The key is..... it takes a while for True damage to become a problem. Early game,
is ineffective. If you let a game go too long... and they build crit..... yeah. It's gonna hurt. But tbh, it doesn't hurt any more than a lethality build, which for all intents and purposes can almost ELIMINATE ALL Armor. In other words, Lethality builds are still more dangerous.
That being said..... early game.... Armor is pivotal to depriving some champs from GETTING that true damage going. And, some teams like games with champs like
or
..... generally don't build much armor pen or do much true damage. So armor is ultra effective there..... especially vs most Nasus builds. (And other single target auto attackers.... they generally build sheen builds rather than lethality/armor pen builds)
I will also say this: If you have a feeding team, and you're playing
, you REALLY REALLY want that Armor/Resist.
I just had a
int feed a
, while top lost to
who got like 489 Stacks out of lane and was near 700 stacks by game end.
I had no choice on Pyke by to go defensive and build something like
....... just to stay alive.....
As some point in the game we managed to kill 2 of the opposing team and Nasus was split pushing....
So I just began a soaking Nasus damage cycle with him. He'd blow his kit on me, get in 1-2 auto attacks, and I would Q/E him around the map. That allowed my team about a 5 minute period in which to push the other team into a something like 9 kill chain of pushing the opponent's base while Nasus couldn't recall. If he has built a
he probably could have almost 1 shot me....... but he was Nasus so he went thornmail.
So yeah. Armor isn't a catch all stat. It can still be impactful, and if you ban the right champs, True damage is less of a threat. Ban around who can use True damage the most effectively, and then you can build armor.
Resist is ALWAYs good. Not many AP champs do true damage.
