Balance "issues" wouldn't be nearly as bad if riot just had someone on here talking...

I check the forums daily, well maybe less so recently since i don't play that often anymore due to the current state of the game not being my cup-o-tea. That aside. And every day there's half a dozen posts about champ X has 7000% win rates and champ Z killed my whole team with just boots! and I get that a lot of this is just tilt and salt and such, heck I holler at the boards after a few lost promos... but there's a lot of moderate discussions about champion balance, and ideas about where to take stuff in the game and questions like, "why doesn't riot ______"

is it so hard to just get a balance team member to pop on the boards every now and again and say, "well guys there's only one of us and he is in his split personality where he loves to bake bread and tend to his flowers. Just be patient" ?

Lack of talk makes me feel like there's a lack of confidence in the product or unwillingness to discuss a "perfect system" of which there is none.

Now, I will say, riot peeps do get on the boards ALL THE TIME! the help section, story, and meme parts of the boards get lots of riot attention but they are secondary parts of the game as a whole, when compared to the balance in the game itself. (well maybe not the memes i guess some of ya'll are meme crazy haha)

I'm positive i don't have the full picture but people like to be in on stuff and it makes sense, to me, to have someone drop tidbits of info that i dont have to gleam off of 3rd party websites that post pictures of upcoming patch-notes... I don't want a 4 hour per day webcam chat with Meddler or anything, just a line or two here and there.

Except riot communicates here about balance more than any other gaming company excluding dota2's valve?

CancerBasedGod1 votes

Now that's just simply not true... But I bet you checked every other gaming companies boards too know who communicates the most?

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Yes, blizzard makes one change a year to Starcraft/HS and never listens to the player base.

CancerBasedGod1 votes

Oh, and I guess that covers all 3 game companies... Oh wait, there are thousands of game companies with boards you haven't looked at...

(BTW, the small indie games tend to listen to their boards the most.)

Except it is the developer of the most played MMOs, online card games, FPSes and RTSes?

CancerBasedGod1 votes

How the hell do you think that is a response to my post?

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Because other companies aren't as successful perhaps?

CancerBasedGod1 votes

And what the fuck could that possibly have to do with my original post!??

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Because small gaming companies have a smaller community with generally less whiny people so it's a lot easier to communicate?

CancerBasedGod1 votes

And so? Also who the fuck says they're less whiny? And again, also, smaller games still sell in the millions.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Hello? Brains? Smaller community literally means easier time to communicate because there are less people, common sense?

CancerBasedGod1 votes

And smaller companies have less people to do said communicating. Common sense. Anyway I'm done trying to talk to you. This doesn't even have any relevance to my original response...

of all the companies i have been Riot is one of the best and Blizzard is literally the absolute worst in terms of communicating to their playerbase. Every single company i have been to, the developers only listen to what the community when the game is just starting and as soon as they get a decent enough playerbase they get complacent and just start doing things on their own. Some good, most terrible.

Riot cannot have someone here just responding to the exact same old type of thread over and over saying the exact same thing over and over, specially if that person has zero idea of what is going on there. They rather just make a single post explaining things if they see the need to address certain issues that have been going on for a while and even when they do that you still get the exact same threads still popping up all over the place.

There is also a huge difference between some random indie game and a game that is meant to be played by thousands if not millions of people at the same time. The amount of input each type of developer has to deal with is incredibly different. A few dozens or hundreds does not compare to the possible thousands that some other companies can get. The infrastructure of each company is also very different so how they handle the player's input can be greatly varied

Lol, I love how in your mind indie games get 100-1000 players... Plenty hit millions.

lol love how you think that indie games that hit that many were actually from indie developers

Oh no, it's a big conspiracy, those indie games are really made by EA, but they put them out through shell corporations and don't advertise, so they can make less money. [zombie-brand-facepalm]

QQ more plox. When an indie game comes that is a MOBA you can come here and talk again

CancerBasedGod1 votes

Did I say there were indie MOBAS?

Did I say there were indie MOBAS?

what's that? who is talking? oh right! some random person that thinks that a single pplayer focused game indie developed game actually falls in the same category of a MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER FOCUSED ONE.

When your dear little indie games become mobas, MMORGS you can come here and talk about them ok? there are great indie games out there. I don't care about 90% of them.

CancerBasedGod1 votes

And what the fuck does this have to do with my original post? I don't give a shit if you're a cool kid who only plays mobas. Who is talking? oh right, a fucking wall. Well I'm not talking to a fucking wall, so G'night!

To be fair, fan-company communication got us the Azmodunk skin in HotS.

I think that redeems humanity a bit.

well HotS needs all the help it can get if it wants to stay even remotely relevant in the MOBA world so... if they weren't listening to their fans to some degree i would be extremely worried about that game

It's still relevant. It's not as big, but it's got a dedicated following.

Boards is a terrible place to get feedback about balance. You would be better of just asking random challenger players.

Riot puts out patches every 2 weeks, give or take. With that kind of frequency and consistency, I'd say they are communicating pretty well on how they feel about the state of the game. As far as popping in on the boards to say "yes, this is something we are fixing, please stop yelling at us", while you may appreciate it, for each person like you who wants to see that there will be 2 others complaining that Rioters are spending all their time posting on the boards and on reddit (that's still a thing right? I've never actually been on there) instead of fixing the problem and why isn't it done yet and how come Riot never fixes anything and the balance team is so terrible and Riot is the worst company ever and if Riot is reading this how come they haven't fixed it already and how come its not fixed yet dammit.

I don't personally spend much time on the boards for reasons, but I honestly don't expect or mind that there isn't a red post on every balance discussion. For one thing, there are way too many of them. For another, most are just whining, and a lot of the rest are duplicates. And lastly, as long as Riot is addressing the problem in a timely manner, as is usually the case in the bi-monthly patching cycle, I don't mind not getting a heads up. Its the lingering issues, the ones that take more than just a tweak or adjustment to fix that I would like to be kept informed of. The kinds of things that take more time and work to fix well, work we can't see.

My two cents.
