Do placement matches matter anymore?

So My friend (last season silver 4)during placements goes 1-9 and gets put in silver 5, my other friend goes 6-4(last season silver 2) ends in silver 4, I go 8-2 (gold 5 last season) and end up in bronze 1. So i am mildly upset and very confused on how this placement system even works, but I just want a answer to my question. Why is that when I do very well in my placements and finished higher in rank, that i end up in bronze then my friend does so bad but gets a higher placement?

The evidence is pretty much experience from every past season, everyone just gets placed around one tier below their old season ranking.

3 years and it's the same thing happening again.

Okay, thats not EXACTLY what i was trying to get at, But I think people are narrowing it down to W-L ratio, which in a team game, hardly determines your skill level, especially in 10 games. I have zero doubt that people willl be able to climb back up, but I bet those unlucky/tilted people even if they win wont really get a beneficial effect. For example carrying vs getting carried, if you carry and lose, good Cs, KDA, objectives, gold, towers, all the stuff, it will probably be better than feeding your ass off to a malphite then getting carried by yasou who dunks the malphite and stuff.

1 Tier, ur funny. Everyone in plat gets thrown about at random from low silver to low plat from placements with out any consideration to placement wins and losses. i have went mid plat to mid silver 3 years in a row now. Id LOVE to only be 1 tier lower

They don't matter, they put you were you belong, mrr wise, and i sorta wish it would just go back to where you played with peopel that have the same mmr as you.

since i played solo q i have roughly a 55%win rate so i get placed with the worst ppl this community has to offer so i do lose alot so my mmr is probably shit so i get placed in bronze because of what this system matches me with

I think I went 0-10 last season and still managed to land in s5 from g5.

I keep saying in every one of these posts that it's not how many times you win, but who you win against that factors in where you're placed, but I didn't win a single game, so idk how it chose my placement.

wut was ur winrate last season bc i was d5 with 66% win rate and i rly dont wanna do my placements right now if its this bad

and my placement luck is abysmal. I went 3-7 on my placements last season and went from P5 to G5 and had to climb all the way up to D5 rip. Never did better than 5-5 on placements in my life.

Only one way to go... but up!

(Btw I just played random position and did whatever I wanted went 5-5 and ended up in silver 5) (Of those 10 games, Champions that I am relatively unfamiliar with(Mao, twitch, poppy) I won 2, lost two... I actually went 1-1 on bard top too. I show little respect for ranked apparently.)

It's highly dependent on your mmr last season. Also, your performance in those placements might matter... they haven't ever been real clear on that, and for good reason. You don't want people gaming that system.

I went 7-3 (gold 5 last season) and got gold 5. I expected to be placed in bronze-silver, so that was quite unexpected.

What I know is that all 5th division have some players who deserve to be in a lower division than they actually are. You can lose a lot of mmr in the 5th division without actually dropping. I guess your mmr was very low :/
