Huge Problem with Sona changes on the PBE
Sona, being my favorite support, is probably one of the more boring supports to play. However the changes on the PBE are huge and will definitely make her more fun to play with your job being mashing your buttons and spam your spells. For those who don't know the changes here are some rough context:
General: Aura radius larger, aura no longer gets increased duration when an ally steps in
Q: Cooldown up, less damage on activate, more damage on aura
W: base heal and base shield up, removed heal getting a boost based on target's missing HP
E: cooldown down (I believe), mana cost down, aura speed up buffed, activate is now Sona gains 25/50/75/100/125 attack range from a self speed up (Sona still benefits from her own aura speed up)
R: Passive changed from buffing up her abilities to gains 20%/30%/40% base CDR on her Q/W/E (Base CDR applies before other CDR, 10 second cooldown abilities would be lowered to 6 seconds at max rank and then with 40% CDR down to 3.6, not down to 2.)
So, what's my problem that I have a huge concern with? Her E and her W, specifically how they scale with rank. Considering Sona will probably max Q first for laning and maximum damage output, that leaves her W and E to max second. However she buys Grail after her Eye of the Watchers and (next patch) most likely an Ardent Censor or Mikael's Crucible, which will have 15% increase to healing next patch.
So because of such percent buffs, she maxes heal second. However now her E, who has really good scaling with rank, is now really terrible early-mid game. I love the range change, as it allows Sona's powerchords to be more useful and safe to use, especially her E's powerchord. However the base range on it is really terrible and really makes it very useless early-mid game. A change like 50/65/80/95/110 scaling would be much better.
TLDR: Sona's E change is great to make her E feel much more useful however as a 1 point wonder ability requiring points into it doesn't make much sense and makes the ability mostly useless in the early to mid game.
