Congrats Riot you've completely homogenized supporting as a role
It's not oh you picked Janna or Nami, it's oh you picked redemption and locket, good job. clap
It's not oh you picked Janna or Nami, it's oh you picked redemption and locket, good job. clap
it's not you picked braum or karma it's you picked redemption and locket
this description is better since even tank supports are building shields/heals items
supporting is no longer about tanking/doing damage(except brand)/ccing/protecting
it's AOE shield and AOE heal
Debuffs disappeared
We've never had a debuff support and we never will. The most we got on a champion was Sona hitting people with her green chord but even then that wasn't TRUE debuff champs. Hell, Trundle has more debuffs than any support champ. (Hence why support trundle is a thing)
And IDK where you're getting that. Damage/Tanking/etc is still a thing. It's just that locket/redemption is so good that you can make them work on any champ. Braum tanks better with both. Nami heals/sustains better with both, etc etc etc. On the plus side it means almost any support can work thanks to the items but, on the downside, it also means that whoever works the best with these items is the "best" character.
Nunu was a buff/debuff support and he was gutted out of the support role because he was actually decent at it.
True, but Nunu was a champ played at almost every role (Top, Jungle, Support) and of them usually his support was the worst save for season two. At this point I'm fairly sure he's just an annoyance jungler.
LOL sure, old taric removing 30 or 40 armor in AOE is sure not a debuff Support trundle was sure not a debuff
Hence why they changed it, and while I did enjoy the old Taric, I also really like the new one.
I'm not sure how many people know this, but Trundle Chomp actually steals 20/25/30/35/40 AD.
Which is irony, since they recently defined entire subclass of Mage Supports without heal or shield focus but with CC and displacement focus. Lol.
adc build
for the longest time now
with the exception of
and perhaps
who imo has build diversity cuz she can pick 2 build options
bashing supp itemization aside it did open up new possiblities for support right now
just that items such as
need their cooldown on their unique passive removed. nothing sucks more then putting it on someone and have them die because they thought they could 1v5 and now you gotta wait 70-90 seconds for it to come back.
rename it to something like knights sanctuary
Aside from the fact that's riot's incompetence at work, damage items don't warp the game as much as cheap aoe shields/healing that scale off level rather than gold do, especially ones that you can't miss at all. Atm the support has been turned into a second hp bar for their team and that's their defining trait now. A lot of terrible supp players love to say "well now we can impact the game durr" when they don't realize essentially a bot can do what they do with redemption and locket.
No.... actually damage items warp the game far more than support items, just a passing glance at the history of items in the game will show that.
draven jhin and mf still get ie
All of those ADCs get IE except for Ezreal. It's just the Runaan's that's different.
And that's an issue as well. Marksman itemization was intended to be more diverse and less static, but while the marksman update did introduce significantly more build diversity, the class is still stuck with a lot of fixed items, whether it be for some or all members. The larger issue, though, is that marksmen all tend to contribute much of the same overall, e.g. pushing power, team DPS, objective control, etc., and much in the same way, i.e. basic attacks, so even though some of their items are pure stat sticks, they at least don't make the marksman class drastically more homogenous in its contributions than it already is.
The problem with support itemization right now, specifically, is that it's homogenizing what is probably the most innately diverse class in the game. Even with common effects like heals and shields, every support plays and contributes in a manner completely different from every other, so it's kind of disappointing to have their items do practically nothing to emphasize the power of their respective kits, and instead all give them actives with so much raw strength that they all basically end up with about 3-4 extra basic abilities in common.
To be clear, the issue isn't especially that supports have powerful actives; that much is fantastic. The issue right now is that these actives end up practically eclipsing the innate power of the support wielding them, to the point where supports don't really feel valued for their champion's unique contribution so much as the items they bought, which repeat themselves across matches. Effectively, it makes the support class feel less diverse than it truly is, and thereby less interesting than it could be, at a time when supporting is still the least popular role in the game by far.
Also, make sure you hold your ADC's hand on his way to school... otherwise your 'lack of communication' (aka not performing meta support because your teammates report you and it is a 'negative experience for them') will get you bans
OH, DOES THAT MEANS IT'S FINALLY THE TIME FOR
??
Add a
in there and you will be Challenger in no time.

is obviously a perfect support right?
Passive: reduce the enemy damage
Q: Ehh some damage ability (but it can slow with W)
W: Makes auto attacks and Q slow (unless they break the shield but then they are hitting the support)
E: Armor shred (and easier to slow with Q)
R: Suppression + damage reduction

WAAAAAH, 2 CHAMPIONS BUILT THE SAME ITEEEM RITOOOO REPOOOORT WAAAHA
It's less "two champions are building the same items" and more "these items are powerful enough that they actually matter more than the champion's kits".
Which is sad in a role where the champion's specific kit mattered the most for the longest time.
It's truly truly outrageous.
And this is exactly the reason I've given up Support....the role I've mained since I started playing early Season 4 :P
Wait this was sarcasm? I freaking love how support is based on items now. It's amazing. ADC has always been based on items; they're literally walking bundles of items. Support has always been shoehorned into "Either be Nami, Karma, or Janna... or get flamed and lose." I can actually have variety in the bot lane now.
Heck, I feel obligated to pick up an occasional redemption even on Vel'Koz sup.
Well.... 400 hp + 10% CDR + 75% mana and hp regen with the amazing active for only 2100 gold is pretty darn good on almost any support champion (while yes HP isn't amazing it is still somewhat useful)
Wouldn't be bottom lane without both classes having absolutely no diversity or choice on what to build!
I find it to be a problem that they basically get a health bar sized shield if they actually max heal and shield power with face of mountain. It might not be an optimal build for any one champion but the fact that it can add even more shields makes it really crazy. Add this on a support that already has shields and you'll basically be able to give them 1.25 or 1.5x HP.
And I wonder, what was Riot's reasoning for changing Aegis? Nice consistency in your thinking, balance team.
"We don't want Locket to be the go-to item for supports"
