, crit, %pen %armor reduction and ap multipliers and even max health damage being a viable pickup to most champions if its not already in their kit.
Defense is a logarithmic function.

If it was linear you could get well past 100% defense.
It caps out at basically 90% reduction.
No, what you are thinking I was talking about was flat increase to the % resistance which would most certainly allow defense to go past 100%
The function it has now is designed give a linear effect, each armor point you get is basically 1% more effective hp against physical damage for example.
This makes defense items scale very linear (only 2 stats to multiply with eachother) while offense has an arsenal of options to allow it to reduce defensive scaling and quickly overcome it.
Yea I misread. Offence does have alot more options for scaling.

That's not how it works. +100 armor will always give you +100% of your total HP vs physical damage assuming no armor penetration.
The problem is that damage scales exponentially and Lord Dom and Void staff negate 35% and 40% of defenses. So no matter how tanky you build late game you'll still melt like butter because your stats are worth less and less as time goes on.
Um...it depends.
Defensive options should not carry your lane. It should cushion a tight situation by allowing you more time to survive or more room to breathe.
Defense isn't nearly as risky as offense, and thus offense should be more rewarding in any viable game state of League. Otherwise, you just promote extensive turtling.
