More defensive ap items

I just think the game needs at least 1 or 2 more defensive mage items for assassins and melee champs. Besides item 3157 and arguably item 3040 (gives a shield but takes forever to stack), there is little options besides opting for the less efective hp items. while AD champs get item 3156 item 3814 item 3139 and arguably the tank mr items likeitem 3065 which i see on many melee champs such as LeeSin Riven Fiora Irelia. I would like to see something like maw but for mages or a similar item in the future. Or maybe something along the lines of emitting a slow similar to item 3143 idk just my thoughts on the mater.

AP champs have several defensive items. They already have item 3157 item 3001 item 3027 item 3040 item 3152 . That's already quite a few and they're just the viable ones, there's also items like item 3151 , item 3116 and item 3030 which are less viable but still defensive AP items that exist.

Where AP is currently lacking is offensive itemisation. There's only a couple of good offensive items unless you're specifically a tear user, these are item 3165 and item 3135 . Then there's a few subpar items that you're forced into because the fields are baron in item 3089 and item 3285 . There's no good 5 offensive items+boots build for non tear champs currently though. There's only 4 usable offensive AP items in these builds and there is utterly no choice. You do the same build every game unless you specifically need Zhonya's. Mathematically the strongest build is item 3165 > item 3020 > item 3135 > item 3089 > item 3285 > ????. You never change the order of these items, the only time you ever sub one out is if you're forced into a defensive item. This is the problem with AP itemisation right now, there's a very clear optimal build.

this is only kind of true. some mages dont need full damage or dont focus on it such as Malzahar or Velkoz . malzahar needs to build items like item 3116 and item 3151 to help catch people and improve dot while vel'koz needs items like item 3158, item 3157 or item 3152 to reach max cd cap so he can get his passive onto targets more often.

If you're building protobelt on Vel'Koz, you're doing something wrong. Yes you want max CDR, but you take 10-15% scaling on runes, then morello's and either lucidity boots, abyssal (fuck that broken-ass item tho), or hourglass. Aside from that he actually does want as much straight AP as possible. Ever since the mage update, anyway.

i dont actually build protobelt on vel'koz i just used it as an example for one of the many items that he can build. only after you reach the max cd cap should you worry about increasing ap hard and this is due to the fact that vel'koz's passive is gonna be your main source of damage becuase true damage ftw.

But where possible, you generally go for Luden's before you go for the cdr cap. Morello has 100 AP so it absolutely doesn't count as low AP. The huge ratio buffs for passive and ult really were big for his build path.

before i go for ludens i usually want at least 30% cd which i get after morello and ionion boots

You don't run 10% scaling on blues?

you're really neglecting item 3027 I bet. that shit is strong- think about it... it turns your mana basically into more health.

oddly enough, you could also try learning item 3069 on your aps. sure you will get the stupid meta fucks who will bitch if you're not completely destroying cause you got a talisman, but its over-looked as one of the best items in the game.

Your forgetting that i did say mages have to opt for the less effective hp items i say less effective because while they offer hp they dont offer resistances so assassins and melee champs can still burn through it with extended fights

The Yetii Rider3 votes

There's no item in the game that offers AP/AD, resistances and health.

And yes, armor or MR is more effective than health in an extended fight, but AP champs should not be taking damage in extension. They are designed to go through their full rotation and either escape, get a kill or die. The exception to this are Battlemages like Viktor and Swain, but they have built in sustain in their kits with a repeatable shield/heal.

Honestly the healing on ROA is crap AD champs get like 20% of their dmg output as health while ap gets practically at most 25 health per spell cast

I'm hoping that item 3170 will be added to SR.

Troll for Trump2 votes

For the RoA people, picking RoA means you have to rush it usually, as you won't get full stacks in time otherwise, which is annoying. Since most mages are forced into getting Morello's

i disagree, i think rather than buffing defensive mage items, i think nerfing the defensive AD/MR hybrid options would be better. Adding defensive options allows people to make more mistakes because they can take more hits, and making this game harder/punishing is something i fully endorse.

item 3170? Anyone?

Especially siny APs usually have no access to Mercs.

It used to be a SR item, but no more.

or you can not suck ass and realize some of the skill in mages is kiting and avoiding damage

What's to keep an AP tank, or worse an assassin. from abusing a new defensive item?
