Random thought about Garen

Why doesn't he gain Tenacity/Slow Resist/Movement Speed against or at least while chasing down the Villain?

It could probably be a sizable buff, yes, but Garen's not exactly in the best place at the moment (though tbh we should wait and see until post Assassin Update) and at the very least this would be a buff that makes decent sense on him thematically as well.

Did you know that in return for Garen getting True damage on a random Champion with his ultimate, he lost...

  • (B) Health growth reduced to 84 to 96 (-204 hp)
  • (B) -5 movement speed
  • (Q) 1 second silence at Max rank
  • (Q) 5% movement
  • (Q) 1 second duration
  • (W) 30% Tenacity on active

The Juggernaut rework was a failure and made Garen worse to play as if you're not against the Villain(and even then, the fed champion can outright kill you). The only reason Garen was good is because the Juggernaut were insanely overstatted and there was bugs with Garen's Villian true damage that caused it to do Garen's HP% + Villian Revenge. After the nerfs to the items, Darius remained consistently good while Garen has fallen to a subpar state and can't even fight Darius anymore(used to be a skill matchup slightly in Garen's favor). Riven literally outright destroys him now more so than before.

When you get on League people will tell you how shit of a champion Garen is Plat+ but on the forums everybody states that he is fine and do not want to discuss him (same with issue Pre-rework Gangplank before that Riot Gmang finally came through). It's difficult to try to get in contact with a Rioter on this and it doesn't help that there is no Balance subforum similar to Optimatch from the old Halo days (good mods lurking that made sure posters had constructive posts). He probably won't get a general look at again until 2018 with a REAL (mini)rework.

i honestly disagree. maybe it wasnt great, and the entire idea of the villain mechanic needs tweaks. maybe it was just the other changes to his kit that did it for him, like the change of the spin tick mechanic on his e, and the return of the flat resists on his w.

but overall he was in a worse place before, when it came to actually balancing him.

historically he was a champion who was as trash at plat and upwards as hes now, while being really strong in bronze and silver.

like winrates around 55% with decent pickrates in low divisions while he had the same win and pickrate as now in higher divisions.

sure, now hes bad in all divisions from bronze to diamond. but that can now actually be fixed by buffing him if theyd finally get around to it. its not the case anymore that he cant be buffed for higher divisions while hed be massively op in low divisions.

even if the juggernaut rework didnt accomplish much for him, it was at least something positive.

they just have to actually buff him now, and not ignore him for almost an entire season...

Positive? They gutted Garen's strengths's to give him for a Quasi-RNG ultimate. The Villian mechanic takes so much of his budget that they can't buff him at all. They have to remove the Villian mechanic to focus back on what made him good while changing his kit in a way to be better. His passive, part of his Q, and W needs changes to accommodate something more than just Q>E>W>Bush>Repeat.

i dont know if it was the villain mechanic. but in a sense he was in a worse position before the rework than now.

because now, there is nothing left to justify that he shouldnt get buffed when weak in high divisions.

before the rework, the common excuse was, that if he was buffed to be good at plat and diamond, he would be insane in bronze and silver. but since his rework, the difference in winrate between low and high divisions has never been more than 2%.

there is really nothing to stop them from buffing him until hes decent in plat and diamond anymore.

Tbh, the true damage makes his ult a lot more reliable in execution. You barely ever have that 'fuck, I ulted too early' moment.

Except in lane phase, where your lane opponent is never the villain.

Also, if the wrong character is the villain.

Also, his ult has a REALLY long wind-up animation, which makes it easy to react to.

Don't forget, he also gained some base AD, reduced E cooldown, and really nice E base damage at Rank 1 (so you can choose to max Q).

However, given the current state of the game, if Pre-Rework Garen was available in Champion Select, I'd pick him over Post-Rework Garen in almost every game (Plat+).

New Garen is SO SLOW, his and his early game is SO WEAK, that it's incredibly easy to punish him.

the fact that hed actually be really simple to buff for month, with a couple of very simple number buffs without giving him a larger rework, and theyre simply not doing it is really irritating and frustrating.

im just sitting here waiting, that my champion is finally playable in ranked games again.
