A change to vision in League
So I dont think I'm alone in feeling like vision in league is in a poor spot right now. I hope this post will resonate with many others and get some attention of a Rioter.
So to start with, since the removal of green wards there have been limited ways to provide vision; and its more of a team goal. The problem that also exists (probably much much more common in low elo) is supports who do not want to get sightstone let alone a ruby sightstone. I can see why many support players feel disenfranchised by this item considering it gives very little for support players in terms of power or actual gameplay/strategy. So without going into a straw-mans debate on proper support itemization or whos job it is to ward I would like to propose a solution and why I think it makes sense.
I feel like, given the removal of green wards, there should not be a limit on the amount of wards that you can place at any given time in the game (with the exception of pink wards/control wards (whatever your like to call them)). Now of course this might be a little drastic to change something so important and I believe it can be offset by reducing the duration a wards life if you have more than 4 wards on the map. For example if you have 3 wards on the map they will all last for the standard 150 seconds, if you have 4 wards they each only last 100 seconds, 5 wards==>90 sec. and so on. Also the amount of charges in ruby sightstone should be increased to 5 or 6 to facilitate this change and incentivise upgrading ones sightstone. I dont think that the map should be always lit up and but I do think the game right now is just too dark and there is no meaningful gameplay for the support player who is providing vision.
Now to the why this is a good idea. First off, it creates strategy and more meaningful selection of where you ward and where you dont. If you have 10 wards on the map to get as much vision as you can they will run out very fast and then you are left in the dark until you can recall and fill your charges. It also makes it so you can make more informed decisions and help your team. To elaborate, if you are setting up vision at drake you need a ward behind the pit one in the tri brush and one near mid lane but you might also want one up in baron to make sure they arent sneaking a baron. The next point is that playing with such limited vision just isn't healthy for the game. I cant stand watching a pro game and seeing a player either die for face checking a bush or walking away from a bush for fear that it hides a kah zix in it just because they cannot have more than three wards on the map. There are approximately 31 bushes on summoners rift (many more if you have a Ivern) and many many more units of terrain.I have seen so many teams at worlds just give up a baron because they didn't have vision to even formulate a contest for it. It is not skillful to evade an area because you dont know what is there, it is not skillful to die just because you entered a wrong bush. Im not saying that it should be foolproof or there should not be guesswork/risk/reward but it is just plain bad/good luck if you gain an advantage from being in a random bush at the wrong time. So their should be** more options for players to make informed choices.** I, and I think others would agree, that part of the reason a limit was imposed was to see more action at high level play from making UN-informed decisions. AGAIN, YOU SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SEE EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME but you should be able to see more to make skilled decisions rather than having bad luck. (Just as an aside I must say i like the game of deceit and guess work that fog of war creates, but it does not need to be excessive to the point that you are working with too little information.) The obvious reason this is a good idea is because it rewards players and teams that use vision tools. It will make more people build sightsone and want to upgrade it. I can never see a reason to upgrade to ruby sightsone currently even with the CDR on items buff. The only way that you can truly utilize that is to build 5 items that have actives on them which does not make sense. Currently you use the extra charges to preposition wards when you need to, but with this change those charges are very useful for commanding a larger area of vision for a shorter period of time. There used to be something called the "vision game" where you tired to deny you enemy vision and expand your own. right now there are soooo few wards on the map and soooo many ways to remove wards that this "game" does not exist anymore. In a way providing vision and countervison has been really dumbed down to the point that you just dont have many options.
So I believe that there are other reasons to implement this change, but I have already created a lengthy post that many wont read top to bottom so please add your input and facilitate the discussion. I hope that you will upvote and a Rioter will take notice and consider such an idea for the Mid Season Update. Thanks guys I hope I did not waste your time.[slayer-jinx-catface]
