What is Ryze's Niche?

You know how you'd want a Kog'maw if the enemy team has a ton of tanks, or a lulu/zilean when you do a "Protect The ADC" comp? What does ryze do that other champions cant? Thanks ^.^

Ryze's schmick is mana hoarding just like how he originally was but this 3rd version of him makes the gag even tighter with his passive translating bonus mana based on how much he has for AP and his spells get extra damage from not only AP but also bonus mana. Because he has this gag, he can be one of the many mage champions who can self sustain themselves and burn mana extremely fast and not be overly ruined by it. Items like Seraph's staff lets him go extremely haywired with it since he will gain bonus mana based on his AP which will then also add even more ap to his kit because of the extra mana his passive is granting, you could make a joke that it loops into infinite mana and AP at that point but obviously they aren't going to pull those gags in a moba for god sakes. Helps too he can use that massive mana shield he can mix in with seraph staff for some powerful defensive measures too.

Its just further added on with a 'combo system' with his E giving extra effects on E(spread E to nearby targets alongside refreshing it), W(Doubles the root duration) and Q(Resets whenever W or E is used and if a target is affected by E, then Q will deal bonus damage to them plus splinter off and hit any other targets with E on them), which grants him that nice powerful versatility but not overpowered instant kill or scummie kill you like Yasuo, Nautlius, Twitch, Shaco, Akali, etc. pull out).

He combos like crazy and has the best pushing power in the game. He can also group teleport. Very useful as a surprise engage or emergency escape. I cannot tell you how many times I portaled out of a fatal situation with his ult.
