So, This is What Our Beloved League Has Come To

The Pungulator··90 votes·6,295 views

I just queued up for a game, hoping to progress my Syndra gameplay level to a level 4 mastery. All was going well, and I called "mid" before the other people did, like normal.

Then, all of a sudden, this other summoner joins in late, way late, and insta-locks Ezreal, and types in all-caps "MID". I thought he was kidding, so I playfully type, "Ummm Ezreal, I called mid" to which he responds, "HAHA SUCK IT I GOT MID".

Now, I was a little mad. All I wanted was to play a normal game, and here comes this other summoner and ruins my day.

So we then go and play out the match, lose, unfortunately yet obviously, and I come to the post-game screen. My team mates are all, "So I should report him, right? For Refusing to Communicate with our team?" And I respond, "No, don't. Reporting someone in normals doesn't punish the other person at all." And the mean Ezreal responds, "Yeah, report me all you want, but I will still play this game."

So yeah. I'm pretty much out of anything to say.

Reporting is just as effective in normals as it is in ranked. Only 2 differences really:

  1. There's no prisoners' island to send them to in normals (ranked gets sent to normals draft)
  2. People are less likely to report in normals games.
  • 2.5) It's worth noting that the system only counts 1 report each game regardless of mode (to prevent group queue abuse). Though all reports are read.

As a result, it takes longer for people playing normals to be identified and to be punished.

I had a particularly amusing cr+p shoot earlier today that followed this model. Short version: we ended up with a new Vayne going solo top, Support Darius and J4, Jungle Shaco and Yi. The communication was so bad it looped back around and evolved into hilarity.

ranked gets sent to normals draft

you sure this is accurate? needs citation, because afaik this is simply not true

Gavran13 votes

It's called "Ranked Restriction." It is accurate.

nomeensno5 votes

Sounds more like a ban from ranked, than a "prisoner's island," as he called it. Prisoner's island as it is normally defined allows you to continue to queue up for ranked but places you with other players who are also repeat offenders.

I think the concept he was envisioning in terms of normals draft being PI is that during ranked restriction negative players HAVE to play a certain number of normals draft to be allowed back in ranked so negative all layers end up there. To avoid them as much as it is possible to do, players who have never been even chat restricted like myself, just play ranked and maybe the occasional team builder or something. Then the majority of players in normals draft are negative players and sometimes they can end up feeding into the rage of other players and getting reported and continuing their restriction so normals becomes a more toxic environment that is difficult for players to improve behavior in, and thus toxic behavior gets stuck there and just feeds it self.

One clarification: normals draft still has plenty of non-toxic people in it, so it's not a prisoner's island.

Fuck blind, go draft or teambuilder, just for this reason.

Play Team-Builder, I quit blind pick a LONG time ago, because of the amount of trolls in it and its saved me a hell of a lot of dodges.

Wait are you serious? I thought when you blocked people, you could never be matched up with them again. If this is the case then I'm not wasting my time blocking peeps anymore lol, not like victory is of importance nowadays.

What the heck gave you the strange and totally unfounded missconception that normals are not punished every bit as severely as ranked sans the ranked restrictions?

The Pungulator1 votes

In my experiences, whenever someone gets reported, or I get told that I will be reported, I have never seen the consequences. I just assumed that the consequences in normals are way less harsh than ranked, simply because normals doesn't really count. But what do I know, I'm just an average player.

Wheatloaf4 votes

Unless you think you deserved those reports, there's no particular reason you should have seen yourself punished...

serves you right for not using the proper TEAMBUILDER normals.

Ya, same thing happened to me the other day. There are so many people who play mornals who I can only describe as immature. They instalock, spew out profanity, are real pains to their teammates and the enemy team, and simply and simcerely make me hope that they are no older than 14 or 15

As the game becomes more and more popular, it is up to us, the more mature playerbase to be an example to the newer, younger, or just less mature players.

The Pungulator3 votes

Yeah, I agree. it's just not fun for anyone on the troll's team when they go and troll the game like that. I would upload a screenshot, but idk how to.

Rude people will be rude people. Don't let it 'ruin your day'. Next time, just play teambuilder~

Play Dominion.

The lack of lane roles means you can take whoever you want pretty much anywhere and still contribute to your team so long as your damage types are at least somewhat split between magic and physical.

People over there are also less likely to be assholes.

it's not as bad, but dominion matches are a bit rare these days

Once your elo gets high enough, the bot population dies down to about 2/10. And the queue times goes up to about 10-15 minutes. (>_>) Only really dedicated people play it now days, since no one knows about it. Which means you'll probably need a few hundred games to meet any of them.

Here is a screenshot of the after game conversation.

Sona Ping8 votes

You should send that, unredacted, in an e-mail to support.

The Pungulator1 votes

What does unredacted mean? Sorry, words aren't my best subject :D

Sona Ping1 votes

lol, I mean send it in without all blanking and cropping you did to the screenshot.

You should learn that one; it's got a few meaning but you would need "redact" for quite a few political/spy movies :P

The Pungulator1 votes

Ok, thanks man! But I'm worried that if I send it in w/o blanking out their summoner names, I'll get in trouble for, like, throwing someone under the bus like that. But idk.

zPOOPz2 votes

Only if you send it to support in a private email. It's not like they can't pull the entire chat themselves and see everything. You're just making it easy for them by sending the unedited version and hopefully get your issue resolved faster.

Who was higher pick?

Sona Ping6 votes

No one. It was blind pick.

Koldheartedjsp14 votes

Oh. Blind is almost always who can lock fastest.

I usually avoid blind fir this reason.

Sona Ping6 votes

"Blind is almost always who can lock fastest. " Not in my experience, but okay.

Koldheartedjsp7 votes

damn really? lucky you. just about every time for me that ends up being the case :/

LordGeovanni3 votes

blind pick is who calls lane first. if you dont communicate where you want to go and just pick and you insta lock vayne or quinn then go top when it starts or instalock ezreal and go mid insta lock lux and go mid or support. not communicating with your team is a far more efficetive form of trolling than feeding

T RexHasTinyArms1 votes

Or you just lock the champ you want to play request lanes it is good in and then fill whatever role the team needs that hasn't been called yet. It isn't ranked so you can play stupid stuff that works only every other time or every 4th time you see lay it as long as it is fun.I actually really enjoy playing heimer bot lane instead of adc at this point, but that may also be that my normals mmr is so much lower than my ranked one we generally stomp bot lane with heimer instead of adc and it is funny to win with when the team starts out not believing in you at all.

LordGeovanni1 votes

lets say everyone has this mentality everyone locks in a champion in 3-5 seconds of lobby starting with no regard to other champions then start to call lanes you most likely have a super fuked up comp with little to no play ability or synergy

T RexHasTinyArms1 votes

Yeah, and it's blind pick. Blind pick is legit just a place to practice stuff that is so OP it is never unbanned in ranked, or a spot to play bc you want to find a game fast and don't want to wait for bans and stuff in addition to que time. If you're playing a serious game where team comp is a huge issue then it's probably not blind pick.

I'm definitely in the minority on this I'm sure, but personally, if you have me fill a role with something that makes sense (like swain top I think in the last blind I played something where I talked w/ a team about what lanes everyone was going and they sent me top) you're probably in more trouble than if I'm just playing something I want to and will fill wherever. The champs I like playing most I know well, and I win a surprising amount of games w/ stuff that shouldn't be in X lane because it's weaker there, and lose a lot of meta pick games bc I'm practicing stuff I've never played before instead of playing one of my favorite champs. More importantly it's blind pick, if you play seriously every game your mmr goes up for normals and you stop being able to do stupid stuff and still win.

praticeing things and chaos are totally diffrent

Iron IV dude4 votes

Sure you are not talking about draft or teambuilder?

Blind pick for me is like: 3 Players join the chat Player 1: "MID MID MID MID" Player 2: "MID" Player 3: "MID!!" Me: I'll go top ok? Player 1: "timestamp Player 1 "MID MID MID" timestamp Player 2...." Me picks Riven Player 4 joins Player 4 instalocks lb Player 4: Mid Player 1: "FK YOU **** *** ***** ***** **" Player 1 locks in any mid champ Player 1: I'm mid Player 2: I go adc.... Player 3 instalocks Jinx Player 2: ... rly? Jungle than Player 2: picks jungler Me: Meh...

Support Riven incoming!

let's get this rollin! Hint: Mostly someone else (Player 2 in this case) goes Support, so Riven jungle incoming.

They barely get punished in ranked. Had 2 trolls 2 games in a row right after riot made punishments better n shit. Watched their lolking to see if they ever got a ban. NOPE. Their match history just showed more trolling and ruining ranked for 100's of players.

Nice punishment system riot

Trídent2 votes

Trolls don't get punished at all xD It's the toxic people that Riot cracks down on... and ignore the trolls that provoke them >.<

Gavran3 votes

Oh, geez, just so much wrong okay let's start...

[{quoted}](name=The Pungulator,realm=NA,application-id=3ErqAdtq,discussion-id=xFoOQiMP,comment-id=,timestamp=2015-07-06T02:14:39.636+0000)

I just queued up for a game, hoping to progress my Syndra gameplay level to a level 4 mastery. All was going well, and I called "mid" before the other people did, like normal.

"Calling" roles doesn't mean anything, Riot's official stance on it has been that it doesn't matter for years now. Whether or not you computer loads faster or you can type (or lock in) faster gives you absolutely no authority over what anyone else on your team does.

Yep that's blind pick. Don't play blind pick. If you want to play a specific champ/position, play Team Builder, if you want teamwork, play Draft. Blind Pick is the land of nobody cares about anybody else at all.

And I respond, "No, don't. Reporting someone in normals doesn't punish the other person at all."

Wrong, reports in Normals have exactly the same weight as reports in Ranked. Seriously where did you even get the idea they didn't?

Finally, none of this has anything at all to do with "what league has come to." Every single element of it has been here forever, except that years (like, 2 or 3...) ago Riot took no stance on pick order vs call order. Then they did, and they chose to endorse pick order and not call order.

Drunk Rummate3 votes

what makes you think it does nothing to report people in normals?

I've had games similar to yours where I actually got the client-message stating that "a player you recently reported has been punished"

So yeah, it definitely works....
