Wind wall vs other champion terrains.

ÈvilMorty··55 votes·14,060 views

So was watching my friend play yasuo and he uses his wind wall on the kurgs to get vision on them so he can dash to them. I thought huh didnt know his wall granted him vision. So then that got me thinking why does yasuo's wind wall grant him vision but anivia wall and trundle pillar vision was taken away from them? Is it because you can use the wall/pillar from far away to act as a temporary ward? Or is it just the yasuo bias? idk

When Yasuo was released, Trundle and Anivia walls both gave vision still.

Yasuo's W range is significantly shorter than Trundle and Anivia's terrain creation, expires more quickly, and is arguably far more important (Yasuo generally dies if he uses his wall too early; Trundle was quite fine using his pillar to scout). I guess that, over his repeated nerfs, it was never much of an issue and so hasn't been 'normalized' yet.

Simply because Trundle Anivia terrain can be put much further away and covers a larger area. It provided way too much safety on a lower cooldown.

Uh, are you talking about wind wall with these 2 statements, because if you've ever played or seen Yasuo once it's maxed. You would not be excluding it.

We're talking about using terrain as scouting tools. Yes I am excluding Yasuo's wall as a reliable scouting tool.

Windwall has way more saftey than either of those terrain spells Its just that its versus ranged characters Trundle would kill for his pillar to block all incoming projectiles and its a much smaller model than yasou's W with trundle having no dash to engage with or hard cc to peel/ engage with at long range unlike these other 2 champions

Like the guy above; it's about using terrain as a scouting tool. It has nothing to do with what you're talking about.

The thing is Yas' windwall and Trundle's pillar are completely different abilities. Trundle E displaces and slows from 1000 range, and is actually terrain, unlike the windwall.

So we tradeing effects?

Good question.

Well i guess same reason his ult puts him out of turet range.just yasou stuff.

Wind Wall is not Terrain. it's a Null zone similar to Shen's W.

Terozu2 votes

Shen W is temporary terrain like Kindred W.

Shen's terrain grants something like dodge status to allies.

Nononononono.

Terrain are objects and obsticles created by champions to cut off enemy champs.

Yorick Trundle Anivia Ornn JarvanIV create Terrain.

Shen Fiora Yasuo Kindred Kled and Poppy Create a safety zone for their allies that buff, heal or protect them.

There are multiple types of terrain actually.

Yorick Trundle Anivia Ornn and Jarvan create structures.

Fiora Janna Kled and Poppy Shen Kindred and Yasuo have terrain effects.

Basically one type is structures the other is field effect, both are terrain. Though I would argue that Poppy's is actually an aura.

For instance, Anivia actually has two terrain spells, her Ult and her Wall. They're both terrain spells just different types.

like how we have walls, lanes, brush and river. They're all separate types of terrain. And for coding purpose so is the fountain, the base, and the zone around turrets.

(From http://www.dictionary.com) Link: http://www.dictionary.com/browse/terrain

Terrain:

A tract of land, especially as considered with reference to its natural features, military advantages, etc. Geology: terrane.

The second group simply create a zone, bubble or aura that is on the ground. Dropping water or a ball on the ground or lighting a fire is NOT considered to be part of a Terrain, Merely objects on it. To create Terrain you have to Terraform the ground

Thats not what im referring to.

Mist is also a type of terrain.

Many abilities in this game are terrain effects and terrain.

Especially in regards to gaming.

KZ Engel7 votes

"terrain" literally only refers to walls in this game. are you trying to imply that every ground aoe is a "terrain" lmfao

Terozu1 votes

Excuse me? THe game calls certain abilities terrain, and runes refer to river and jungle as terrain.

Strigina3 votes

Terrain effects? Try to stun enemy with those "terrains" as Vayne for example...

Terozu1 votes

Vayne stuns via walls not terrain.

Strigina4 votes

It literally says "terrain" in description of her E spell. You can even stun people on Annivia's wall or Jarvan's ulti with it. Now try the same with river or Shen's W.

The game also calls river terrain.

So clearly its not exactly great at labels.

I think it would make a lot of people mad if they a yasuo nerf in the patch notes only to find out its only wind wall giving vision

Starcraft243ver3 votes

I think any nerf would still make us happy :d

"the yasuo bias" jesus fucking christ gameplay is pathetic

AwesomeGuyDj2 votes

Because as Freeman bot said yasuo's windwall is near required for his survival and has almost no range compared to the other 2.

Thegreatxiu2 votes

I'm not exactly sure from a gameplay perspective, but thematically it'd make sense that a wall like Anivia's wall or Trundle's pillar would block vision, while Yasuo's windwall wouldn't block vision.

more Yasuo favoritism

Let's not forget that Windwall cannot displace units (enemy or ally) unlike Pillar of Ice and Crystallize.

But you know, there's more terrain creating abilities. like JarvanIV Cataclysm, Taliyah Weaver's Wall, Yorick Dark Procession, Azir Emperor's Divide. They grant vision too, but we can omit them the argument, I guess. They also displace units as well. I guess they must be hella OP since they can displace AND grant vision.

Karthus Wall of Pain grants vision too but is still allows enemies to pass through like Yasuo's Windwall.

Friendly Ram1 votes

Weirdly non solid walls like yasuo, jayce and karthus grant vision while solid ones do not anymore after riot nerfed them.

3TWarrior1 votes

to be honest, someone probably just forgot about it

either that, or its limited range makes it almost a non-factor as the same could be done with a ward

The Space Cowboy1 votes

There is some consistency with Jinx chompers for instance. They took the vision off for a second but I made a stink and coincidentally they put it back on.

Skorch1 votes

As a few other people said, if I had to guess, barely any people even know about or use this thing. And old terrain like it could. Trundle WAS using his pillar as a temp ward (Am i being ganked?) While because of Yasuo's short range. He CANT instead of a few small circumstances. And since no one uses it balance team probably legitimately forgot it existed. There were no "OMG YASUO WW GRANTS VISION, THIS WILL 100% GET NERFED" Videos on it.

So the people complaining about "Yasuo Favoritism" How about you be happy that when they nerf Yasuo, they actually nerf his damage or something. And not something 1% of yasuo players know about and use in 1% of their games.

Violet Fields1 votes

And you know what's weird, for some reason Karthus's W gives him vision, not even sure if both are considered "terrain" though.

Flashes1 votes

Karthus's w grants him vision but is not a strict "wall", but rather more akin to a skillshot that reduces resistances.

3TWarrior1 votes

and then technically not even that if it doesn't land ON them...

that change made things so much more of a nuisance

Elkington VI1 votes

It has annoyed me to no end that Trundle's Pillar got its vision removed, when it has done that since release. I can kind of understand Anivia, but Trundle is fully melee with no dashes (only a situational MS boost). Removing his vision changes his approach completely.

It really hurts him on maps like 3v3, where vision is extremely limited, and getting caught out equals death.

I really wish Riot would give Trundle back his vision. It hurts him a lot more than they seem to think.

FakeGravity1 votes

theres too many inconsistencies with vision and skills to me, for one why teemo mushrooms give vision? why lux q and w dont? why dont anivia wall block vision over itself?
