They actually can't currently, due to how the map was designed. The map graphics don't rotate well, and the performance cost to enable them to do so isn't a good idea yet -- too many players would suffer a performance hit as a result. There was an article on it around the time of the new map launch, if I remember correctly.

There's a bigger problem than just being able to rotate. Between the graphics and something along the line of this video:

The map is created on a specific coordinated plane. You would literally have to flip the X and Z axis as a concept to make anything work properly.

Even issues such as elevation would be more properly exploited (such as rotating the map so you literally can just aim up or down, rather then worrying about the elevation properties of diagonal, left, or right.)

If they locked the map horizontally eh sure, I guess if everybody adapted it would be better off that way, but camera rotation is just asking for disaster both in coding, interactions, and exploiting how the game currently works.

There have been mods that do this, and they end up looking kinda weird

The backs of some objects have no mesh or texture, and everything is stretched in an odd way to make it look like, despite the isometric camera angle, you're looking at them head-on

They'd likely have to redo the entire map

2.5d map sounds nice

A map created only from a specific point of view is pretty lazy and bad in hindsight. Though isn't the map almost completely symmetrical? Example being red buff pits actually having textures for both sides.

The upper image makes me feel sick more than what it should.
