Why do people try to contest baron/elder when you have open Nexus/inhibitors?

one of the most common Bronze/Silver/Gold mistakes ever made Omg look at me! let me ward either of those and try to fight them when they have the clear advantage and we have no wards around our jg 15 seconds into jg baron/elder gets popped and my team gets caught 1 by 1 I try to save them/stay at base to at least have some help defending at base towers and try and pull some play off but nope everyone dies and the opponents win and my face is like [zombie-brand-mindblown]

Depends sometimes, if your lanes are shoved and you got a couple of seconds to spare and you commit to a fight then it's either you win the fight and stall the game or lose trying.

It's often a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation once you get to that point.

Obvious specific situations will vary, but sometimes it's clear you won't be able to fight off a baron empowered push, so you have to go for the 1% plays for the miracle steal, and/or maybe killing them while they're weakened by the baron.

As with most things in this game though, you really do need to work as a team, whatever the call.

Usually when the opponents have baron they will be scared to go in under towers if the opposing team has decent teamfight or if all the minions are killed before they can hit tower

Yeah when your team is trying to defend towers and one of the opponents has tele so they could easily teleport and chip away at nexus while we fight

If you're just gonna let the enemy grab all the farm and objectives while you stay inside your base, the game is already over.

I've had people argue me that the Baron buff isn't a pushing tool in matches. They claimed we needed to group up, and not split push for the best advantage.

in a way it is because strong minions but not worth the death timer

But it's a waste of the buff by it's very nature to group up and not split with it. That's why everyone gets the ability to power up the minions. If you're not splitting with the Baron buff, you're wasting it, because it doesn't offer anything else but a recall shortening.
