What lane does Jayce do best in?

I've seen him played top, but more commonly mid. What lane allows him to play at his full potential?

I like him best top. I play him mid as well. If the top laner doesn't have a gap closer or escape Jayce is the person to pick. Or if they have a gap closer but no way to escape afterwards. Pick Jayce. For example the enemy picks darius, enjoy your freelo.

How do you feel about him mid?

I play him there for situational matchups. With the meta mid being assassins lately, jayce doesnt do well in mid. The most common mids are, zed leblanc talon nidalee and annie. They all have great burst and 4/5 have gap closers straight to you with great poke in lane. Jayce fares well when his poke is far superior to his lane opponents and he can choose his engagements. He pokes until low then goes hammer and finishes them. Mid is more full of champs that can avoid his poke or keep engaging on him so it doesnt matter.

i've never played him mid but jayce also has very decent burst damage. ranged form: E, Q, change to melee, Q onto the enemy, get an instant auto to proc the magic damage and you can E for up to 20% of their hp + your AD

not many squishy champs can survive if he has poked them at least once, but jayce is very vulnerable to all ins because his abilities are delayed slightly upon changing and if silenced, he can't do anything but auto, his weakest trait

Mid, allows him to get blue buff, typically is best against squishies and his lack of strong escape makes him vulnerable to a lot of jungler + top lane combinations.

Obviously, can still go top lane.

Also, he's not the best fit for Teleport so top lane results in a weird limbo of either not having TP, or lacking a combat summoner that he needs.

Top he can zone out a lot of the champs with his cannon. Mid he can really hurt squishy champs, but he has to be careful. He can always adc I suppose.... not that his range will help much.

Depends on your composition and playstyle.

Jayce is really good at taking towers. If you're against a champion that likes to roam or that you can easily bully out then that's where he wants to be.

Generally it's easiest to bully out champions in top lane, and midlaners like to roam. Top takes a more aggressive 1v1 playstyle while mid is more of a passive playstyle to punish your opponent for being active on the map.

Don't pick it into a passive waveclear mid like Xerath/Ziggs/TF but definitely good against a champion like Ahri/Katarina/Ekko.

Toplane he does well against scaling melee champions like Mundo, Shyvana, Maokai but be careful against bruisers like Irelia/Riven/Jarvan.

Midlane is more situational, you need to have AP top or AP jungle before locking in Jayce otherwise your team is gonna be full AD which is automatic loss.
