Tier 3 Runes 1 IP

Ýisus··86 votes·3,750 views

With the new change to Runes upcoming during Pre-Season. Riot should consider making T3 runes cost 1 LP in the store. Player's are now in an odd situation. If they want to be competitive - they must purchase T3 runes - yet... It feels like a total waste to buy Runes that will be worthless in just a few months.

Riot - Please change the cost of T3 Runes to 1 LP so players can buy Runes without feeling they are wasting many many hours worth of farming.

Not gonna lie, 1 win for 20 runes is so worth

Saianna1 votes

And if you lose, you can pay LP with runes :P

I don't think that's a good idea, the compensation wouldn't be fair no? someone who spent 100k ip ok on runes would be getting the same compensation as someone who spent 200 ip to get all the runes

Project Xayah1 votes

This isn't being suggested as the only compensation we get, but rather something that logically should happen considering that runes will become free in the pre-season. It just doesn't make sense that people have to pay full price for runes now that we know there'll be no cost for them by the end of the year. It has essentially become a choice between saving the IP or staying/being competitive.

yeah but I mean riot will most likely look at what runes you have and compensate you that way, they won't compensate you based on how much IP you spent on runes so in that sense it could be unfair

Project Xayah1 votes

I don't imagine it would be too difficult for Riot to make some kind of "record" of which accounts have what runes before making the change in cost, thus providing a way for them to give each account the appropriate compensation (assuming, of course, that's how they're determining what each account will receive).

TheRealBaz2 votes

they could give people icons based on their runes during one patch and then make runes cost 1ip the next. that way they can hand out rewards to those with the icons

Fondling Gems6 votes

The issue is that they still don't know exactly how they are going to reward players, so they would have to figure out exactly what they are going to reward players for before handing out icons. Amount of IP spent? Number of Runes owned? Different rewards based on rune types? Number of pages?

There are a lot of things they they could end up taking into account, and they can't give out icons before knowing how they want to rewards players.

That being said the data is all stored in their database so they could definitely make a copy of everyone's runes/pages before dropping the price. They are also required to keep player transaction history, so they should have that info anyways.

AMYS GRAVE2 votes

They can take a snapshot of the runes people have now, and do the compensation based on that. Then make runes 1IP and it won't affect the compensation.

AirKingNeo1 votes

They gives rewards based on IP spent, not # of runes bought.

That fixes it.

... Just buy the T2 ones, they are not even that much worse. I guarantee the small differences won't be game changers.

T2 is only a small selection of runes.

Notably, you can't get any scaling runes.

Ýisus6 votes

You would be surprised how much T3 help. As an example ... i have 2 accounts ... 1 with T3 (win ratio on Veigar is 58% this season ) ... other is T2 (win ratio on Veigar is 42% this season ).

Amasa Delano4 votes

I mean, the placebo effect is a thing. I'd be interested to run the same experiment where someone was told that both accounts had the same runes, or had the runes reversed.

a double blind test hmm. hard to do though with 9 other factors

Trust me, T3 runes help a LOT. You can tell the difference between T2 and T3 runes in-game.

For me it's the other way around: would trade IP for LP. ;)

LeagueOfJhin2 votes

Totally agree I don't wanna buy new runes at all because it feels like such a waste but my performance will significantly drop if I don't have t3 runes for new champions I buy

ProtestantCaesar2 votes

I guess if they did this I'd try out that full crit damage page I've been thinking about. On XinZhao .

RogueWill1 votes

it woudl be a waste. The third hit crit passive gives him a weird 33% critc chance that doesn't scale with the other. A full AS page could work you wonders on Xin thou, specially if you go warrior instead of devoure

Ýisus1 votes

If you are looking for an interesting Xin build ... go full AS (41%) ... then build (in order) - blue jg item ( dont finish ) ... BORK ... Trinity Force ... Ninja Tabis ... Cinder Hulk ... Spirit Visage .... Frozen Mallet ... Sell boots for Dead mans.

Gives you nearly 2.0 Attack speed and 5512 HP. Sometimes I replace the Bork with Rageblade ... and Trinity Force with Titanic Reaver. Roughly 5712hp.

ProtestantCaesar1 votes

No, it's not the same as 33% crit chance. It's a 100% chance to crit on every third attack. The guaranteed crit does 25%-85% bonus damage based on W rank. But with that rune page, the crit damage would be 70%-130% AD based on W rank. And with IE, maybe the only crit item I would build, I'd guarantee every three auto attacks that I'd get a crit for 280% AD. Plus, I'd have a chance, thanks to IE, that any other attack could be a regular crit for 295% AD.

runes cost 1 LP lol

Elikain2 votes

If Riot makes all these runes essentially free, they will probably figure out a way to compensate players for having more runes than they should and also people who have invested a lot of IP into them (maybe just partially). If you now get free T3 runes, you also find yourself in that same percentage of people who were going to get compensated and you haven't invested anything in runes at this point.

You see the problem?

doiminat0r36002 votes

They're probably compensating for the amount of runes, not how much IP we spent on them. No doubt itd be worse if they made every T3 rune 1 IP because then, everyone would be getting compensated for 100IP worth of runes rather than the ones that actually spent the hundreds of thousands of IP on every rune.

If they want to, they probably can. But it probably wasn't in the books so it won't happen.

Bladerunner77772 votes

If people are getting compensated for wasting all of their money on runes

then why would people who spent about 200 ip for every single rune be rewarded? (if they cost 1 ip each)

Oriyoki1 votes

LP some new currency?

PaladinNO1 votes

Nah, League Points is what this game has used as a measure for ranking within a division since day 1.

Oriyoki1 votes

But you can't buy runes with that currency. Runes are still bought by IP.

PS: Isn't it a new currency though? Because League points would be measurement for ranking, not buying stuff.

PaladinNO1 votes

That's what I just said.

IP = Influence Points = Used to buy runes/champions. LP = League Points = Rank measurement within divisions.

RP = Riot Points = What Tencent wants us to buy for no real reason other than to waste money on stuff we don't even own.

P.s. It was a joke based on OPs misspelling...

On a serious note, in my case, it is like this: IP spent on runes: 153799 IP Ranking: Platinum 3, 11 LP

Orangesilk1 votes

No, it'd ruin the whole "Those of you who've already spent a lot on your runes will be rewarded for it".

The best you can do is suck it up, buy the runes and hope the compensation will be worth it, like the rest of us.

58697132DEL11 votes

Yeah i made posts like this last pre-season when they confirmed they would look at runes for next year cause like, why blow thousands of i on confirmed useless things. Downside is they confirmed compensation for runes (but not what) so it's unlikely they would reduce prices as that might throw off what they are planning as a reward.

Would be nice tho i'd appreciate picking up shit like gold and EXP runes and trying the with champs like TF and Zilean before these new ones hit. Which reminds me I hope those guys look at those niche runes no one was buying and make something cool from them.

staticX261 votes

expect a refund, but don't beg.

PaladinNO5 votes

After having spent over 151.000 IP on runes (and I know that's not very much compared to some), as well as RP on runepages, I claim the right to beg, whine, bitch and complain up to and including being toxic if the refund is not acceptable or of offensively low nature.

staticX261 votes

RP is a different story. I also spent RP on rune pages and I personally hope to get a cool limited skin. Real money is spent, enough said.

What do you propose to receive as a reward for your IP? I myself spent well over 100k IP on runes, but can't really tell what I'd like to get if riot's planning to compensate the IP. Full IP refund doesn't sound exiting.

PaladinNO1 votes

Well, I'm still waiting for a response to whether this is authenthic or not: https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/4pjkl4/riot_rune_survey/

Though, following the math, after having spent over 150.000, I think 7 Cosmetic crafting chests wouldn't be too much to ask for.

I also wonder how limited runes will be treated (such as the Razer one). http://gameinfo.eune.leagueoflegends.com/en/game-info/summoners/runes/ Check "Quintessences", and go down to the bottom of the screen to see most of them.

I don't own any such myself (signed up too late), but for those who does, they would hold collectors value, which should be recognized just the same as old limited skins turned legacy. Though no more than an icon for those few, I think.

staticX261 votes

You know, I was thinking more towards limited/legacy Ryze skin. Even though he has like 10 skins already, there is no more suitable champion for this event. OR Riot could open the vault and release young Ryze (former Human Ryze) skin. I haven't seen this skin in game since season 1! I still have active friends who own black Alistar (legit one, obtained not through open account), but non with young ryze. So there are not so many active OG's who might complain about releasing the skin, imo. Reddit idea seems very interesting, but for me 7 cosmetic chests sound like 2 permanent skins + a Volibear skin with just a chroma. I spent so many IPs on T3 runes/pages in seasons 1&2 and it used to be extremely hard to grind them down back then. I simple wouldn't be satisfied with just 2 random permanent skins and a cool chroma. Runelord Volid chroma doesn't commemorate vast history of runes, imo.
Yeah, icons should be fine for those Quints. For me they don't carry much value though.

PaladinNO1 votes

Just replying real quick regarding the Volibear skin + Chroma: Don't mistake Runelord Volibear for Rune_guard_ Volibear (975 RP). http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Volibear/Skins Don't worry, I had to check too.

Unless there's a spelling error going on, Runelord Volibear is something no one has ever seen before.

But I agree on one thing: Volibear doesn't mean much towards the history of runes (also, just because the Volibear skin isn't previously released, doesn't mean it's any good - a conspiracy theory can be made on just laziness from Tencent on that one).

If not Ryze (not only because I don't like him - nor Volibear anymore for that matter (RIP ARAM)) - though he would make an obvious choice regarding all his references to runes/tattoos - then some other of the original 20 champions as sort of a sentimental commemoration. http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Bundles

staticX261 votes

Oh, I see. So it's a new Volibear skin. Well, 2 random skins + special Volibear skin (similar to Captain Ganplank back in Bildgwater event), limited chroma and an icon... Still sounds soft. Ok, if they don't want to produce or release limited skins, riot should make many obtainable skins dedicated to the new rune system. In this case, I want to chose or purchase skin I want.

My personal dignity is worth little when there are digital goods on the line.

Vallalan1 votes

i dont see them doing that as they are going to compensate you accordingly based on how much IP you've spent on runes anyway.

so go ahead and spend the IP anyway. don't feel bad buying them now. besides the only ones you need are the core ones that they made super duper cheap anyway. these are:

flat armor yellows flat MR blues ap quints flat ad reds flat ad quints

for an adc page you can save up for attack speed quints or just get the tier 2 ones which gives you like 3% less attack speed overall.

you don't need anything beyond that. i wouldn't worry too much about making a custom page since if you are new enough to not have the runes in the first place you won't be abusing the rune pages as much.

a lot of new players think runes are huge and they really aren't. they've been optimized for years now and people rarely deviate with the exception of like people who run MS quints on tf/rzye and cdr on shit like riven or full lethality on jhin. everyone runs the same shit and can get away with it even on those aforementioned champs.
