Poachers dirk is an example of an item that teaches newer players without being a noobtrap.
Ive played with poachers dirk. Its a cost efficient item if youre going for 2 serated dirks in your build and can easily clear a camp quickly. The problem in high elo is you might not get a chance to invade the enemies jungle. The lower elos that ive played in however are completely different.
reasons it could be a noobtrap: -It cost 500 gold. Legit this is the only noobtrap mechanic on it. Because you could start with it noobs that didnt know the important of smite items would try to start it.
Reasons it taught newer players: -it taught newer players through practice about invadeing at appropriate times. -it gave you a damage boost for playing correctly teaching newer players about gold. -it taught newer players that sometimes its a good idea to just drop an investment (this is a lesson for bad teamfights).
Reasons it seems like a noobtrap but doesnt apply to lower elo: -if you fail you get punished hard. -if you cant get off the serated part you wont be able to be effective in teamfights. (lower elo players dont kite)
So i dont understand how serated dirk was really a noobtrap except due to being too cheep (its a 600g bounty if you finish it).
