What if there was more blocking the nexus than two towers?

9kPluzZ··97 votes·5,846 views

What if there was a statue/golem in your fountain, and when both nexus towers are downed it comes alive, your nexus is immune for a bit of time, and starts defending with your team.

I mean, you have all these cool magic statues everywhere and they can't even move? At least one of them should come alive and start whoopin some ass. This would also allow for comebacks, because there are sometimes at like 20 min you just get seiged and lose out of nowhere. Because of one fuckup. We all know thats bs.

Pretty sure it should be considered an epic minion like dragon / baron

Good idea, but I doubt that will happen.

I always liked the idea of the nexus fighting back in Smite (it made it harder to back door since you had a chance of dying if you did something wrong, like mis-placing Loki's decoy) and, to be honest, if you took down the "nexus guardian" solo, you deserve to kill the nexus.

I mean, it would definitely give the losing team more time to react, which is what is sometimes annoying when you have a TF ulting into your base to take out the nexus... A little salty about ADC TF's 3 second stun and 1.5 attack speed in one of my recent games.

3TWarrior1 votes

it doesn't get 3 seconds, but 1.5 in a battle of adc's can be all he needs

the sad part though is that twisted doesnt' have the attack speed of other adc's so he starts dropping an attack compared to them. He also has lower base stats as a mage

don't get me wrong, I love him, but with a decent lane partner, it's easy to punish him and he rarely will get to late game

NichtHurz2 votes

His base attackspeed is lame, but he compensates this with the passive attackspeed bonus from his E. Of course he's not optimal as an adc, but attackspeed isn't his problem.

Axis the Dragon1 votes

TF's problem isn't Attack Speed, it's a lack of damage outside of autos and a lack of range (which Firecannon->Gold Card definitely helps alleviate).

Functionally speaking, Kennen and TF fill very similar roles in the ADC department - low actual damage, but high CC. TF trades less CC for more map movement and utility. I suppose they fulfill the same fantasy as Ashe, in that case. Heck, Kennen might have even more pure auto damage than Ashe. xD

Tuss1 votes

I agree on the range issue. I've tried him in bot lane numerous times, weathering the chewing out by my teammates for it, and it just really sucks that you have to walk halfway into the enemy ADC's range (or at least it feels like it) just to get your own harass in. I know his range can't really go up a tier because of his W. I'd think he'd be fine as an ADC substitute for certain comps.

Axis the Dragon1 votes

He's good as an initiator, actually. The spammability of Firecannon -> Gold Card is incredibly good for instant CC, and it also has really good range (iirc around 700, which means it's around 800 range when compared to a spell). He's a lo-fi Ashe in that regard, bring more upfront, reliable and relatively spammable CC over damage and range (depending on TF's CDR, they bring relatively similar levels of kiting)

Paired with more lockdown (TF synergizes amazingly well with Thresh or Blitz, for example) and he makes pick comps thrive.

I feel HotS has a solid nexus as well. I always disliked leagues "well towers gone the nexus will be gone in 1.5 secs top"

TonyTonyMordecai2 votes

Yeah, I feel like HotS and Smite had the right idea for the nexus to not be some defenseless "killed in 3 hits" rock, because if you're just trying to reduce the enemy's numbers and have some pushing advantage, you had some insurance that the nexus would keep people at bay until your team got back to base to stop him.

In smite, the Nexus (aka) tries to slap you to death. This guy's idea was a 3th thingy to defend the not-slapping-nexus. summoner 31

I'm not sure why this would be better than just upgrading the towers and if there isn't a strong reason to pick this over tower upgrades I doubt Riot would go for it.

EverTokki3 votes

Oh my god, this should happen. The nexus doesn't even need to be invulnerable when the golem is alive. He should have an AoE effect and be so strong that the team would die even before they touch the nexus unless they get rid of it.

For split pushing, you could make it so the less enemies there are around the golem, the less magic resist/armor he gets so that split pushers could get rid of them, since... uh riot wants to encourage split pushing.

Rito "games needs to be faster"

Smite has a boss instead of turrets and a building, its really cool

RAID BOSS TIME!

Rozair2 votes

Love it. I love longer games. Idk why riot likes fast games. It's stupid and takes all epicness out of the game

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

Agreed, I enjoyed the steady build up to clashing at full builds; this snowballing from first blood has made the game snore worthy, it's not interesting to watch one team spawn kill the other for 5 minutes and win. While being frustrating to play, the loosing team can't make any progress to come back, the winning team can't setup any impressive combos when their support is 2-shoting the loosing tank.

Stephenizgod2 votes

This would be a great idea and just to solidify the whole "you wont lose because of one fuck-up" idea, its strength should be based on your teams gold income or objectives or assists or something. Like if you truly lost because of one mistake, you should be doing fairly good on other aspects and would have had a chance of winning if not for the one mistake, so the Golem gives you that chance (but remember their Golem will be strong too, since they are obviously winning). If you were not doing good and think it was because of one fuck-up the strength of the Golem will determine whether you could have made a comeback or not.

Remlap12232 votes

That's what Smite does already. Instead of a Nexus, there's a raidboss.

Slamurai Jack2 votes

So you want to make it harder to come back? Because this kind of change would be far more likely to help teams that are ahead and lose a teamfight than it is to help teams that are already behind.

Saianna1 votes

But Riot wants games to end faster...

ZT Xperimentor2 votes

Well riot can shove it up both nostrils, that's not why the vast majority play the game. I don't a 15 minute long game if it's a close game; I'm talking the junglers racing for the opposing inhibitors kind of thing. These curbstomp games are flatout painful, like it's not worth trying kind of pain; and you know what happens to a game that people don't want to play? Yeah riot will find out real quick when their player base disappears. If they continue to railroad the game like this, I doubt it'll see season 8, but I'm just speculating. I agree I'm expecting them to continue their trend of chunking the game down, but I'm in short, saying I don't like it, and I know I'm not the only one.

I really hope you are right :)

A lot of other MOBA's have something like this (except in most that I've seen, the golem is the nexus), which in turn means that Riot probably won't do it.

Spoofghoul1 votes

I like this idea this is how i would make my golem

levels up every 3 minutes, And 5 minutes after it hits maximum level it gains 15% bonus stats and double the health regen when it turns into a statue again.

Give it 25% dmg reduction. And another 15% aoe damage reduction. 20 + 10 x level armor and magic resist. 4600 + 300 x level hp. 40 + 20x level damage. 0,67 atk speed. Its attacks deal 50% magic damage and ignore 35% of defenses.

Every third auto attack is a big one which knocks nearby enemies backwards 400 units and deals 50% increased damage.

And 0,6% hp regen per second whilst it becomes a statue again.

Becomes a statue again once it has not been in combat for 10 seconds and can not come alive again for the next 20 + 1 per level seconds.

A huge change for League, however I also liked Smite's nexus defending itself, I wouldn't be opposed to giving the Nexus a laser that was only active if the two towers in front were destroyed.

bobsenbob1 votes

kind've like the titan from smite, but instead of being the nexus, it defends the nexus

FantasySniper1 votes

What if they were changed to roaming Golems? Like two giant super-minions.

They could travel around the base and prevent any fight within their territory from becoming easy. After they're destroyed, they return to the Nexus and have to recharge for 7 minutes. Would completely fix how weak inhibitor turrets are by allowing one or both of the golems to roam and help damage enemy champions, helping to prevent a snowballed team from taking an inhibitor even after its turret is down. No more waiting outside Nexus turret range until they can dive.

AbsorbedHorizon1 votes

I like the game Smites concept where there isn't a nexus it's a giant boss ( like a harder baron ) and even if you ace the team you have to take down the boss and it's a difficult fight. That way both teams still have a chance if they are aced and the enemy is at nexus
