The player that was playing thresh, threw his hook with an incredible amount of win. There is no hitbox questioning.

Seriously speaking, yeah it's a problem.

It has nothing to do with thresh at all. Lucian was dashing. but his hit box doesn't actually move until the dash is over. As a result, thresh lands his hook.

Wait. Are you sure about this? I've fought Lucians many times as Zyra and that never seems to be the case. If my root hits him while his dash is being activated, then it roots him. But I have never actually hit him after the dash begins if he moves out of the way.

Positive.

Yeah there's a lot of issues with edges of hitboxes in this game. Lux's ult is another classic example.

Looks like Thresh is throwing his Hook in an arch that flew over and then with physics it hits Lucian who was walking away.

^It's a joke, calm down guys.

Yeah it's annoying how most of these hooks/grabs are fake. They need update like Nidalee's spears. Smaller and more precise hitboxes.

thresh hook end point (the tip) actually has double the hitbox (half more to each side) . A riot employee once explained why it was that in tresh case but I can't remember the reason he gave us.

Blitz hook simply fire offside from his model (the right side instead of the center) so if you are on the right side of blitz you are more likely to get hit by it and that's why it looks like it missed.

Though I understand this, it is not something "accurate". Lets take Street Fighter for an example, in terms of a hitbox. If Ryu fires a hadouken and I jump into the air, while the fireball is clearly underneath me to where it should not hit (so the animation of the fireball itself is not big enough to hit my foot), and it still hits, that's a problem.

Well... you are ignoring game physics. Models and hitboxes are 2 completely different entities that the programmers try to overlap the best that they can. The issue is that even though animations from models have travel times, hitboxes doesn't and is a waste of resources to move the hitbox ever so slightly to match the model at every infinity given point. So what most programmers do is either move the whole hitbox at the begging (or the end) of the animation or in long animations they have intervals where they move the hitbox. That is what causes the difference in the overlap between model and hitbox.

Like i said I don't remember the actual reason for the Thresh hitbox, but if you think about it, Thresh hook is a short animation with a relatively long range, so by making the tip wider you could easily save resources and still make it look the hitbox accurate most of the times. it also could be that Lucian dash is programmed to move the hitbox after the animation is finished and not at the beginning of it so Lucian was still at the initial point prior his dash. It could be a combination of boths.

The end point is that you need to balance Clarity and performance, if adding a slight on clarity means stressing your computing power too much then is simply not worth it to do it.

I don't care why the problem exists. It's a multibillion dollar company and it's been seven seasons.

Thresh's hook is a triangular shape, it starts narrow and gets wider the further it reaches. bunnyfufu has a video talking about that, you should check it out.
