@Riot Repertior: Ryze Update for Worlds?

Hi Repertior, in this thread you mentioned that you were evaluating Ryze's balance and hoping to have something for him before Worlds. I'm guessing that any changes aren't happening in 5.18 at this point, but I still wanted to check in. What are the balance team's current thoughts? His soloq win and pick rates are both still abysmally low. A big part of the point of the rework was to make him less binary and easier to balance, so leaving him in a state where he's very weak for non-expert players for a long time would be pretty disappointing.

I think that the challenge is because any one of his spells might be cast a dozen times in an extended fight, even the slightest change to them has enormous implications for his power level. Given that he has virtually no counterplay (three of his spells are point and click, and if you can't land a skillshot on a snared target you don't deserve to), the balance team is forced to keep him on the 'weak' end of the spectrum. He's a lot like Poppy, honestly: because his kit is so un-fun to play against, he's forced to be unappealingly weak.
