Pantheon execution marker?

Zelnick··2 votes·1,029 views

Can Pantheon just get like a simple little graphic that hovers over enemies showing when a particular attack would actually finish them off for his 15% passive? It's very annoying to have an underestimate or overestimate since there isn't any time to actually do math in the game. Like have a spear icon if a spear would finish them off and/or a sword-on-shield icon if a basic attack would finish them off. Zed get's his own finisher indicator, it only makes sense other champs do too.

The further a number is from an operation with a power of two, the harder it is for people to recognize accurately. Sometimes a pantheon goes in expecting an easy kill but the enemy is only at 20% so they fall short for no reason. Sometimes a Pantheon player might be to safe and wait until they're are 5%, letting them get away when they could have killed them sooner.

Why?

Why?

Because humans cannot reliably recognize 15/100ths of a random number and with pantheon having such short range, there's no reason why he shouldn't be compensated for his risk; the further a number is from an operation with a power of two, the harder it is for people to recognize accurately. Sometimes a pantheon goes in expecting a final blow but the enemy is only at 20% so they fall short and die. Sometimes a Pantheon player might be too safe and wait until they're are 5%, letting them get away when they could have killed them. Zed get's an icon showing when his ult will finish someone off, but pantheon has almost no range. It's an indisputable fact that the generalization of pantheon's ability is dealing significantly more damage to a low health target, no different than any execution ability.

Oh you confused me. A indicator for if he's gonna auto crit or not? I don't think it's needed but if both teams can see it I don't see a problem with it.

Well how about you play Pantheon in your series for Diamond 1 and see how you like it when you think you can finish someone off but they get away and win the game and lose your series.

This makes sense for actual execution mechanics.

Pantheon's E passive is just a guaranteed crit, not an actual execution mechanic.

And? People want to know if the crit will finish them off, I know for a fact you would if you were in the middle of a game in your series. There is no real execution mechanic, everything is just damage. Even zed's ult isn't an "execution" mechanic it's just a debuff for a player.

Zielmann2 votes

And... Jhin doesn't get an indicator to tell him his guaranteed crits will finish a target. Neither does Fiora, Shaco, or Xin.

Things like Jinx and Veigar ults, which actually function as executes, deserve this long before Panth does for a guaranteed crit mechanic.

You understand execute doesn't actually exist right? It's just some more damage, there's no spell in the game that guarantees that a champion dies. Pantheon is no different, just some extra damage based on the status of someone's health, no differently generalized than veigar or jinx ults.

The ONLY thing in the game that actually acts like an execute is face of the mountain or relic shield passive, where it guarantees a minion dies below a certain amount of health.

Zielmann1 votes

Execute mechanics traditionally will scale with or deal bonus damage based on the target's percent of missing health. Theory being that there's a point where they're low enough health that the ability's normal damage wouldn't kill them, but the bonus based on the percent missing HP would. See: Garen, Jinx, and Veigar ults.

Darius is a bit of an outlier on these, as his 'execute' doesn't actually scale off missing health, but rather the stacks of his passive on the target. The reason an indicator makes sense for him is particularly because of the reset mechanic on the ability. It's critical that the ult actually kills the first target, or he won't get the reset.

removeing the skill from gagueing when you need to ult to get the reset rather than just ult and do damage which will likely end up a kill anyway

Pantheon doesn't execute people below 15% Health, he just has 100% Crit Chance against people under 15% Health.

Next, will you ask for a marker for all ADC if they reach 100% Crit Chance, too? Or for Yasuo? What the marker should represent? When they can kill you in one aa or one spell?

You understand that you need a good reason to add a marker indicating that you can kill someone in one hit, right? And a marker with a precise and defined meaning, I might add.

Cho has one because he must be sure to kill his opponent to get Stacks. Zed has one because his ult proc deals wildly varying amount of damage depending on what else you did with it, and he needs to know when to get out. Garen has one because he's supposed to win easily against the Villain.

Tell me why Panth needs a marker, and I may reconsider. "Because Zed has one" is not a good reason, though.

Note that Riven and Veigar and Ekko, who have a much similar mechanism to Pantheon than Zed don't have a marker either. They all have bonus damage triggered when the enemy is under a certain threshold or scaling damage capped when the enemy is under a certain threshold.

You understand that the passive only exists to finish someone off right? So if you can't do it's job reliably, it either needs to be fixed or shouldn't be in the game.

DeathBurst1 votes

the passive only exists to finish someone off

Yeah, like all execute moves. Which do exist, whatever you think. A move that deals more damage to a low life enemy is an execute, by definition. It may only be "bonus damage", that's what an "execute move" means. And they don't all have a marker, actually most of them don't have a marker, and some spells which do have a marker are not execute.

  • Cho R isn't an execute. Zed R isn't an execute. They both have a marker.
  • Voli bite, Ekko W passive, Riven ult, Veigar ult, Fizz DoT, Jinx ult are all executes, and none of them has a marker.
  • The only spell that is an execute AND has a marker is Garen R, and even that, that's only against the Villain, not all enemies.

So, again, why would Pantheon need a marker more than the other 6 spells which "only exist to finish someone off" I just mentioned?

{quoted} So, again, why would Pantheon need a marker more than the other 6 spells which "only exist to finish someone off" I just mentioned?

Never said they needed it more or less, strawmanning is reportable and I'm reporting you even time you do it henceforth. Pantheon is a starting point because his percentage is the lowest which also makes it harder to accurately perceive in the same way people can't accurate guess the weight of a flake of dust or the width of a hair. There clearly isn't time to do a lot of math when 10 people are fighting each other or even in lane, no one in LCS gets out a calculator in the middle of a game, 0.15 of a completely random number simply isn't an easy number to work with, unlike 1/2 or 1/4.

Garen has his indicator, soraka has his indicator, zed has his indicator, even soraka has an indicator, pantheon indicator is just another step in the right direction.

You obviously can't read. Of course "like Pantheon's passive". What else would "the passive exists only to finish someone off, like all execute moves" mean, but that it is similar to all the other moves I mentioned?

Report me if you want. I don't have a lot of faith in the board moderation, but this case is soooo obvious that I have no doubt it will be considered a false report.

Never said they did, straw-manning is reportable in the forums.

Well, I didn't say you said it. I provide that fact as a further argument to defend my point of view. So who's strawmaning who, now?

So by your reasoning slavery shouldn't have been abolished because it didn't start out abolished, which also isn't logically consistent.

That's a ridiculously out of proportion comparison. But more importantly, that was not my point at all. My point was that this champs function perfectly well without any marker, so why Panth would be any different?

But you obviously don't understand what you're talking about. You're not even asking for a marker indication that Pantheon passive is activated, you're asking for a marker that shows you can kill someone in one-hit, which is a completely different thing, as per your first post.

Like have a spear icon if a spear would finish them off and/or a sword-on-shield icon if a basic attack would finish them off.

That isn't even related to the passive at all, and according to your own reasoning, you should give such a marker to each of the 130 champions, not only to those with an execute or scaling damage.

{quoted} That's a ridiculously out of proportion comparison. But more importantly, that was not my point at all. My point was that this champs function perfectly well without any marker, so why Panth would be any different?

It's not a comparison, it's just a fact. You said because we don't already have it, we shouldn't get it. If champions functioned perfectly, there would never be a complaint about them. If Pantheon functioned perfectly there would never be a complaint about him. Since 15/100 is tremendously more difficult to estimate in around or less than a second than 1/2 and in almost all cases impossible (unless your a savant), the benefit of having a marker exceeds the complaints against it, which are none by the way, except for maybe one egotistical complaint which has no specified logically consistent reasoning to support it).

{quoted} But you obviously don't understand what you're talking about. You're not even asking for a marker indication that Pantheon passive is activated, you're asking for a marker that shows you can kill someone in one-hit, which is a completely different thing, as per your first post.

{quoted} That isn't even related to the passive at all, and according to your own reasoning, you should give such a marker to each of the 130 champions, not only to those with an execute or scaling damage.

I don't know why people are randomly downvoting. This seems like a good idea, it should indicate when an enemy champion will take the guaranteed crit from his e and autos. I've played panth for a couple days and I was surprised they didn't have it in already.

I'd like people who think otherwise to justify khaxiz's isolation indicator, or garen's ult, or soraka's passive.

That's actually probably a better idea to be honest. Some people go into denial, some people are very cowardly to make this change because they fallaciously think they're better than other people due to judging pantheon's passive or other health stats, it's only ego, nothing objective or logical about it. The reality is it would help people and their pride is getting in the way of making the game more enjoyable.

I use to play pantheon but I don't play pantheon much anymore and I lose team fights pretty consistently due to him so it's not in my own interest to help him. The motivation actually comes from seeing so many other people fail trying to get me and my team mates. It's impossible to calculate or recognize 15/100ths of random high numbers of someone's health in a fast-paced environment (unless you're a savant) in a short time whereas you could easily recognize if someone is below 1/2 health in 0.25 seconds, and the league client won't let you exit the game so you can't use a calculator. But, even if you could, it would waste time that there's no reason to waste. Pantheon's passive serves as a way to finish off people specifically at very low health, it's an indisputable fact that the generalization of his passive isn't any different from an execution ability; to deal significantly more damage to very low health targets. So it should start being treated like one.

Pantheon's E isn't an execution. It's a guaranteed crit. Execution abilities (for which said execution icons are generally reserved for) are mostly abilities that scale off percent missing health, meant to finish off low health targets. For instance, Garen ult. That is why they have the indicator. Pantheon's E has nothing to do with that.

But judging from your replies to other people who told you the same thing, you're basically a mule that refuses to listen to anyone else and just stubbornly keeps arguing its own failing arguments.

Except like, his E passive is what you're trying to consider as an execute worthy enough for an icon. Just because your Q/E crit doesn't mean it's going to kill them. Execution abilities with % missing health are meant to sure-kill low health enemies. Also, said execution abilities are usually ultimates, which can't just be spammed over and over, unlike Pantheon's Q/E. So no, it does not need an indicator.

I pity things like you.

Zelnick1 votes

{quoted}

Except like, his E passive is what you're trying to consider as an execute worthy enough for an icon.

I don't need to consider anything, it's an indisputable fact that the generalization of his passive functions exactly as any other execute ability: to deal significantly more damage to significantly low health targets. And, since it's biologically impossible to calculate 15/100ths of random large numbers in short amounts of time, especially while playing a video game (unless your a savant), there is no reason not to have an indicator.

{quoted} Just because your Q/E crit doesn't mean it's going to kill them.

And just because Jinx's ultimate deals more damage for each percentage of missing health doesn't gaurantee it's going to kill them either which has been proven no less than hundreds of times. [zombie-brand-facepalm]

{quoted} Execution abilities with % missing health are meant to sure-kill low health enemies.

And yet those abilities regularly fail to finish off champions just as easily, and, the relic shield passive is the only ability in the game that states it is guaranteed to kill a unit below a certain amount of health.

{quoted}

Also, said execution abilities are usually ultimates, which can't just be spammed over and over, unlike Pantheon's Q/E.

This point is meaningless because under your own admitted terms, spamming is still an issue since critical strikes also deal significantly more damage.

{quoted} I pity things like you.

You should pity yourself, you clearly need it more than anyone else here.

Astôlfo1 votes

Except if it was meant to be an execution ability, it would SCALE off the missing health. Not just happen to do something at a certain amount of health. For an exaggerated example, if there was an ability that did 50% missing health, it guarantees a kill if said target is less than half. Same thing, if some random ability (like Garen ult) which does 525 magic damage + 40% missing health at level 3 existed - which it does - it's obviously meant to be a finisher ability that can't be spammed over and over instantly. Also, in the case of the Villain, it does true damage meaning it's completely irreducible. So if the enemy has less than 60% health (and even less, after the 525 base), it is a garen-teed kill.

That is the whole point of scaling off missing health for an EXECUTION ability. It is meant to be a guaranteed kill if the user of said ability actually knows what they're doing with it and not just shooting it randomly.

The whole reason those abilities have an indicator is because just about every single one of those execution abilities is an ultimate. WHICH IS MEANT TO FINISH OFF LOW HEALTH ENEMIES AS A SURE KILL ABILITY. Yes, the user can be an idiot and use it when said target has like full health. That's irrelevant. For any other player who's actually half-intelligent, they'd realize it scales off missing health and would use it when said missing health scaling is enough to secure the kill. Which is what the indicator is for. Those abilities cannot be spammed over and over. Pantheon's Q and E can be spammed every few seconds. Giving an execution indicator to that would make it even more braindead easy to tell.

You essentially posted the same thing twice so I'll respond to the last point since that's different. I never said you suggested that. I'm saying there's no need for an execution indicator on something that is just crit at a certain health instead of missing health. % missing health is always relative which means it's a sure kill (excluding resistances/shields/whatever) below a certain amount of health. Crit damage is always variable depending on builds/level/etc and thus is not a sure kill. That's why I was saying that.

Do you get my point?

Zelnick1 votes

{quoted}

Except if it was meant to be an execution ability, it would SCALE off the missing health.

Unless of course Pantheon was created before that scaling concept was invented and needs to be tweaked. You still haven't circumvented the fact that the generalization of Pantheon's passive and other "execution" abilities are identical.

{quoted}

obviously meant to be a finisher ability that can't be spammed over and over instantly.

Except not only are those abilities never, ever, ever guaranteed to finish someone off (as thousands of games have proven), but I'm not even asking to turn his passive into a percentage ability so it's a completely moot point to use the percent basis for not having a marker.

{quoted} that can't be spammed over and over instantly.

Once again, critically striking is still a significant damage boost, once again your point is completely moot because pantheon still has the ability and it's off topic because I'm not suggesting to turn pantheon's passive, so you have no basis to use percent missing health to not have the marker.

{quoted} So if the enemy has less than 60% health (and even less, after the 525 base), it is a garen-teed kill.

It's never guaranteed unless it has a specific marker over it specifying it will kill people. Without that marker, people miscalculate it non-stop.

{quoted} It is meant to be a guaranteed

Nope. That's what people want it to be, and that's what pantheon players want theirs passive to be.

{quoted} WHICH IS MEANT TO FINISH OFF LOW HEALTH ENEMIES AS A SURE KILL ABILITY

Just like pantheon's passive, obviously.

{quoted} For any other player who's actually half-intelligent

Even people in diamond or masters miscalculate it, you just insulted hundreds of thousands of people who are better at the game than you.

{quoted}

Those abilities cannot be spammed over and over.

Again, I never suggested pantheon should get damage for percent missing health so that point is moot. If every single spear did bonus damage based on missing health it would obviously be overpowered.

{quoted} Pantheon's Q and E can be spammed every few seconds.

Which would mean something if pantheon actually had the option to instantly damage someone whenever he wanted, but he has almost no range and his ultimate is the longest channel in the game.

Astôlfo1 votes

Yes, Panth's kit is old and not updated to fit it. Yes, it would make sense as an execution ability with % missing health scaling instead of just critting. No, it is not an execution ability in its current state.

I never said you were asking for % missing health scaling on it.

You must not be reading because I said it is meant to be guaranteed because of the very fact it's % missing health. And in the case of indicators, the indicator says it's a sure kill. And in the case of something like Garen vs Villain, it's irreducible true damage.

Pantheon's passive does not have % missing health. % missing health makes it easy to figure out whether or not it will kill someone. Crit does not guarantee because it is constantly variable depending on your own damage.

Not if there's an indicator they don't.

Uh, first of all, your statement is incorrect. I can think of one off the top of my head that's longer (Morg ult). That's not the point I'm going to make though. The point is, if the E passive which you want as an execution was changed, it's too easy/strong if it's on an ability/abilities you can spam every few seconds until the indicator pops up. And if you're Pantheon, most people won't be getting away from you before you can do that.

The indicator on said % missing health execution ults is meant to make the ult worth something more important. Not just something they can spam every few seconds until they're sure it will kill them.

So you somehow actually are trying to tell me it wouldn't be helpful to a pantheon player for them to know when their execution-style passive is going to kill someone? So based on that I'm guessing you think all the Riot developers should be put in jail for intentionally wasting corporate funds on the zed indicator and the garen indicator, and you're going to call your lawyer right now and press charges because you're so certain of your reasoning.

Like I said, I don't play pantheon anymore, and my top lane usually feeds him and then he fucks up my lane so it's not in my self-interest to help him, I'm doing this because it doesn't make sense for such a close range champion to have an execution-style passive without any guaranteed compensation for the risk they're taking putting themselves in that danger. It's too sad to see a pantheon commit to a dive and and barely not kill someone who only survived with 10 health due to some number that's biologically impossible for them to accurately recognize. Anyone could recognize being below 100% health or being below 50% health, but no one knows where exactly 15% health is just by looking at it, it's like trying to guess the weight of a thumb tack, it's just too small to accurately assess by feel (which research supports).

those other skills need to have their indicator mechanics taken away and p,layers need to use their discression but it isnt fair that other characters get indicators and panth doesn't but you would want an indicator of when the enemy reaches 15% so you know you will get your garenteed crit not an exicution indicator though in this season with all the squishy champions it will kill most squishy champions

I feel like knowing your damage by 'feel' (since no one has time to stop and math) is part of learning a champion.

Zeds thing is less for zed and more for people to know if they need to try to ram more biscuits in their face, and cho ult indicator I feel like is a crutch that should potentially be removed.

If you play whatever champ enough, you should be able to glance at the items built and be pretty confident in knowing your all in potential.

Which makes sense for random crit strikes and burst mages who deal 1000+ damage from 1200 units away, but not for 15% which no one has been able to pricey judge in this fast-paced game and an extremely close range champion.

I can pretty much guarantee high elo panth mains know the damage output, including accounting for the 15% crits.
