How abt the ages of stacking Heart of Gold? :P

While I agree Hextech Revolver stacks were "anti-fun," HoG stacking was BestStratNA

Potato Doc1 votes

Im pretty sure stacking Hog Philo stone and on the certain champs that would allow it avarice blade was teh best strat NA, especially as GP, farm for 25 mins, then have a full build XD

ProfDrDeath3 votes

When it still had Armor and HP, too!

Vauren4 votes

I miss my heart of gold :*( It was a favorite item of mine to rush on Volibear.

Sukishoo6 votes

a much greater missing item... ah never forget you Heart Of Gold.

ProfDrDeath6 votes

It was a strong and unhealthy for the game...and yet, such a good feeling to build. All the green numbers.

Agidyne14 votes

unhealthy?

Why?

Because it countered Magic Damage?

Assassins keep getting nerfed because they beat Mages, Zhonyas is still intact, there isn't nearly as much MR options as there are Armor options, Ability Power items give a lot more CDR than Attack Damage items.

A Slime Appears9 votes

It countered magic damage in a much less stupid way than zhonyas counters attack damage. So it had to be removed, obviously.

Sammystorm7 votes

this statement is silly on a bunch of levels.

AP items give more cd because if you are a ap champion you need your spells to do anything so the less time they are on rotation the more damage you can do.

The only reason their is not very many mr options is because their is fewer threats from a ap champ. Once their skills go on cooldown they just sit around looking cool. AD has 2 potential threats both auto's and spells (yes I know a few ap champs have good autos but not many) which makes it much harder to itemize because you have to potentially counter both threats

Zhonya's exists for ap champions that would normally not be able to be playable because of how good ad champs can be but is abusable by a few champs (fizz, lb, etc). If you removed zhonya's you would still see the problem champions but a lot less of the ones that weren't problems to begin with.

and finally FoN was unhealthy because as a single item it made it so that ap champions could not touch you. Although this was partially a problem of season 2 pen calculations. It also was a bazaar item. It gave a lot of wasted stats and was not 100% efficient on anyone not named mundo. It was better to break it up into multiple items with different stats so that people could actually buy efficent items and it also allowed people to buy different mr items. When FoN existed and a ap was a problem everyone bout it everytime. Now you at least have a couple of options.

ReVeLReBeL1 votes

It was insanely good on Poppy.

Karasu Kuro2 votes

It was the best item a Singed could get!

Enraged Piglet1 votes

wow that would be good on poppy. She jsut buys it then she can ult a mage and do whatever she wants. Also poppy already does good in most lane matchups that are ad with few exceptions and most her bad matchups are ap champions usually ones with damage over time or a lot of poke like Rumble and akali (her Q's do a lot against poppy and poppy can't get clsoe because poppy can't trade akali while Q proc is on her.) The items built in lane for poppy would probably help against her bad matchups a lot.

Pinker 102 votes

unhealthy?

Why?

Because DrMundo

3 mogs and a visage with FoN was 168 hp/5. At full health. 270 with ult at 20% hp. 400 with ult and baron.

Totally healthy gameplay.

Any other reason riot gives is bs, it was removed because DrMundo was god.

Kosm1K2 votes

But what about Warmongs now? If you combine that with Garen , you get ridiculous regen with it. I played a game earlier where i got my hp regen to 600hp/5 without even trying.

Enraged Piglet1 votes

he loses a lot of that regain during fights because his passive goes down. Whereas Fon kept going so someone like mundo with tons of health armor and mr would regain like 2k hp or more during a fight. Though think of how op Sion would be with this item and some old warmogs.

JustMyBassCannon3 votes

unhealthy?

Why?

Because it countered Magic Damage?

Partly that.

More accurately, the issue with Force of Nature was that it granted enough MR to make the burst of any mage--even one bearing Void Staff--very weak. On top of that, it granted a lot of health regen. On a champ with about 2300 HP, FoN's regen was worth about 3.5% of your max HP per 5 seconds (more than triple Warmog's current regen).

It didn't just counter magic damage. It countered the very idea of burst damage. Liandry's Torment didn't exist, so the only mage with enough innate damage to counteract Force of Nature was Brand. With a Void Staff. And even he had difficulty with it.

When you can pick up an item that costs less than 3k that triples your MR, gives you enough health regen to have it show up as healing ticks, and it's under cost-efficiency despite these strengths, you have a problem. A problem called, "Mages do jack shit to anyone carrying Force of Nature." Your burst is significantly lower, and they're healing ridiculously fast.

unhealthy?

Why?

Because it countered Magic Damage?

It completely negated pretty much every magic-damage threat in 1 major item, where you tended to need multiple armor items to offer the same effective protection.

Average burst rotation on anyone that scales with AP needs ~450 AP to deal double their base values on QWE, and ~750 to double R damage.

On top of level 18 base MR for most melee champions (52.5), you need ~150 MR to double your effective health vs. magic damage.

~150 MR counters ~450 AP, 1 MR counters 3 AP.

FoN's 77 effectively negated 231 AP, which is pretty much the entire item 3089 item 3174 combo, and FoN offered enough mobility and HP/5 to counter whatever benefits the CDR amp would give there.

Moderately problematic when you consider the average game only lasts 33 minutes and sees 11,000 gold per player (3 major items). Also problematic when you consider HP scales extremely well with MR.

Obviously counter-building has it's places, but with FoN it was a 1-stop-shop item to completely shut down a mage's kill potential until the game went to hyper-carries.

Not that problematic with actual tanks, incredibly problematic with tanky DPS fighters like Mundo, Udyr, Volibear, and especially Olaf. FoN resulted in a lot of very hard-counter situations. And not Zhonya's you can bait someone out in a bad spot situations, just 24/7 protection that's very strong against both burst and poke, which are usually the only 2 tactics available to mages.

Rebonack5 votes

Riot removed Force of Nature because 'We want to break this item up so there can be more mobility options'.

Rangers and Mages got more mobility options.

Tanks got nothing.

Also? Banshee's gives more effective health vs magic damage than Force of Nature did. Just sayin'.

Agidyne3 votes

But Force of Nature was fucking awesome when used on the likes of Singed

Gaminon5 votes

"Massive regen, MR, and movespeed? Who needs those stats?"

~Riot, before playing any tank ever

Earl Eulrich3 votes

Yea, it´s pretty evident that noone at riot seems to care about tanks...whenever they´re somewhat viable they get removed again - while their counterpart (carries) just are allowed to dominate as they please. I soo would love to see them try imagine a LoL where you don´t have to necessarily pick a goddamn ADC into your setup. I really miss S2, best season (especially for tanks) by far.

mundo is secretly ammumu. After the nerfs he cryed and lost 1500 pds in water weight and shrank to a dry little anorexic mummy. Now he can't go into the enemy base as he pleases and lost all his friends he used to make in the enemy fountain. So now all Mundo can do is cry ;(

To be honest the only toxic thing about the old FoN was that it had movement speed, the rest of the item was fine. This is coming from a Season 2 Mundo main who LOVED FoN, Combine it with the old Visage, Randuins, Warmogs and sunfire cape (or atmas) and you're a unstoppable force.

One thing that was a bit troublesome about FoN was that it wasn't that good by itself but with other items (health) it was pretty darn good maybe a bit too good

xvshanevx2 votes

Wasn't playing during this era, but I looked up the stats:

+40 health regeneration +76 magic resistance +8% movement speed +Unique: You gain health regeneration equal to 1.75% of your maximum health.

Gawd I would love to see this item in the game. Would be lethal on someone like Braum or DrMundo

It is like everyone here forgot the terror that was Mordekaiser during S2. Warmogs, FoN, abyssal cepter, Thornmail, Rylai crystal cepter, and holy fuck hold on to your god damn seats.

not only a item problem, Morde simply was broken in S1/2

Master of League1 votes

Mordekaiser Is forever lost in viability because of you leaving. Please, come back!

Enraged Piglet1 votes

FON was the reason champions like leblanc were bad. Because it was tank meta and everyone build this plus warmogs. Now after nerfs to warmogs and aegis champions like leblance became strong.

RIP Force of Nature

you will forever be in my Heart of Gold

i shall Fortify a picture of you in my Innervating Locket

i hope an Eleisa's Miracle will cause riot to stop sicking the Leviathan on the precious items we hold so dear

i guess all we can do is try to hide them under a Cloak and Dagger and fight them off with the Madred's Bloodrazor while we hope the Malady doesn't reach them

Mundo is always going to regain hp during a fight, that's who he is, his ult keeps him at full hp if he's sufficiently farmed/fed. With Garen all you really need is warmongs and spirit visage and you don't need to return to fountain to heal. Old Sion would be pretty op with Fon and old warmongs, but now, without his hp stacking passive, it'd just be another viable build on him. MR items are limited to only two choices, spirit visage or banshee's veil, and there really should be more of a choice/items with more mr. It's easy to stack up to 300 armor, but basically impossible to do so with MR.
