What If Dragon's Buffs Swapped On Kill

there have been complaints regarding Snowballing in League ever since League was a thing. These complaints have gone up or down over time with different seasons, items, champs and mechanics. Theoretically, no one really likes Snowballing, right? I mean, if you are getting Snowballed then you have no significant chance of winning, so you get discouraged, and thus you are even more likely to lose. And if you are Snowballing, then sure you'll win but it almost becomes a joke, and you only lose if you dick around too much.

I mean the most fun games I've had are ones where its actually, legimiately "close" or where you come back from behind to snag a victory.

And Riot as a whole seems to support this. They reduced certain strategies like proxy and backdooring through gold changes and tower buffs respectively, and the Dragon buff was meant to give you a "fighting chance", so that even if you were behind, you could focus an objective to gain some footing.

If that is the case, then why not make it so that Dragon's Buffs swapped teams on kill?

For example, let's say Team A kills Dragon three times because they are really far ahead early, and then Team B manages a fantastic play and snags the fourth Dragon kill.

In Live, this means that Team A has Buffs 1, 2 & 3 and Team B gets Buff 1. However this just means that Team B is still playing Catch Up trying to get the buffs. They are fighting a losing battle just so they can break even.

With my idea, if Dragon's full stack of Buffs changed teams, it would mean that Team A has 0 buffs, and now Team B has Buffs 1, 2, 3 & 4.

I think the buffs themselves (especially the 5th rank buff) would need to be changed for this kind of system, but it seems to me that this would allow a team to reasonably stage a real "come back" in the late game by securing that buff. There are drawbacks, of course. I'm not saying that this should happen, I just wanted to open up the discussion.

Do you think this would have any merit?

I don't like it, it would be just as snowbally but inconsistently so. Now you get a lucky smite steal and go from 0 buffs to 5, which is on par with baron buff.

What if, if you were behind on buffs and successfully CONTESTED a dragon (ie fight the enemy near dragon and get the dragon kill) you would get the same # of buffs they have (not more, just the, obviously if you are the same # of buffs already you get your normal +1)? Even this is potentially a bit much though.

I don't see this as beneficial for a few reasons, mainly:

  • You'd have to ace the enemy team, entirely possible but not ideal to HAVE to do. And in the case you get aced, you lose the buffs you worked for and had good objective pressure to obtain.
  • What happens when you get a double ace? Doesn't happen often, but in the case that it does from, say, an ignite or a tower hit - then what?
  • Puts a lot less emphasis on taking objectives throughout the game when you can just take it due to having a better team comp, which is a lot of the point of an objective-based game.

i think that if you took a dragon you should get that buff like if blue gets 1-3 and red gets the 4th one red team gets the 4th buff(minion damage) meaning you can give up certain dragons you dont care for so much. after all 5 buffs it starts over but if you already have what it should give then it goes to the first one you dont have once you have all 5 it just gives the 5th one over and over like normal

If your team manages to snag dragon every time it's up, then you're obviously playing a way better game than your opponents are. The experience and the gold give a snowball advantage already, but the point of the buff is provide incentive for actually fighting over the advantages you get. Plus, every team has an equal chance to get the buff and take advantage. It's the team that prioritizes it that gets the most benefit. I was skeptical at first with the dragon buff coming, but I agree with its use and I think it serves a good purpose. Not overpowered. Not underpowered. Just to try and get the competitive ball rolling.

This is the worst idea I have ever heard. If your team lets them get all 5 dragons without contesting them even once then you deserve to lose. Seriously you should never let a team get anymore the 3 dragons for free. Once they get their third dragon you have to start contesting the dragon or your just asking to lose. Buy wards, ward the dragon, keep a counter on the dragon, and know when you can or cant contest the dragon. Know your item and champ power spikes and know when your strong enough to contest it. Its not hard.
