I am interested in how the poll turns out. What is your gender and what role do you mostly play in the game?

I've heard of these stereotypes:

Top and JG: Very "male" roles. Top is all about physicality and being the 1 vs 1, making your own way, independence. The JG gives you a tough Australian hunter vibe and that's usually more appealing to males.

Mid: A mixed bag. Champs like Zed and Yasuo will appeal more to males while someone like Lux or Annie might appeal to a substantial number of female players in addition to males.

ADC: A very mixed bag. Probably more popular with males just because there's such a mythic over-emphasis on the ADC having to damage solo carry the whole team all the time. More males (compared to females) are willing to devote the hours necessary to try and perfect the mechanics necessary for this kind of pre-mediated video game violence.

Support: Highest proportion of female players. Supports are seen as nurturing, friendly, helpful, protective (but in a non-murderous way), and social. Many females are stereotyped to be more able to put aside their ego for the good of the team while males would go... "I just sit there and let the ADC farm/damage-carry? **** this."

Now lets put it to the test.

Male support main. Nami's the only champ in the game I can play relatively well.

Remember that the boards are a very biased sample, meaning that it is impossible to gain any kind of scientific results based on polls made exclusively here. If this is for a school project you can probably get away with saying that the results may be biased.

Mostly females... My whole first champ line (based on mastery) are only females ^.^ Including Fiora, Lux, Sona, Lulu, Soraka...

I feel you! My top 5 are Sona, Riven, Akali, Eve, and Kat (pretty toxic roster besides Sona :P)

Male here and I agree on that (although I main mid).

There's nothing more satisfying than being that brick wall between 2 teams.

My 3 favorite champs are Veigar, Lux and Morgana. 2 of which are female so I'm not sure about some of those gender roles thing.

I unfortunately fill the female support main stereotype. I hate conforming to stereotypes but I like what I like and what I like is playing support!

Mid/ADC when I dont get other roles

The graphs are 2 years old, but I doubt much has changed with the percentage.

I'm a female and i main support (Lulu and rakan mostly) I just enjoy playing support 'cause i'm just not good with dealing damage :D I sometimes play toplane (Usually gnar) but not very much 'cause i really hate farming

One of the best female players I've met in this game was a top/jungle main (she was D3).

I have this theory that he's actually one of the most male players only champs in the game (the player base for this champ is so narrow + the fact that wearing a metal mask and blowing things up with lasers doesn't seem like its something that would appeal to girls)

I usually get filled into ADC, Support or Jungle. My most played are Jhin, MF, Sona, Lux, Zyra, Eve(Not anymore) and The Wick.

Based on this post, how you introduced the topic, and the poll questions, I think it's reasonable to conclude you are a potentially a shallow, over generalizing, type of person. I'm betting you don't think so. I mean you generalize both sexes, just wow.

In the future, consider what you want to say, write your post out, sit on it then come back and re-read it.

Anyway, you need actionable data; the way you word your post will net you biased results.

Better poll might look like this

  1. Age

  2. Preferred Lane 2a Describe why you like you preferred lane

  3. who is your favorite champion? 3a why is this your favorite champion?

  4. Select all traits that apply to your personality when playing this game, aggressive, nurturing, supportive, friendly, impatient, patient, mean, toxic, (then for each trait you'd list, by the way these are just examples, you'd want a follow up questions that says "you selected x, When you are x, is it (then list questions to determine the WHY behind their choices)

  5. Sex : Male/Female/Gender Neutral/Do not want to specify

I mean this list is just a brainstorm of potential poll questions, at the minimum if I were collecting this data I'd want 20 questions. You'd really want to think out your questions to get actionable data so you can draw a conclusion on the data collected.

Here just seems like a veiled attempt (althought maybe it isn't) to generalize males and females. ​
