Yet another thread about Autofill...
I know Riot pays attention to their base, so this is just me giving some consumer feedback on a game I really love.
Frankly, it seems like autofill makes League a worse game. Since it's been implemented, (and it seems to be acting up more often than ever since the end of the season, with almost every game I get into having at least one autofilled person), I've noticed the following effects:
- More dodges. Lots more. It doesn't help me to have a shorter queue time if I have to queue six or seven times to get into a single game.
- More AFKs/people giving up/negativity. Folks end up in roles they've never played before and start the game either angry or resigned to lose. This makes the game unpleasant even for people who didn't get autofilled.
- Overall worse gaming experience. Even if no one on my team gets autofilled, if someone on the opposite team did then they are at an unreasonable handicap that makes the game too easy and not much fun.
- Rankedautofill is all of the above, multiplied by the stress of messing up your rank. Seriously, this is terrible.
Sure, sometimes a little pre-game role switching can resolve things to everyone's satisfaction, but too often you end up with a team where there's one role that absolutely nobody wants or knows how to play. It is frustrating for everyone involved.
Bottom line, I'd rather have a ten-minute wait to get into a game where everyone got their first or second picks, than deal with the drama and frustration of autofill. The benefit just isn't worth the cost.
