Malzahar's ult range should be limited to its cast range (maybe plus a little)

I don't know if this is intentional or not, but the range at which his ult will stay tethered to you is rather enormous. i can see having it able to go a little ways outside the cast range, but its tether range is pretty over the top. couldnt find any images or videos of the max range, but im sure im not the only one that's noticed this.

actually, you dont see what im referring to. im not talking about being able to move, im talking about how in instances where you flash at the same time he ults or when you ult as olaf his ult will stay tethered to you for quite a distance. not talking about the moving while suppressed bug at all.

im not talking about being able to move briefly before the ult being a problem, im talking about the ult tether having such a huge range being a problem

I know what you are refering to but I don't think riot really has the ability to properly code that into the game. Ideally, the target that malz ults should be stopped the instant they get suppressed. However, due to the way riot programs stuns and suppresses, they always have a lot of problems getting champions to properly stop moving. It isn't just Malz's ult, there are a lot of ults where champions get an extra half second to move even when they should be stunned or suppressed. Malz's ult is just better at pointing out when a target has moved when they shouldn't have.

No, malz is already hard countered by qss nerfing him farther is just unreasonable.

I Main Swain1 votes

so theres 1 item that is either built by ad champs or just burns an items lot that counters his ult but may not even always be available to use against it? sounds like a hard nerf to me /sarcasm

besides, have you seen just how far his ult will stretch to keep you tethered? its pretty dang long, and theres really no good reason for it to be.

EcchiOtakuTM2 votes

It's tether range is fine, malz has been weaker since qss came into play nerfing his ulti by also removing it when out of range is unreasonable for a champ that's mainly for punishing someone out of positing come late game,

And a good reason again is punishing someone out of position.

I Main Swain1 votes

are you talking about the tether range or the cast range? one is fine, the other is crazy long. not saying it shouldnt be able to go out of range at all, but considering its damage over only 2 seconds that ALSO suppresses, i think it would be reasonable to reduce the range of the tether break. as for you rpoint about pushing someone out of position, his ult doesnt need to do that, nor is it meant to. it's meant to A) do lots of damage and B) immobilize someone. 99% of the time the suppress isnt removed anyways.

His ulti is for out of position enemies and that's why it's used most of the time. If the mage/adc is in the frontline when their team is retreated you use it to catch them.

If someone is trying to flank you it's used to take out the weaker side.

If the tether range is reduced when malz ultis someone who blink/dashes they will not take any damage from malz's ulti, his cc won't affect them so his teammates can't catch them and malz ulti will go on cd making it a wasted investment.

and olaf/gp/QSS/disengage supports will be even harder malz counters

Then if an ally uses displacement CC malz will be useless.

so what if it would be a wasted investment? that can happen all the time. amumu ults right as the flash out of range, nautilus ults right as they b out, etc.

a champ having hard counters is not really an issue, and it really wouldnt make disengage supports any stronger.

they call that counterplay. thats the same case with MANY other champs

I agree but for different reasons. Malz' ult does not immediately suppress you, it says that it does but the animation leaves a good enough time that someone is capable of casting a single spell before being ulted. As you say, you are capable of flashing before being suppressed, this is not Malz ult going beyond its range though, this is you abusing his broken animations to flash when you should not have been able to. This also works with CC abilities, some one like Cho'gath or Lulu with easy to land hard CC can stop Malz's ult after being suppressed even if they cast it after you cast his ult. I have been knocked backwards by a Jayce who hit me with his E from my max ult range after he was suppressed. When Talon had his Silence you could E to malz right when he ulted and cancel his ult then kill him. So while you think the range should be limited i think you should not be able to use abilities after he ults you.

i thought of the glitch possibility, but ive seen it numerous times as/with olaf as well. also, their cc abilities can still go off because a lot of the cc abilities in the game have a delay of some sort when they are cast (like malzahars ult) and personally i see it as a form of counterplay. if malzahars ult DIDNT have that, then the only way for an individual to do anything with malzahar is to play olaf, a mega mega tank, or build qss (which is an ad item so for most mid laners it burns a precious slot)

I think its fine for CC cast BEFORE he casts the ult to cancel it, but once he hits suppress you should be suppressed immediately. The ability has a lot of strengths specially since it is point and click, but it also have a lot of weaknesses. The whole point is that your teammates are suppose to save you or that you should know he has his ult and to either focus him or not be near him. His ult is his power, without it he is not much to fear (unless fed). It costs a lot of mana and has a decently large cool down, for it to be cancelled due to a bug i feel is a bit unfair. Malzahars Ult has plenty of counterplay to it already, it doesn't really need a glitch as well.

that IS how it works, its just some animations, like chogath's q, are really long. it counts abilities from the start of cast, they arent like aa's where they have a point where theyll hit no matter what but otherwise getting out of range will cancel it.

Stephenizgod1 votes

No that isnt how it works, you were complaining about how flashing will extend the tether, that is you flashing while you are suppressed. Flashing before he ults means he doesn't ult in the first place, therefore the tether doesn't extend.

If you AA someone who flashes out of AA range, the AA still connects, even if you're a melee. That's just how the game works, and it's how his ultimate works, too. As long as you're in range when his casting animation goes off, it will land the ultimate.

I Main Swain1 votes

my point isnt that it still connects, my point is that his ult tether range is huge. if im playing olaf and i ult through a malz ult, i still have to get pretty far away before his ult tether breaks. also, theyre different anyways. one is a single instance of attack that leaves the first champ to attack the second. the other is a channel that requires a certain range to be met.

Oh, then I misunderstood, sorry. I thought you meant how wonky hit detection is pertaining to Flash, because you can get a 15 foot long tether from that, too.
