then they doubled the size of his energy pool and gave him higher costs so the energy regen was no longer as powerful.

Honestly it's just that the rune system is very old and was never very well thought out.

These were actually good in Season 1/2/3, when games were longer and team fights lasted much longer. Shen and Kennen would be capped by energy, even with refunds.

They pretty much made an option for everything when they made runes, and didn't worry about 'solving' runes first for every champion. The community has pretty much since done that, and it turns out that energy runes aren't part of anyones 'solved' optimal runes.

Maybe a future energy based champ might actually optimally have them (doubtful), or future nerfs/buffs to existing ones make them relatively better on the existing energy champs (also doubtful), but they exist just so the option is there.

Bought them just for teh lulz, along with these: "Quintessence of Revival".

Well worth the 8814 IP I spend on them...except the Revival Quints, which I haven't even tried till this day... Not like I got anything else to spend my ~184.000 IP on anyway...

Energy regen per level seals actually go well on max cdr kennen. It's just not that great, cause just getting blue gives three times the effect.
