Doesn't get any easier in college.
Furious knocking
Looks up from computer
Knocking continues
Sighs
Goes to see who it is
Lowers volume and tries not to click loudly
Brings me back to my Starsiege: Tribes days.

That's when I ask if I may finish what I'm doing, usually asking nicely they say yes.
When you have a job, a child, or simply being as respectful to your spouse as you should your mother, you learn to plan your time accordingly. If you're not sure you're going to have the time to finish a game, then simply do not play. You'll learn to fill that time with things that either take less time or can be paused.
My wife does not need to ask me to pause my game, not usually. If she's home, I make it clear, "hey, I'm going to be playing this game for the next allotted amount of time." and she's respectful of that because I'm respectful in return by being coincious of other rituals (I.e. dinner) or responsibilities (including taking care of her and our daughters' needs).
I totally lucked out with my parents, they understand how online games work, and have taken to telling me whatever it is that needs to happen an hour before hand.
I played a game in the middle of the class once at the university, all 20 sumthin kids were giving me the dirty look and then one dude shouted loudly "DUDE STOP CLICKING" and then the prof looked at me and i had a poker face on xD, embarrassing yet funny moments.

You can if it's Dota :D
YES! HOLY SHIT YES! I am SO sick of this when it's around a meal-time!
"PAUSE YOUR GAME AND COME EAT!" "No, I can't!" "YES YOU CAN, GET YOUR ASS OUT HERE!" "It's an online game!" "So what? Get your ass out here!"
I have no job, no money, and I live with my parents. on the plus side, I haven't even graduated high school yet :D
Me: "Hey mom! I'm going to start a game. Don't get on any videos, okay?" 15 minutes later Me: "Mom? My ping is spiking really badly. What's up?" Mom: "I'm watching So You Think You Can Dance!" ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Me: "Uh... Can you wait until later? Like, get on facebook or something... Just no videos." Mom: ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
My mom understands that League is a game that can't be paused. And THAT'S why she hates it, really.
Same.... but it was before.... Now I play the night so I'am living perilously
Back when I was in college several of us played league. But some of the girls would complain that we were to loud when we played after supper. Never stopped them from coming home at 2 in the morning and destroying the place, lol.
I don't anymore, but lived through it, also, holidays are coming up and that will probably happen again.
+1 cuz thats how it works with all 5 five members of my family
Then again if you have parents like mine you'll get beat just for trying to play league... so you have to hide under ur bed at night after stealing the laptop really late at night and if they find you... well its another fucking beating
End then ofc u get a prio que which is probably worse cuz then you have to wait another 20 mins to play a game which means u need like 60 - 80 mins man so annoying
It's why I always make sure, my father is set and needs absolutely nothing for the nest 3 hours or so.....wish I could say the same for unprecedented relatives.
