Can we talk about Ahri??

ZILLAGULA··78 votes·4,950 views

Yes. You heard me right. Ahri.

She's been sitting at a 54% winrate for the whole past SEASON. That's right, number 4 highest win rate after the game after the actual meta picks. Not only that, but she is a very popular pick so there's nothing wrong with her playrate.

I'm one of the few players that absolutely can't stand Ahri. I can't stand her because of the players behind the screens. Because Ahri players usually have 12thing in common. They call themselves mid laners (even though they only know how to play Ahri on a decent level) and they can't play any other mid laner, at least not to represent their own elo.

Ahri players is also very known for protecting their champion and calling her very difficult to play, so go ahead, downvote me.

I think Ahri is very strong at the moment, especially to have such a high pick rate. She might not be as absurd to play against as a Zac or a Vi, but I don't want a Diamond Ahri in my game when she's actually not much better than your average gold player if she doesn't have her Ahri.

TL;DR Nerf Ahri, her winrate is skyhigh.

there's always going to be some champions at the top. Ahri is just really fun and safe, like Orianna. You can pick both of these champions into anything with little issue, while also have a strong laning phase that is not oppressive. The only reason ahri is picked more than ahri in solo que, is because mobility allows better roams which correlates to more games won.

I doubt riot would do anything to her right now, she's pretty balanced imo and is the least of their worries in their current situation.

Take cover before Ahri waifus will flood this thread and downvote everyone who conisders her broken.

And yes, i agree shes busted, insanely safe, impossible to gank, cc with almost no cd, aoe true damage, sustain and 4 flashes, everytime im autofilled to mid (woho) i just pick Ahri and THERES NO FUCKING WAY YOU WILL LOSE YOUR LANE WITH HER.

Any champ can sound OP if you just list their strengths.

Zilean has a massive AOE stun, a huge speed steriod that can also be used as an INSTANT 99% SLOW, can reduce his cooldowns by 10 seconds every 6 seconds, and has an ult that revives him to full HP if he dies.

Lissandra gets to cast spells for free, a skillshot blink that also does damage, an AOE root on a lower cooldown than Ahri's Charm, a slow on her main poke ability, and can make herself completely untargetable while at the same time healing herself by a shitload as well as damaging and slowing any enemies that happen to be nearby or instead use it as a targeted stun that does the same damage and slow to everyone nearby.

Kennen's ult does total 598.5(+150%AP) damage to everyone in a huge circle around him while also stunning them at the same time, plus 185(+55%AP) damage from his W.

I don't disagree that Ahri is a very safe laner, but that's really the only thing going on for her. Her only CC is blocked by minions, her Q is pretty easily avoided in lane, her W hits whatever happens to be near to her, etc. You could say "most of her problems can be solved by dashing at you with her ult," which would be true but also keep in mind that that involves getting up close and personal as a squishy mage.

It's true that it's hard to die as Ahri, but it's just as easy not to die to an Ahri. Basically just outplay her and at the very least, neither of you will kill each other. If you want some good picks into her, pick anyone who is immediately dangerous at close range or outrange her and especially champs with targeted or otherwise tricky to dodge abilities. Lux, Xerath, Annie, Twisted Fate, Swain, etc.

Some champs have more strenghts than others, and there are only 2 in this game that cannot be touched by meele Leblanc Ahri

How do you outplay something that can run circles around you while pumping damage on the move? Its like telling Ashe to "just outplay" Lee Sin.

Ahri is one of those champions that have full control over course of the fight, its up to her if she wants to engage or not, and her kit makes her impossible to outplay, all you can do to her is capitalize on her mistakes.

Actually urgot is really strong, he just doesn't quite fit into comps right now. Ashe is really strong, but dives are big and people like Ziggs are making her life hell in bot. Nunu is still the king of counter jungle and surprise ults for massive damage.

Just because their gimmick is easier to use and harder to pull off doesn't make them bad. Just means that they constantly skirt the meta and almost never make it in.

She has counterplay. She could have 100% winrate for all i care.

If i can outplay it it isn't a problem.

As an ekko main, alright.

If you want to know the real reason for the downvote, though, it's because you speak with no logic behind it, just blind rage. Win rate alone means almost nothing. Need a few examples? Ok, here are a few.

Corki mid: 54.53% win rate in plat+, I have yet to see any person complain about this.

Yasuo in general: Barely bordering 50% win rate, people complain about him all the time.

Win rates alone, mean absolutely nothing. There are so many more factors to balance than just win rate alone.

Next up, buffs! Let's see... Nothing since at least patch 6.22. Not even a bug fix. Meaning that Ahri has been this way for at least a few months, probably a lot longer, and only now you start to complain? Likely this is just a slight meta rotation, which puts Ahri in favor again.

This is blind rage. That is why I downvote you, because you are not thinking. Enjoy the rest of the day, you clearly wasted your time on this post.

Liofa2 votes

Are you just purposely being ignorant? Mid Corki also has a .00001% playrate.

ChaosThief

Still doesn't change any fact at this current point and time. Also, if you actually bothered to look at the playrate, it's 0.96%.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

0,96%playrate isn't even remotely enough to make a statement about the state of corki mid. Btw corki mid is bullshit and unfun to play.

ChaosThief1 votes

I didn't think that one through too much, being perfectly honest. Playrate with winrate is a factor, but again there's more to it than just that. A high playrate may be indicative of being strong, or enjoyable. Though low playrates are typically more skewed, for obvious reasons, they still hold some merit, since small playrate isn't all that small when the playerbase hits the millions. If it were just 1,000,000 players, 0.96% means around 9,600 players, which is still quite a few, even if not as significant.

ZT Xperimentor13 votes

Every player defends their main, it's called bias; irks-some egos though I understand. But got nothing more than a win-rate statistic? Flimsy excuse at best, I've read more convincing pages. Does she bully out the vast majority of her opponents? Can she solo entire teams? Is she dominating fed champions despite all odds? I doubt it.

Keti12 votes

Ahri is very far from a strong laner. She's probably kept strong because she's very low on the oppression meter and is very popular. It also helps that she doesn't exist in competitive play, because at high level she's easy to mitigate.

Kaioko12 votes

I'm not sure where you're getting 54% from - na.op,gg has her at 51.83% currently and Lolking has her at 52.2%.

For that matter I find her to be one of the better balanced champions as well. She's not that difficult to play but she's got some potential when you actually play her. She's actually fun to play without being frustrating for the person playing against her which is why she has such a low ban rate.

Honestly I'd leave her as is and before you start calling me an Ahri main - look at my match history and you'll see I'm by no means one.

ReshiKillim3 votes

On champion gg it's got her plat+ rating at close to 54%. But that's plat and higher, which is 10% of the playerbase at most. And generally the more skilled players as well.

EDIT: Some more statistics from champion gg plat+ Ahri in ranked, which is what it measures.

Win Rate 53.57% Play Rate 13.2% Playerbase Average Games Played 68.42

Well op.gg say they use matches from only Plat and higher as well so I'm still confused on why it's so different. At any rate though, playing at Plat and higher level myself I still really don't find her that frustrating nor do I even see her that often. I still stand by the fact that I think she's one of the better designed champion for both the player and the opponent.

I think the only problem with ahri is that she is supposed to be very forgiving and is normally a good pickup for new to assassins bronze players. The problem is right now is that she is TOO forgiving. I'd say the only problem with her is her q. Either reduce the move speed by a lot or just flat out get rid of it. She already has 4 flashes with her ult plus flash that if she ults in and then sees its a bad time to go in she can just ult twice back out.

I agree that the movement speed is a silly gimmick and most ahri mains from S3 would agree, but it can't be taken away due to the Q having short range, ahri is so sqishy that getting hit is extremely punishing. And she doesn't have the damage to justify being squishy and slow. But at the same time the Q can't get a range boost because of how safe she would be.

Thing is, she is already reliant on her ulti and removing Q speed would make her even weaker. The issue as i see it is that she is too safe with Q speed and ulti but too forgiving with both. However remove something and she is useless. The result of a change made to cover a immediate without much thought.

And if she could only get the movement speed from Q if she hits a target?

Thefrostyviking2 votes

{quoted}

And if she could only get the movement speed from Q if she hits a target?

Would make her too weak against poke mages, they could just sit at their max range and she would never be able to farm. Current solution that i use and i've seen others do in poke matchups is that you use Q to farm when you think the enemy is about to unload on you. This lets you dodge one or two spells at least.

And consider that many champions have a high movement speed/dash or a speedup ability and all of ahri's spells are slower than average. None of her spells are terribly hard to dodge unless she's right next to you. If they dodge her Q she would be as good as a normal mage caught out....lacking of course their damage, longer CC and whatnot.

Ahri only truly excels in two aspects of the game, mobility and through it, roaming. This is very little even when compared to any other mage. She cant oneshot anything without being fed or having gotten both Rabadon and luden. Then she can indeed kill squishy targets without MR.

Win rate isn't a reason to nerf something unless it's extremely high with a high play rate,54% win rate isn't extremely high.

I understand that you are mad because you got shit on by some ahri players and now shit talk them making assumptions about their skill level and personality but you have no right to.

You can go ahead and call me an ahri main if u want but trust me I'm not, and the reason I'm defending them is because you sound salty and look like someone that doesn't use their brain before pressing enter in a chat.

"I understand that you are mad because you got shit on by some ahri players and now shit talk them making assupmtions about their skill level and personality but you have no right to". If that doesn't sound salty, I don't know what does.

To be honest I win lane against Ahri. But somehow she always makes a comeback. I have more Ahri's on my team than on the enemy team, and well, I feel pretty disgusted when I win those games.

Prozzak7 votes

She makes a comeback for the same reason LB can. Nobody respects roam. Ahri is slightly overtuned atm. I feel she could use a slight damage nerf, but not a gutting like I feel some want here (and yes, I main Ahri but I also can play other mids). People need to get better at respecting champs that can roam and learn how to deal with that. If they ever do, she will take a hit pretty hard.

Keti4 votes

That's because she's a weak early laner who has very strong midgame roams and skirmishing potential, ofc she comes back.

WarlordTim9 votes

Well. You made a few good points, but then you had to go and insult the players. Were you actually trying to say something or just being salty?

ZILLAGULA1 votes

I was trying to point out that Ahri players never get to learn anything else because it's so easy to climb up in elo with Ahri. You don't need to learn anything else, and this is honestly annoying considering the trouble most of us go through climbing.

ReshiKillim5 votes

Ahri players do actually need to learn their matchups, though yes, Ahri is a very forgiving champion to play. But though she's easy to learn to play, she's also easy to learn to play against if you pay attention to her strengths.

And if you're going to talk about ease of climbing in rank, I would first talk about Annie.

ZILLAGULA1 votes

This has nothing to do with me not being able to play against her. I think she's pretty easy, but the problem is she's still sitting at a 54% winrate.

ReshiKillim6 votes

Well, depending on which site you go by, it varies between 51-54%. So the data isn't exactly accurate, though the one I see that shows an almost 54% winrate, is plat+ with the average player having over 60 matches on her.

we're going to be downvoted into oblivion, but Q ms allows her to escape+catch someone+move around to hit with the return of the ball easily which does true damage

ZILLAGULA10 votes

While also having insane mobility from a triple dash at level 6. + Having about 1500 auto targeted damage (w, r) at level 18 isn't really that healthy.

Ahristocats14 votes

she doesn't have 1500 auto targeted damage, and her R damage needs 2.25 sec to do all its damage, so it's delayed and yes it's healthy

her W damage can also be blocked by the frontline

ZILLAGULA7 votes

She still has 1500 auto targeted damage at level 18. I never mentioned doing that damage on the same champion nor in the matter of milliseconds.

Ahristocats6 votes

then why didn't you take in account the time you need to do those damage?

Doopliss72 votes

i'd say its really not healthy since most the times i play against an ahri, you can dodge her E and Q but her auto targeted W+R will do the same amount of high dmg as if she landed those skillshots, its tilting and goodluck ever trying to kill her when she has ult up.

Ahristocats2 votes

W counterplay is not being alone, yes it's a counterplay according to riot

and R counterplay is that it takes 2 seconds to get the full damage, you have all the time to do something against her

Serika Zero7 votes

to be fair, she needs that for kills unless she is far ahead. You can't kill anyone with EQW.

So, if you make her use ult defensively, it means she can't kill someone for a minute, also her roams are pretty bad without her ult. This makes Ahri a desirable target to gank even if you don't get a kill.

She is very depended on blue buff for wave clear too, if the enemy mid laner has blue, she can't keep up without her own blue. Ahri has weakness. That's all I'm trying to highlight here. Not saying she's op or up

Of all the problems in the game, you choose to complain about a champion that most certainly isn't problematic.
