Riot: "We wanted to make Kog a hyper-carry but we made him a mid-game monster instead"

You mean stripping all the power out of Kog's Q to dump it into his W and giving W a ton of base damage rather than scaling damage would shift Kog's power from late game to mid game?

Oh wow!

What a shocking development! Kog isn't meeting your design goals because the Live Balance team turned him into a mid-game champ for whatever inexplicable reason.

You know, after the hotfix buff Kog was honestly fine. Riot could have balanced Kog by tweaking his base stats and literally nothing else pretty easily. At that point all Koggers really needed was enough bulk to survive early game (recall his base defensive stats got nerfed in the remake). But instead, Riot decided to remove the AD scaling from Kog's W and gave him base damage instead. Then they gave him more base damage. And then they act surprised when Kog starts eating everyone alive using a giant heap of OnHit items.

So here's a thought, Riot. Revert Kog back to where he was at in patch 5.22. He was, at that point, okay at best. See how Kog with no base damage on his W fairs in the current game environment. If you feel like he still isn't meeting your design goals, then go ahead and roll out the full revert. Because it feels like you guys are acting heedlessly reactionary with Kog. Do you even have any Kog mains on the live balance team? Because the choices that have been getting rolled out do not reflect the actions of someone with any Kog experience at all.

I imagine all kog'maw guides are 1-sentence long. "Farm, press w, and right-click champions".

"So here's a thought, Riot. Revert Kog back to where he was at in patch 5.22." That's a good think and will make TONS of players happy, except kog mains, buuuuuuut since it's good for the game RITO won't make it :/

I dunno, I've been a Kog main since before Season 1 started and I didn't mind the remake. I thought it was in the healtheist state right after the hotfix buff, though. The buffs Riot gave him afterward were all terrible ideas, though. Every single one of them.

Mostly, the people who were pissed about the Kog update were people who focused primarily on AP Kog. And rightly so. Unfortunately, Riot has made it pretty clear that part of their intent with the Kog update was killing AP Kog. So we're basically stuck with just ADC Kog at this point. So I guess we may as well make the best of a bad situation.

Really, though, hearing Riot say 'Oh, we're going to dumpster Kog and maybe get back to him some day' isn't very encouraging.

Ah yeah, I remember back soon after the rework, Kog'maw wasn't doing well early in the game. I know, late game champ not doing well early, shocking. So they buffed his early game thinking it would help without taking into consider the game at the time. At the time, which preseason to the start of the season (late November 2015 to January 2016), a lot of games were stomps & ended before late game was a thing.

at least he didn´t have one of the most dominant laning phases in history...like some other hypercarry that can´t even be "reset" to a relativly fine state (Azir )

Ever since Riot announced that they were moving the passive attack speed from Q to W, I knew they were dropping the ball. They did it for no goddamn reason. He was already "Good" in my books, despite being overshadowed and kept in the trash bin by Lucian and MF.

Honestly this makes me very mad. I never got attached to a champion like I did new Kog'Maw. His attack speed just spoke to me on a personal level, and since he got reworked, you think they're SAFE unless their name is Ryze. I really let my guard down there. But seriously though, Riot completely dropped the ball and they need to admit that they broke the rework with their insane balance decisions.

The baffling thing is that Kog's playerbase was united against the Q to W change as soon as it became obvious that it shifted Kog's power WAY too hard toward mid game. But Riot ignored the protests and charged on ahead. Because when you have a terrible idea, why not make it even worse?

He used to have a spike at 1 item because of old gunblade. Now it's 3 items moreso. So Riot has made progress, if they made changes that allowed for his scaling to be with not only w but also q, but to make his lvl 18 a bit stronger than before that might work. Still believe that his overall design is good. I mean people have been asking for a team-dependent immobile adc for years, Kog is THE immobile team-dependent ADC.
