Veigar had a reliable AOE stun that's always up and can follow up with massive burst.

IDK why people are acting like Annie's stun is so much more conditional than Veigar's. Once she has it she gets to hold onto it until she finds a target she wants or she can sit on 3 stacks then just combo two spells to stun. Honestly after lv3 its up more often than Veigar's 20 second cd stun.

AbrahamBaconham4 votes

Nobody is acting like that. People want her stun nerfed too, or at least Tibbers. There was a whole thread about it on Friday. It was massively uploaded, and there was plenty of discussion "compensation buffs"

Who cares what this community wants. They tend to be wrong.

Anidan8 votes

Some of the community can't even decide if a champion is actually OP, or simply strong. One needs nerfed, the other is... freaking strong.

I'm at the point that, for the most part, I don't care what the community says about balance. The Veigar outcry was huge. It had justification.

Then there's the constant outpouring of complaints toward Lee Sin. That outpour continues to this day. They can't even decide what needs nerfed exactly, if anything even does need nerfed. So there's that.

And no, I'm not saying Riot is always right about balance over the community, God can attest to that being a falsehood, but sometimes the community just appears to like hearing itself talk.

I will never trust the community again after what happened with Ahri.

Anidan3 votes

I find it hard to trust the community at large given how anyone who becomes strong is called "broken" and "toxic", even if nothing about them changed in the last 12 months, and suddenly they become strong because their checks just got nerfed.

"Permanent slows, great vision control, fairly long range harass, free crits, long aa range, and one of the best initiation ults in the game!" - This is Ashe. It's easy to make someone sound broken and strong when all you list is their strengths.

"No mobility of her own, so she's susceptible to ganks; slows absolutely wreck her kiting; tenacity helps greatly against her ult; if you get in her face, she'll have difficulty escaping you if you have any sort of CC (and most people do); great teamfighting power, but a weak duelist by herself, especially if her ult is down; susceptible to burst; etc." - These are some of Ashe's weaknesses.

I HATE Kalista, and on a personal level, I'd be completely okay with her outright removal from the game. However, from a balance standpoint, her passive is what mostly stands out. Rend wouldn't be quite as egregious if she could be, y'know, hit while trying to apply it if you don't have a hard CC or burst to immediately bind her down. If her passive was toned down, she wouldn't feel quite as miserable to play against, even if she did have infinite Rend stacks. Though I do believe that no cap on Rend is a terrible idea, with or without her passive.

The point being that the community, or at least the part that tends to be much more vocal about balance, tends to only ever list a champion's strengths in which they excel, and rarely list any weaknesses while doing so. It's easy to make any hero in the entire game sound completely absurd if all you do is list strengths. That doesn't lend you any credence for your case about them being overpowered, but it does make you look extremely biased instead.

I still hate Kalista with every fiber of my being, though.

If she holds her stun she can't push worth a shit though, so you can shove her to her tower and she has to either spend her stun to not miss CS or keep it and leave you to free roam for a while. Her max range on stun is also 890 with a 290 radius as opposed to Veigar's 1075 and 375 radius.

I understand that you are upset about the Veigar nerfs, but that has nothing to do with Annie, you can't just compare the two and judge on that.

Hold at 3 stacks for her passive or just rotate her stun back up fast which isn't exactly a problem for Annie. With one of the best auto attack ranges in the game she can CS just fine. She doesn't want to push most of the time and odds are if she is against a super pusher and under her tower because of it she doesn't need the stun and can just clear the wave with her spells. Idk why you assume she MUST use her abilities to CS or that she can't just bring her stun back to ready status in seconds. Baffles me.

Her max area to stun is superior to Veigar's as he has a massive hole in the middle which is where most are going to land in a team fight bar the one he may be dropping the stun directly on. The area is a worthless argument in 1v1/1v2 scenarios and she clearly wins in team fights as shown. Her stun is also instant unlike Veigar's and her slightly lower range has been, effectively, the only recognized weakness Annie has had since beta and it isn't even significant.

If the comparisons are appropriate they sure can.

Doesn't matter how fast her rotation is, once she uses the stun, it takes 6s to charge under perfect conditions (3 Q that kill + E), if she could not get cs, that's 12s (3 Q + E), 8s if she uses a W, but then her rotation shorts a spell and have inferior DPS.

Realistically Annie could not zone people without losing tons of CS.

And AA range does not make you a good cs-er, just a safer one, idk about you, but most streamers still miss cs as adc (who has better AD), "CS just fine" w/ 50 AD is an overstatement, or you are claiming to be better than top-tier adc.

If you felt it was worth using your spell to farm the minions than odds heavily favor 6 seconds not being a make or break moment unless you got seriously out of position while unprepared for some reason. You don't even need her spells in the first place to last hit as she has one of the best auto attack ranges in the entire game. Realistically, she doesn't have to have her stun up 24/7 until she is about ready to make a move and due to her long auto range and the factor that if she is simply farming at the time or zoning without overextending her stun wouldn't be necessary in the first place, majority of the time. Throw in wards, flash, her E, blah, etc. and it really isn't an issue.

A lot of champions aren't going to have significantly better AD than Annie and you can always take AD reds on her to make this easier, which isn't uncommon for champs like Swain, and others. Swain, Anivia, and several other champs often farm only with autos to last hit and prevent from over pushing unless they are preparing to leave lane, too. Exception being to reset lane and back, etc. Jinx, for example, has 3 more AD than Annie early on prior to runes (which already stated can be ran on her as well, like some other spell casters for farm/harass purposes). Realistically, Annie can zone extremely well without losing a ton of CS and you are trying to make her out as being largely different than many other champs. You will not hard engage in that 6+ second window thus not needing the stun unless you are overextended and didn't bother to ward and flash is down, assuming mid or top. Bot she harasses just fine and is a very successful bot champ.

Lastly, it seems you did not properly read the post I replied too which talked about pushing her to her tower and her being unable to push back. If she is under her tower she doesn't need her stun, its that simple. She is free to push back with her abilities. The person quoted a completely nonsense scenario that wouldn't realistically happen against anyone but a new player, or shouldn't.

Honestly it sounds like you don't play annie very much. She loses out on 3 of her 4 abilities if she holds onto her stun. She won't be able to poke she won't be able to wave clear. All she can do if she holds onto stun is auto attack and cast e. Which can be good if you are preping for a teamfight but in every other case is not the best.

He just covered, in the post above yours, why you don't lose out on using your abilities just to hold on to the stun. She can sit on 3 and rotate pretty fast (particularly thanks to E). Her rotation is fairly fast so she can bring it back up if she needs to rotate through her stun and get back to 3+ stacks. With her long auto attack range she is very good at poking in lane which is why she is so popular bot and still strong mid and can clear just fine with her autos or the above tricks. As for the actual stun it is simply superior to Veigar's and more reliable. It is both instant and doesn't have a massive gaping whole causing it to miss most champs in a team fight bar the one you intentionally aim for. Now, Veigar doesn't even have an E.

Sammystorm1 votes

Well you are correct in your points if it is laning phase. However once you transition into team fights the short transition time between stuns can be the difference between a won or lost team fight. However on the same note holding onto the stun when you need wave clear well they are at your turret seiging can be the difference of a tower. Viegar isn't ever punished for holding onto his stun. He can be punished for misuseing his stun but never for holding onto it.

Annie's tibbers is better period. However viegars stun was more reliable in the sense that you could use it more frequently at longer range and from a safer position with out having to commit. If you really want to go into the details viegars unreliable damage on w and only single target burst made him quite a bit weaker then annie. He wasn't really able to support because you need more then an aoe stun. However he wasn't particularly able to mid because other champions had better team fight and other champions had more mobile single target burst. Viegar was trying to fill a niche that was already filled up with better champs. Back to annie. She did not have the weaknesses of viegar because she has massive aoe damage. substantial amount more utility and as you said a long attack range.

Veigar's stun is also significantly less potent than Annie's until he has almost max CD and max level E. Even then it is only better then hers in specific situations and demands a much longer drawn out fight to see these benefits. This is where I definitely agree with the longer range and safer position of his stun, but against some champs it is also completely NULL at this range and can no longer be reliable. It also means he can't abuse it offensively at the longer ranges because his stun range completely outstrips his other abilities in terms of range even with the long stun time, showing Veig's largest weakness of his short Q/R range.

It seems like you get the general gist of what is going on and your first post and the one you replied too, originally, were just broad general statements that could have been better elaborated on.

So are we comparing her ult to his basic skill again? Why is this still happening? The fact that you can even compare his basic skill to an ultimate kinda shows how strong that old E was. He had a longer stun with higher range and if annie's ult is the problem then when they both get to late game veigar gets to throw this stun out 5 times per every one of annie's ult's.

Edit so someone wasted time to downvote bomb this post. You do know it doesnt do anything anymore right?

The majority of these have been about the ultimate the title of the thread is even about the AOE stun however lets talk about all of her skills in general. Actually we have already had a conversation in another thread but I'll start from scratch. She only has 2 possible aoe stuns the 625 range W or the possible 745 range ult. Then we have the 625 range targeted Q . Unless annie burns flash she cannot match veigar's stun range which due to how it works is up to 1075 range he can stun you from for a longer duration.

TL: DR Yes annie has similar counterplay issues but her stun isn't nearly as strong as veigars was. He had so many bonuses on her listing them all was a paragraph long. The only flaw of veigar's stun was the the veigar player could miss.

Reazale4 votes

Yes , annie cant match Veigars stun range , but veigar cant even think about covering the area annie covers with any of those 2 spells, he has more range, but less tankiness and he is less likely to stun more than 1-3 players.

That said: i wouldnt mind annie getting 200 more range for a .75 delay on her aoe skills. (actually i would , some shit is okay as it is, even if it doesnt have a lot of counterplay)

I agree. In practice Annie is way easier to apply than veigar is. However riot doesn't always balance based on general ease. In some cases they go after the best case scenarios with veigar stun being a primary example. It's so hard to screw up annie stun I can't even think about it. Where if veigar screws up it could mean he is dead. I just don't see a way riot can fix annie without utterly destroying her. Hell we have seen the results of a counterplay addition for this instant stun problem. Veigar got it and now a day hasn't gone past without people thinking it is one of the worst balance decisions riot games has ever made. So my question is why do people want riot to do something to annie too when we should know it's most likely going to make her just as terrible. I feel bad for the veigar players but save the children!

Reazale2 votes

Best case scenario balance is a lie , else guys like lee (aoe airborne), zed (everything in his kit has the potential to do aoe), orianna(another shit ton of aoe dmg , everything she does is aoe but her passive) among others would get shafted. They dont balance for best case, and annier best case its easier to achieve than Veigars.

I dont think annie is a real problem even tho her stun could be tagged as "lacking counterplay" like veigars did so i can relate to that (thats why i added that last sentence).

Or did you forget annie has a stun before level 6 and can use it twice in under 10 seconds during a team fight.

And before level 6 her burst damage pales by comparison...

Junkο21 votes

yea 220+(165% AP) is really weak burst when everybody has 500-600 health, and that's not even counting the fact that her E reflects damage. There is a reason why Annie is really good at zoning.

snip to save some space.

I don't see why annie having a stun pre 6 matters. Many champions have knockups or stuns almost matching her stun duration pre 6 and don't require a stack system to gain access to. I don't even know if another champion has a stack system that they have to wait for before they can cc you other than viktor.

Now I am gonna assume you were making two separate points about the pre 6 stun and twice in 10 seconds comment but heck ill answer both versions cause what better to do at 5 something am.

Annie cannot use her stun twice in under 10 seconds pre 6. Unless you are packing some serious early game cdr she has a 10 second cd on e and an 8 second CD on W. Then a 4 second CD on Q. In 10 seconds of annie hitting a test dummy with spells you get 1 E, 2 Qs, and 1 W. You haven't even stunned the guy yet and it's already been 4 spells and 10 seconds. You need 24 seconds to stun a single person twice with no cdr pre 6. You would probably kill them before you got to stun them twice pre 6 in this manner as or they would be dangerously low HP.

Now assuming you are focusing on late game. This is where you are correct. With 40% cdr and ult up with stun already charged she can ult you for the first stun then it takes her 7.2 seconds of continuous spellscast 3Q, 1W, 1E to stun that same person again. You get 7 seconds to do something about it. While it is doable 7 seconds is a long time in a teamfight. It may be over by then. Anyway 7 seconds of spellcast after she ulted you should have probably killed any non-tank before she even got the next stun.

I disagree that it's only useful when bursting someone. Here are things Veigar can do with just stun. Block paths which would force you to dash through the wall or blink past it. With the proposed pbe chance he will actually make it impossible to dash out of the wall which will be amazing! If you have no mobility options he can trap you inside of it.

Sure you may not be stunned but you still cannot attempt to leave this zone for 3 seconds. If you were to touch the wall near the end of those 3 seconds by accident or being pushed into it you would have effectively been stuck in this area for 4.5 to 5.5 seconds. That's a pretty decent duration of being trapped somewhere.

BuCkeT SeiZureS2 votes

You are wrong about a few things. Veigars new stun still give the .75 second delay display to enemies. So in lane, it is useless as most will dash out before hand, and people with boots will walk out. So while slightly buffed for team fights, there is more than enough time to avoid veigar's stun. It is still an amazing zoning tool, but veigars kit is so cut up that he cant really succeed now. Honestly, rework E and buff W, and you have yourself a champion. For now, he is too immobile to catch mobile targets out. And most strong mages out range him.

I'm not seeing how that post was wrong. I listed things veigar can do with his stun and durations the walls last. You didn't exactly give me a context for what was wrong there you just said you are wrong and that was it then you went on about something completely unrelated. I literally didn't even post about his delay or his teamfighting. If your post was meant to be a rebuttal then I don't get how arguing something completely different then what I was posting about helps here. I even stated that when you have 0 mobility options you will be stuck inside. Obviously people with mobility skills will be able to escape it. I would actually like to know if tier two boots alone let me walk from the center of the ring outside before it goes off. My mind is telling me no but I would like a video just to see it. I havent actually seen veigar played much since the change.

Reazale1 votes

And the only one that doesnt have a higher area of impact is her Q. There is a huge diference in having an instant 50º cone with 625 range and having a 700 diameter circle that only stuns in its border , Veigar would function fine with annies passive instead of his E, maybe the same can be said about annie working with Veigars E instead of her passive.

Martyrofsand3 votes

Yes and Annie's stun lasts a max of 1.75 seconds, happens as soon as she casts her spells with her passive active, does not create an area of denial that requires you to either go around it, be stunned or blow a flash. Annie's also requires her to cast 4 spells, which if she has minions to last hit she can do reasonably with her Q otherwise she will need to use her E 10 sec CD, or her W 8 sec CD giving the CD on passive around ~26 seconds. In combat if she leads with her stun she can get her W+Q+E off and then get another Q off refreshing her passive around 4 seconds later, so she can reliable in a team fight if she goes in with her stun up get 2 AoE stuns off in around 8ish seconds if she casts correctly for her 2nd W to be a stun.

Veiger stun is as max rank a 2.5 second stun that creates an area that requires flash to get across, or else be stunned, and is on a 14 second CD at a longer range than Annie's, even with Annie ultimate.

I won't argue that personally I would favor Annie's passive over Veiger's E for a team fight, as in an 8 second span she can get 3.5 seconds of AoE stun off when done right while Veiger would be stuck at 2.5, however I'm not sure I would be so quick to compare them considering Veiger is a single target burst anti-mage and Annie is more an AoE burst mage. I would agree that the .75 second delay on Veigers E is bullshit though.
