Boot enchantments should be brought back
The argument against them originally was that too many people were taking alacrity. An easy fix would just be to nerf the amount of MS alacrity would give, and leave all the other enchantments unchanged

no the problem was that they increased average movespeed too much, and while alacrity was the biggest offender captains and furors also caused champions like Ashe and Janna to be too good at their jobs
PLEASE
it was so good for build diversity and there was an enchantment for everything, from generalizations to niches or whatever. I was so sad when they removed them ;n;
3 of them were MS related.
One was initiator-related.
One was mobility summoner-related.
Initiator one was never, ever used.
Of the mobility ones:
The 'mobility summoner-related' one was incorporated into Ionion Boots of Lucidity.
But yeah, keep thinking it was good for build diversity and that there was an enchantment for everything...lol
They were all either universal buys on everyone, universal buys on a specific class, or never bought by anyone. The only 'option' was the flash/ghost CD, which would be a universal buy mid right now...
mobility is a very broad term, and each "mobility" enchantment accomplished a different purpose.
Homeguards: returning to lane faster Alacrity: all-round mobility Fervor: complimented range/kiting
Besides, they were boots, of course there was going to be an emphasis on mobility.
And if you're only argument is that some of them were used more than others then that's hardly an excuse. That's the cause of every single meta that's ever existed and if we were just to "remove" an entire class of champions because they were currently meta then that would be considered lazy. It was no different than the boots.
Some were generally better while others provided very specific niches, each one was good for diversity in their own right, if not for the lazy balancing that Riot put into it. Your "bought by everyone" or "never bought ever" statements are exaggerated greatly and I feel like with number adjustment each enchantment could've provided a lot to a game if given effort
No. MS creep was a very serious problem and enchantments will only bring it back. Distortion boots would also be completely busted with the buffs to ghost and summoners insight.
IIRC. Ghost was buffed to compensate for the removal of Distortion boots. The increase of speed at every level was to make up for the fact you couldn't reach Distortion levels of speed, thus rendering Ghost a bad summoner spell.
You're correct.
What? I thought the argument they gave was that everybody bought Homegaurds, hence why they added homegaurds to everybody?
most people did. they're a safe buy as they will always be good. however some champs bought other ones like furor on adc. or like distortion on singed for more ghosts.
#Reboot
or just not have boot enchants since they weren't that interesting
Yeah, I was pretty surprised to see this post and for all the upvotes. Slow news day or what? They were kind of lame, cloud Drake is a lot better of a situational MS mechanic IMO.
I'm a fan of Boot Enchantments, just not the ones we had before. They need more depth behind them.

This ! Boot enchantments were nice but it was not good for everyone and some were just not as good as they wanted them to be, they need more work but need to come back.
i just want the furor boots back. Nothing like a corpse kiting you with those tastey Qs.
I liked the boot enhancements, certain enhancements were better for different roles and/or play styles or situations.
but I always thought they removed it cause everyone was getting homegaurd, and then made it so that every champion gets the homegaurd buff mid way through the game and removed the enhancements.
They removed homeguards and kept the other enchantments, and it went from 100% homeguards to 100% alacrity all the time, and then they finally removed it.
Why not remove the cookie-cut ones and add the niche ones (Furor, Distortion)? Sure, they were niche, but that's the charm. They were a fun way to enhance buys.
That said, they did roll Distortion into Ionian's. Furor probably wouldn't be needed with all the aggressive chasers using Frozen and Rylai's. Captain's the only real loss, and they've been nerfing Support item passives since S4 before just giving them Heal/Shield power.
Captain's to you
Distortion's to you
Furor's to you
Each enchantment was unnecessary and only served to exacerbate problems already in the game, with the exception of Distortion and Homeguard, which were incorporated into other areas of the game.
The argument against them originally was that too many people were taking alacrity. An easy fix would just be to nerf the amount of MS alacrity would give, and leave all the other enchantments unchanged
Too many people were taking Alacrity because the other ones didn't give many beneficial stats in FIGHTS. Sure some were good for splitting but that's about it. Even when Homegaurd was on boots I often took Alacrity on Assassins because the bonus MS was too much to pass up.
if only you could go back in time to just tell them this
Pretty sure homeguard was the majority purchase
I would still buy alacrity. I'm actually glad they're gone, there were too many abuse cases with things like fury. What I do want is for there to be a universal upgrade for boots that adds the sightstone passive. Give laners who invest in it wards, even if they have blue or red trinket.
I was thinking the same thing about bringing back the boot options, but when I really started thinking more in depth about it. I realized that they compensated ghost for it ( I read that in some ones comment) and also with deadmans plate and the wind dragon buffs, we would have champs flying all over map at warp speed lol.
so I guess I would like to add that dragons might have to do with those boot options not coming back, or at least needs to be factored in.
Just bring back homeguards as an extra homeguard on the current homeguard so Rammus can finally transcend to being a sonic OC.
Hope these upgrades comeback.
honestly with these buffs removed it made buying boots for some of my main champions almost pointles.
I tend to have no boots with compensation of movement based damage items or sometimes i keep a cheap 300 boots when im playing Kled, Teemo, Garen, Ziggs, Sion, Rumble, Janna and sona (janna and sona if me or my adc is too fed).
I guess i can mention quinn, talon, camille and master yi but i dont main these champions.
If these boots come back im gonna be using that red enhancement I forgot its name but i recall it granted move speed while your in combat.
Homeguard boot enhancement will never return unless riot decides to remove it and turn it back into a boot buff which imo is better.
I was not around when boots had enhancements, but I have seen a lot of videos about them, and as they did not explain them at all, I had to figure out what they were. I think boots enhancements could be good. It provide actual motivation to get them. Whenever I go mid lane or jungle, I usually don't get boots until early mid game. I want to use the 300 - 1100 gold to boost my offensive nature than some mere movement speed. I think the enhancements will get people inspired to get them for those who think like me. The only role I do not forget to get boots is support. Guess why? I'm not building anything of huge importance after my sightstone (I mean it can wait 300-1100 gold).
Moves peed is more important than damage in many mid lane match ups, I usually get tier one boots first back after my first damage component if I can afford them and immediately on my second back if I can't afford them during the first back. If your having trouble dodging skillshot s or are frequently getting ganked they help immensely.
I never said I don't get them. I usually blank (forget before leaving the fountain) on getting them. I usually am good at dodging skill shots anyway.
Rito doesn't explain a lot of stuff lmao
When do they ever?

you underestimate spell pen and obviously never ever roam for your team.
How many mid lane mages get Magic res as their first item? I never I said I don't get them, I said they are usually not on my top priority. I do know the power of magic pen, I always get Sorcerer's Shoes, it just maybe my 2nd or 3rd completed item. And no, I do not roam for my team. I am not responsibly for their lane and I will not risk getting behind in my lane or level/gold/cs if things do not go well. So you are right, I do not roam as a mid laner. Not my responsibility, don't have to.

the mpen on sorcs is flat, therefore its pretty bad against someone stacking mr (whats 10 or so mpen away from 150 barely does anything) however when its early game and no one has bought mr and only has base mr your taking away a huge percent of their mr and increasing your damage by a significant amount. as for roaming you've got it all wrong, you roam to attempt to get easy kills/assists = gold and as a side product your giving your fellow laners an advantage. you push wave to reduce cs loss and try to get back quickly.
Or just bring back the rest and NOT Alacrity.
Or just bring back the rest and NOT Alacrity.
Almost everyone that took Alacrity will default to Distortion then.
There will always be a "general" boot enchantment that almost everyone is going to take and the game will have to be balanced around that.
Not really. They took Alacrity for the Movement speed. Distortion was a CDR for flash ghost tele, so yes it'd become more useful but Furor at least gave the extra movement power to stick to enemies when attacking them. So I'd say we'd see Furor more often.

Everyone took Homeguard because Homeguard was a very general and very strong power buff for any champion. When it was removed, most took Alacrity because an increase in movespeed is a super general thing that any champion could appreciate. If the three boot enchantments were brought back, most would default to Distortion because everyone except Shaco takes either Flash or Ghost, so Distortion would be almost universally applicable. Not everyone needs kiting or sticking power, and even the champions that could use those powers could also use a lower cooldown Flash (though taking Furor might be more beneficial than a lower cooldown Flash).
Anyways, one boot enchantment would dominate, and then Riot would have to balance around it, whether everyone becomes super sticky or everyone gets escapes and initiations more frequently.
Actually, the easiest solution would be to Not bring Alacrity back

Then everyone takes Distortion, except for the special Captain and Furor users.
Idunno, I preffered Furor on all my Fighters, and Captain is super OP on Janna, I love it.

Sorry, I used hyperbole. My bad. I understand what you're saying, but I feel like a majority would just default to Distortion because it is much easier to use than Furor and Captain. Not everyone is a kiter or needs to be able to constantly stick to a target, or needs to initiate for the team, but everyone except Shaco reliably brings either Flash or Ghost, so Distortion has the possibility to be built on anyone (even if in some cases Furor or Captain would be better).
Yeah, it makes sense. Maybe if they reworked Distortion or Captain and Furor to be Equal in some sort.
also LET ME BUY HOMEGUARDS EARLY AGAIN PLS
yes
no instead of the previous ones that we had how about instead we get enchantments that do the following
add tenacity add AA damage reduction add CDR add mobility
and then re balance all the boots.
plenty of times i wana buy merc's just end up needing the armor from ninja's more.
I miss my
+ furor boots
Rip
They just need to rework the boot system. They are a relatively core item you will see on every single champion throughout all points in the game bar really early lane phase or really late game where they can trade off the movement speed offered due to getting it from other sources.
