World's is the worst time of year to be a League player

Naalith·10/4/2019, 2:27:19 PM·105 votes·19,361 views

The balance is always completely messed up due to pro play. Oppressive picks who aren't issues in pro play like Lee get buffed while dead champions who are strong in pro play get nerfed. It's also the most stale time of the year content wise because the meta is stabilized for months and Riot holds new champions and reworks until after Worlds to be released. It's just... garbage.

Worlds 2017 caused a massive number of my real life friends to quit League because for half the season Riot refused to do anything to Ardent meta. "Durrrr Worlds is in like 6 months we can't do nuffin." Honestly I'm feeling the pull this time around myself but I stick to it because even a trash heap League is more replayable than other games. Notice I didn't say more fun, there's just more to do here after a long period.

If you're a League fan who just watches I'm sure it's fun, but those of us who play the game just have to deal with a 2-3 month period where the game is worse than normal.

Not if you main the flashy mechanically superior champions that are alrdy the best champions in the game to begin with.

i think viktor top meta was legit one of THE worst times to play lol

Some people think that Riot's balance team just doesn't know what the heck they are doing. Wrong. When the first worlds missions literally tell "play Riven or Morgana and do X" you know that Riot is fully aware of the meta they have created. Same with 2018 and 2017 heck, even back in 2016, they were and they still are fully aware of the game they created but they are not aware that people don't like it, apparently.

It really isn't. I would suggest branching out and at least trying some other games. League is pretty bottom barrel these days gameplay-wise. Nowhere near what it used to be.

I'd argue summer since that's when all the kids have school off and can easily end up in your games.

The game is always bad to play now

Is there any legit reason why the pro play people cant just play on 9.19 while the rest of the world moves on? It's not like they will make any balance changes will effect worlds because they get to play on a patch thats comfortable for them it does nothing but hold the rest of the millions of players and the game back.

The overall problem is that Riot has changed to only balance for the Pro Scene.

Ardent could have been avoided completely.

Funnel could have been avoided.

Spellthief top could have been avoided.

Want to know how all of those could have been avoided?

If riot actually looked at what was going on in Solo Queue. They have all of the stats, all of the numbers, the SubReddit, the boards, the discords, etc. Yet they do nothing with those communities. They are too far gone to notice anything that We As Normal Players have to deal with. They don't notice any of the bullshit that goes on in our games because they are too focused on what is going on in Pro Play.

I would be happy with a pro scene where they are playing the same 50 champions, if solo queue was actually balanced.

The way that League of Legends goes about balancing/changing the game is rather awful.

Right now we are in the "change basic rules" of league of legends, to change the game.

Noticeably Disarm, Obscure, Summoner Spell Taking, Scuttle, etc.

This wouldn't be a problem if the changes to the game were uniform to everyone. If everything is even on both sides then it wouldn't be a problem. Akali and Irelia were massive problems up until Disarm and Obscure were removed. Because those mechanics were wow would take a look. Unfair. Zoe as a champion is unfair.

Scuttle is a bit of a bigger picture problem. Not going to get into this one, but basically speed of the game makes jungle feel really bad compiled with base mechanics such as death timers.

If they want to change something to change the meta, change fundamental things that affect everyone. Gold Generation, Gold Gain via Minion Kills, Death Timers, Respawn timers on camps, Epic Monster buffs, etc.

But changing a champion because they are new and giving them bullshit mechanics is not how you make a game fun and fair. its how you bring about the death of your own game.

this time of year is great.

The balance is messed up because of pro play at all times of the year

MasterDClone10/4/2019, 11:36:34 PM2 votes

i don't about you but out of the whole year, worlds is time where the game is roughly the most balanced that it is during the entire season. plus during the second half of worlds is where a lot of big changes start happening and it usually is a pretty exciting time for players. Even for someone like me who hates watching pro play

LordGeovanni10/4/2019, 10:46:05 PM2 votes

There is 1 worse time. Preseason when all the mistakes from worlds dont get fixed and they add on pre season mistakes then go on vacation and not do any patches until the first week in February

PRoxy oQ10/5/2019, 6:44:57 PM2 votes

Game is pile of shit since S3 when it got to much attention. Nothing good happened ever since.

Most of us who been here since season 1 all have jobs now and dont have time to watch worlds. Not to mention most of us are unhappy with the state of the game rather its balance/match making/Skin/RP prices/trolls/smurfs etc etc.

Spooky Skeleton10/4/2019, 8:53:19 PM1 votes

Is is ever a good time to play League though? Maybe if you main all these hypermobile flashy cancer champs sure, but these last few season are horrible.

aDpRegan10/4/2019, 8:53:45 PM1 votes

after season 5 this game fell off. The rank obsession is WAY out of control. 1 for all, Urf(w/o random), dominion, ascension are ALL gone. 140 champions and soon to be only 2 maps. Literally every year, the toxicity and teams hard-throwing gets worse. TfT is boring to watch or play and that just about sums it all up. This is a troll meme game.

TrashCommun1ty10/4/2019, 11:05:24 PM1 votes

in my opinion season 7 was the best I've ever played, no one had an excuse to complain about X or Y champions being broken, because every role was viable, at least for solo q. People wanted assassins in the meta because they were useless for 4 seasons and we got Katarina with the highest wr for the entire season 7, champions such as Zed, Talon, LeBlanc were meta because lethality was op. Then we got the ardent meta which helped the ad carries to survive vs assassins and tanks were still viable.

The reason why the game is at this state is because of the new runes, riot can't just balance around them. with the old runes and masteries, you got the ability to create your unique style and choice how u wanna play your champion.

VelvetCrotch10/4/2019, 11:10:45 PM1 votes

yep. thats why the community wants separate servers since years. one for pro play and balance and t he other - well you get what i want to say.

but what happned? beside some vayne, fiora buffs and lux, ahri skins not much

I will agree I got to gold on and was on a pretty good streak and climbing then worlds started and its just..

  1. So many people on bought accounts for gold.
  2. Playing things that have no business playing in a roll (Support Evelyn)
  3. Smurfs doing final pushes to boost players accounts for money ( don't pretend you don't see this riot)
  4. the famous ( Said pro player plays this and he carried, so I can too!! ( says the silver / bronze player))
