What's up with Sups lately?

Just noticing a weird trend in ranked. The last three games my bro got assigned bot, his sup went HAM - stealing kills and last hits, building full AD or AP. Three games in a row! Feels like more than a coincidence. We did win each game, but it wasn't easy, with a half-powered ADC.

Is this a thing now? Sups playing like they are mid or bot? Regardless of whether we win or lose, it feels like a dick move.

Thing is; Riot's forcing people who don't want to play support to play the role, and really, playing the typical 'babysit the ADC' support thing isn't only boring as hell, it's also unrewarding as hell. Chances are you got people who were unused or unwilling to playing the role 'like you're supposed to' and they played the role in a more 'yolo lets have fun' kind of mindset.

I don't blame them, really. Would you want all your efforts to go largely unnoticed as someone else takes the spotlight, every single game you play?

As far as i'm concerned, as long as we have a fair chance at winning i don't care whether people play off meta champions or in different play styles than is 'meta'.

Supports need a systemic change in the game to make them be full fledged champions and not the luggage carriers of every team. It's a 5-man game, not a 4.5 man game.

If an ADC I'm supporting sucks, then I'll start picking up CS and kills that Mr. I'm going to just farm in the middle of a gank is not capable of getting.

A support's job is to support the team, not babysit and kowtow to the ADC. If the ADC isn't pulling their weight, then as a support you should step up.

Probably the auto filled supports or just supports being funny.

Butthurt people who get autofilled and fail to see the appeal of the role, so they try to play it like mid.

Players being autofilled into support and trying to play as a carry. Alternatively, they may be noticing that ADCs are frequently autofilled and unreliable.

Heck, I was autofilled into support yesterday and played Janna, supporting a Sivir who refused to push the wave or leave the tower at any point. I ended up just roaming for the vast majority of the game, assisting our jungler, mid-laner and top-laners during ganks, invades, skirmishes and vision control.

Final scores (Team Score: 37 kills, 20 deaths):

  • Sivir: 3/2/2
  • Janna: 0/4/17

Perhaps it wasn't the best score, but I am quite happy considering how much I managed to help influence the map and take objectives.
