Did I make the correct decision?

Hello. I'm Silver. I don't play very often. Each season I typically play the 10 games to get my rank, and then never play Ranked again. But this Season, I see significant improvements from when I first started League (I've always played casually off and on) - and I feel like I could potentially get Gold this Season, if I play a little Ranked every day.

The reason why I'm making this thread is because even though I think I've learned more/improved - I still need to know what I'm doing wrong, and want to learn from my mistakes.

So I'm curious to know if I made the correct decision in this situation:

Scenario:

  • Enemy Kai'sa and Lux were at our Bot tower.
  • My ADC and I were running from base back to our T1 bot tower. (Distance wise: he was at base, while I was a Gromp)
  • I'm Sona. I had T1 boots and used E to try and get there a smidgen bit quicker.
  • My ult was down from the previous gank.
  • I was fully aware that Lux had her ult up.
  • We had no minions on our side. It was essentially a 2v1 with a handful of enemy minions
  • I threw out a Q and a Power Chord on Kai'sa, but essentially backed off when the tower was less than 100 HP and started running toward Draven and our T2 bot tower.

Then I get PING PING PING PING on top of my head: "What the hell Sona, you basically just gave them our bot tower?>?!????!?!?!?1111"

Ok, I left because I knew that Lux had her ult up, and if I didn't dodge her Q in time, I was probably going to be dead. So I my options were to give them the tower, or give them the tower and a kill. I think I made the smart decision to back away, especially since my ult was down.

But maybe not? Maybe there was something I could have done? If so, what would that be so I don't make the same mistake next time? Thanks in advance

Backing out was a smart decision. Even if you stayed behind to defend the tower, Sona lacks waveclear so you cant really stop the minions. If there were minions coming soon, then just maybe you could have soaked up some minion damage to freeze them just infront of your tower for a bit. Otherwise, yea your tower was dead. If you stayed they would have just got more gold from killing you.

u made the right choice. at 100 tower hp. i dont even think noxious suggestion would have helped.. that tower was gone.. if there was a race for first tower it might have been worth staying to try to keep it alive for like 5 more second to allow your team to get first tower.

but if there was no race going on.. there was no reason to stay with a tower that low, 2 adc auto's would have brought that thing down if they got a single minion near it.
