Midlaners and the Spellthief line.

I'm a Sona mid main, and ever since preseason start i've been rocking Spellthief's mid. Might seem a bit strange, but after trying it just for laughs, i realized that the bonus damage on proc (10/proc, then 15/proc once upgraded) might not seem like much, but it actually helps her bullying a lot. I upgrade it alongside buying boots and getting Sheen, then get Frost Queen's claim as early as i can so i can get the gold and harass without being limited or restrained in my farm. The active makes laning safer, potentially makes engaging better, and makes her not necessarily have to face-check a bush if she doesn't have a ward.

It also makes her life a lot bloody easier once mid-late game comes and she has to struggle for farm thanks to the alternative gold outcome. So far, every time the game lasted long enough for me to sell it, i did so at a net profit.

I'm wondering if anyone else's tried it with other champs in mid and what's your opinion on it? Good mid item for low-waveclear/behind champions? DoT for easy procs? There's a few good options i'd think.

A good mid laner, probably wouldn't take Spell thiefs since the passive gets disabled on minion kill. Until the get the tier 3 item. But even then, I don't feel like it would be a good enough start.

Though it's a little more enticing in the sense that a) The mana sustain is way better than it use to be. and b) the Active is way better.

Either way, my mid lane picks are ones with strong wave clear. (i.e. not sona) So again, I don't find it an effective item. Though I will upgrade my support to Frost Queen's if I find the need to transform into an APC.

I use it with Nasus, his E spams the proc, dealing a lot of damage and granting me a lot of gold.
