Is true balance really possible in games?

Has LOL ever really been balanced? Is it even possible at this point? No matter what riot does something is always going to be stronger that something else Tanks too strong=assassins to weak adc to strong=assassins to weak assassins strong= mages too weak ETC, ETC, ETC

Why act like balancing this game is that easy? League has nvr been balanced. EVER. the tank meta which the Boards hailed as balanced wasn't rly balanced. Adc and assassins felt very underwhelming. Balance in games is impossible. Something is always going to be OP/UP. Even chess isn't balanced.

At this point i think riot is just telling boards to shut-up and enjoy the dam game.

Perfect imbalance.

Google it. Stonewall did a really good simple description of it, and there are in-depth explanations elsewhere.

balance is not possible, this is actually are very balanced meta, and even then it is not good enough.

Except it's not really balanced compared to the older states of the game.

it honestly is balanced, ive been in patches where everything felt underpowered and multiple champions were hard core S++ tier broken

In this patch, I would not rate a single champions past S tier, and only one champion in my books is in S tier at all

their is over 20 champions i can say who deserve A+ tier and even more in A and B+ tier, you want a meta where everything feels good, and near equals toward eachother.

What you dont want is a meta where for example the majority of champions are in B tier, and only a select few are in A or S tier

Really now? Nobody beats S++ tier? Graves Udyr XinZhao

None of them?

PhantomGG1 votes

nothing at the moment is S++ tier

S++ tier means it is so broken that the moment you pick it or have it on your team you basicaly automatically win. No champion this current patch is S++ tier

Really, because Xin Zhao and Udyr are picked or banned every game I've been playing. And Graves is getting an item nerfed, because it was so damn good on him.

i have beaten both champions, I have lost while haveing both.

The fact I can make such a claim means they are not S++

So because they're able to lose, they're balanced. So I guess in your book when a champion is S++ tier is when they reach 100% win rate am I right? Because you can't win every game as a champion.

I'm pretty sure balance is possible. Yeah, I'm absolutely certain that balance exists and is a proven concept.

What game? I've played many of steam games, card games, even fps shooters. Never was everything balanced. Always a op gun, character, deck, or class. And the same for UP

Faith Breaker1 votes

Oh it exists, it's out there. But it's not quite so prevelant or easy to use as an example. Even in a normal deck of cards there are balance issues (The Jokers, hell the Spades .... for example) But there is balance in games. Lame but legit example? Tic Tac Toe. If you go first there are ways to set up wins. If you go second there are still ways to win. There are also ways to go 2nd and prevent player 1 from winning creating a tie. That's a balanced game.

As far any of the games you mentioned, or League of Legends? No. But the Phanatos troll guy said balance is not possible and I said it is. Because it is possible.

It is possible to achieve a point where it is relatively balanced all around the board, but Riots bottom line probably wouldn't want to support that. What gets the community going is trying out the new busted fotm champ after a new buff, or trying out the new items, and the meta changes. But we keep going in cycles where certain classes are enforced, such as last years assassin meta into tank into bruiser and now marksman/assassin again.

But it's pretty tiring though, you pretty much spend your career wondering if your champion is ever going to get gutted randomly or suddenly reworked from under your feet.
