How do you become a better Yasuo player?

I find Yasuo a very fun and high skill capped champion with tons and tons of plays possible. I just wanted some general tips to become a better Yasuo player. My laning with him still needs some work.

Power level aside I do think he is one of the highest skill cap champions. Other than Elise, zed, and azir I think he is harder mechanically than most others.

He is a very skill intensive champ. You have to micromanage q stacks to suit knockups at a moments notice, you need to time your windward perfectly to avoid cc, and you have to keep minions alive around you to have escape options due to his extremely situational escape. We are not talking about Zed here. We are talking about Yasuo. So yes, he is high skill capped.

Few small tips for laning:

  • Learn how to last hit without your Q.

Yasuo is a champion who will shove the lane fast if you are not careful, and part of this is the result of badly timed or badly aimed Qs, which end up damaging a lot of enemy minions and pushing the lane in their direction. If your enemy can keep up on your wave clear, you risk them getting to freeze the lane and you also risk exposing yourself to ganks as you stay pushed up. Learning how to last hit with auto attacks makes for better freezes and less shoving.

  • If you use your Wind Wall to block a powerful ability, take advantage of it.

This seems to be a mistake made by every fricking player in the world just learning to use Yasuo - nobody takes advantage of opportunities. When your opponent blows a big and powerful ability and you, by reaction or by prediction, are able to block it with your Wind Wall, you should engage on the enemy. To give an example, let's say Ahri is trying to poke me in lane and she fires her Q, so in response I block it with my Wind Wall. For 7 seconds now, she will not have access to the strongest single ability in her kit. 7 seconds to force a wonderful trade for myself. This is a wonderful opportunity to start a fight, and it should be taken.

  • Learn the E->Q combo.

No, not that one, the other one. Use your E, then after the animation ends, fire your Q. This gives you extra range, this gives you extra minion control if you were to hit all the minions if you did the spin, and it teaches you how to control Yasuo rather than getting excited and button spamming too much.

Wow! Thanks for the time and effort!

Hey no prob. Yasuo was certainly a learning experience for me (first champion I decided to main, god I made that hard for myself) and I'd always like to put aside a bit of time to help others with Yasuo.

How do you play Yasuo? The trick is mashing buttons like you are new to Tekken. Victory is then assured.

There isn't much to it. When you shield is up e into a minion near your enemy and harass with q and an auto possibly an e and then e back to safety. Rinse and repeat. Push the wave, go back, get your shiv, roam or farm and become a god.

This guy is way off. There is a ton that goes into being a good yasuo player. Learn how to dash through minions to dodge, harass and retreat. Learn how to kite with your q and when to save whilrwind and so on. He is one of the highest skill cap champions in the game so it really takes some time to learn all of his tricks.

He was having trouble with his laning phase so I answered that question. You basically repeated what I said and threw in highest skill cap in there.

You said that there isn't much to it. Which is way off. He s landing phase is much more complicsted than most champions.

Why is it more complicated? Because he can dash through minions to dodge skillshots and use a wall to block skillshots? If poppy were to dodge several skillshots coming at her without dashes etc.. it wouldn't be impressive. Why? Because yasuo's mobility is designed to look impressive and give the impression of high skill cap while in actuality the use of his e isn't high skill cap.

His e has almost as much ability to get you killed as it does to save you. It might just be an overloaded kit, I won't contest that. But his abilities on extremely short CDs reqiring a higher APM does directly relate to having a higher skill cap. Poppy ispoint and click, so most of her skill cap is based on positioning. Yasuos skill cap is higher because he relies on both postioning, skill shots, and awareness of his teammates cooldowns as well as his own. Regardless of whether yasuo is overpowered or underpowered he still remains one of the most mechanically intensive champions.

Well in a teamfight katarina's cooldowns can be even lower than yasuo's. Therefore, she must be have a higher skill cap than yasuo. If katarina can't assassinate someone, there goes her teamfight capability since she has no escape and no damage. However, general consensus is that katarina is faceroll ez mode champ.

Mathematically kats cool downs will never be as short as yasuo even in a team fight. Also, most of late damage comes from an auto targeted ability while yasuos is from low CD narrow skill shots. I would also argue that the general consensus on kat is not from her perspective but rather by people that haven't even player her.

You can't hesitate. When you commit for the kill, use your E to the best effect, especially when minions are involved. Also, don't try to reflex block all skillshots with your W. Chances are, if you think you need it, you'll probably need it even more later.

^Personal experience.

One last bit of advice I can give, Yasuo does great if your team has a good AoE knockup outside of yours (His is easy to dodge). But if you have a reliable AoE knockup for your ult to follow up with (ExMalphite) Yasuo will be a good pick.

He isn't someone you should blindly pick if your the only one on your team with a knockup.

Getting better at yasuo once you have gotten his skills down is all practice and knowing your limits. The more you understand about yasuo and how his power spikes, who he can take on at what points, the fluidity of his skills, his cd's, the more you use yasuo better and better.

Basically, the only way to truly become better at yasuo is simply using him over and over and over. Get to learn every trick like using windwall to give vision over a short wall, or the q-e-r

I Am Florg1 votes

The biggest tip I can give is take advantage of your wind wall for the full duration. When they try to walk through it dash through them so that you are still on the other side of the wall. Your auto range is actually large for a melee so you can auto through your wall while they try to move around it.

Just play nothing but him for 2 days. You will see drastic improvements over his mechanics.

I find it annoying that you have to wait until the E animation is over before you can use Q. If you do it while the animation is still playing it does the Q-spin thingy, which messes up your harass.

See what I do... is use Zilean.... to build me a time machine so I can go back in time to his release.

ace is on fire1 votes

to be a better yasuo player you must have fast reflexes to cast you wind wall and block skill shots. remmember to spam your q and knock up on your q it get really anoying for the enemy. use your ult in team fights it can single out enemies and back them out. get static shiv for aoe damage and crit stike its his main power. use you e to gap close or to run away . for yasuo biuld crit and attack speed .

notajokebtw2 votes

If you want to sustain a steraks gage will help so don't just crit and attack speed

Cant Land Kicks1 votes

Frozen mallet is stronger than steraks imo

ZhoroGeorgiev1 votes

For yasuo build you do not continue building crit and attackspeed. In most of the matchups yasuo's starting items will be probably PD/Shiv and IE then you continue with tanky items for example if you are vs ap you build maw Maw of malmortius if you are vs ad you can build Randuin's Omen ! You can probably add BOTRK if you are vs someone like volibear nasus e.t.c :) I hope this is helpful for you .

notajokebtw1 votes

try to pressure the enemy laner as much as possible

notajokebtw1 votes

he is pretty complicated considering his ult is useless unless you have a knock up teammate or you HAVE to land your nados (I'm a Yas player myself) plus if your behind your BEHIND unless you go into another lane and pick up a kill But! his all in is very strong which gives him a HUGE advantage, and he can outplay many champs if you play him correctly Also you shouldn't let them bait your windwall out if you can dodge it dodge it if you can't windwall if your teammate is low protect them with windwall
