Bronze in Gold game?

So I was smurfing in Gold with a friend for fun (not try harding, just fun games) and somehow everyone in the game was Gold but my support who was Bronze 2. This is a ranked btw, so match making this bad shouldn't happen. I felt really bad after because it tilted me how bad he was and I didn't know he was actually bronze till after the game.

Was just a very very unfair match despite me being Diamond because I was literally 1 vs 2 as he stood behind me as thresh, how did he get into the gold game you think?

The matchmaking doesn't care about divisions, it's based on mmr.
