My Problem with Mordekaiser

My problem with Mordekaiser is NIGHTFALL

http://img10.deviantart.net/81c5/i/2012/111/a/9/mordekaiser_by_skullsinacab-d4x3moj.png

#Look at that thing. All Big and Spiky.

I understand the thematic of having a big imposing Mace for a Warlord Tyrant, However I can't reconcile that the LORE of the Mace is holding Mordekaiser back in Gameplay.

##So I have to ask what does Nightfall do?

Riot insists it's "Magical" On every other Loading screen. At one Time it used to Conjure up Whirling Maces to strike out at Foes. Seems pretty Magical. Now? It glows red slightly. It used to count to 3 which had me believe the Mace was an intelligent item. ( But it doesn't do that anymore). So what does it do? How is it Magical? Because if it is Magical it CERTAINLY doesn't show it IN GAME.

BoardRegular: but Mordepool the Mace does a lot of damage maybe that's it's Magic.

That Mace is enormous and made out of Heavy Metal and would Rightfully crush the life out of any human on Rune Terra. If you want to claim something is Magical it should have a visual effect on Gameplay.

For example extending its Reach while becoming a Flailed Mace.

Having spikes imbed themselves in enemies

Apply grounding cc? Ignore resistances? ( Since Tanky targets take significantly less damage than squishy ones due to the scaling off of Damage done)

RIOT. SHOW ME ITS MAGICAL IN GAME

Considering the amount of counterplay packed into Mordes Q it certainly gets out classed by every AA reliant Champion who can burst Morde before he gets off two swings.

##Make it do Something

As it stands I have to ask

Who would win: a Magical Mace with a name. Or a lampost

the problem with Mordekaiser is he is balanced so take makes him a low priority for getting addressed.

his winrate is 50% in every elo except in diamond where it is 53% for some season

does he need work? sure.. his kit is VERY outdated... but the fact of the matter is... despite him being outdated, despite all the bugs... he is BALANCED.

and i would rather not have riot touch him an risk breaking something.

i miss the days where i could actually ban champions that could counterpick me and not be forced to ban someone because they're broken and riot hasn't addressed them

"balanced" 50% winrate does not mean "balanced"

That's actually exactly what it means.

If he's 50±1.5% winrate in every region, rank, and lane (Excepting the times we know all that's happening there is his mains playing him), he's by definition balanced.

Doesn't mean he's good, or properly done, but it means he's balanced.

Numbers don't mean everything. People complain when a champion is literally 2% or 3% above 50% which is literally nothing in terms of how many games have been played.

Because 2-3% over is too strong if it isn't accounted for by the meta.

Like, sure, a champion should be strong if most champions they counter are meta, because that makes sense - the game is filled with easy lanes for them. But if the meta doesn't favor them, they shouldn't be that strong.

no it isn't. If that was the case then anything below that would be UP and would need to be buffed and anything that is above that is broken and needs to be nerfed. Yet many people still call champions below or at 50% "broken" and just want to nerf them further and there are several champions above 50% winrate that nobody cares for and don't call them OP or anything.

50% winrate is not sign of balance. Winrate is a meaningless stat that can vary wildly depending on what is strong or weak at the moment or what the champion is being used against. Winrate by itself is pointless

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

The champions that are around twice that variation are usually either in need of buffs (unless kept weak on purpose: see Kalista) or nerfs, or are *accounted for by the meta rendering them that weak or strong).

The people that want champions nerfed when they're below 50% (in all roles, of course - a champion that has a 55%+ winrate in one lane needs to be nerfed, even if they're sub-50 in all other lanes), are, simply put, heavily biased, misinformed, or just...stupid, and should generally be ignored for balance decisions regarding that champion, because they're clearly unable to form an unbiased enough opinion of them to discuss balance.

"balanced" 50% winrate does not mean "balanced" 50% in every elo with a 0.3% banrate? id call that balanced..

like what kind of stats do u freaking want?

that's the DEFINITION of a "balanced" champion

Mordepool1 votes

Why u guys gotta be overly concerned with statistics

so what you are saying is that we should buff every single champion that is below 50% winrate and nerf every single champion that is above that right?

What I am saying is that you can Be balanced and Feel like Garbage to play.

That's Morde Right now!

They announced he might get a Rework next year.

So Im trying to say Fix His Q Since it doesn't live up to the Lore at all.

"balanced" you can keep saying that word a million times, means nothing. If he feels like garbage to play then he is not balanced at all. It should actually tell you how broken he actually is that he has a 50% winrate despite the numerous bugs he has and how terrible he feels to play

Mordepool1 votes

I'm very aware how broken he is. I see it every game.

so what you are saying is that we should buff every single champion that is below 50% winrate and nerf every single champion that is above that right?

.... if you ignore every other detail.. in essence yes...

but it also depends on:

  1. what the banrate is...
  2. how oppressive said champion FEELS to an opponent
  3. the pick rate 4 the winrate differential between elos
  4. if said champion was just changed and people need to adjust to a new playstyle...
  5. or the amount of skill it takes to beat him compared to the skill it takes to play him

NONE of those apply to Mordekaiser so the calculation of balance is a simple..

his winrate is the same in every elo.. there is no differential, he isn't a champion that is frequently banned or that feels oppressive in his current state.. his winrate isn't being disturbed by changes, an influx of new players who don't know how to place him.. or changes that need to be adjusted to.

so yes... given those circumstances with every other variable that would effect the equation of balance not being a factor... YES at THAT point its a simple look at the winrate.. being above 50 or not.

but that only works in this case because there ARE no other variables he is being affected by.

They didn't address him when he averaged a 46% winrate for 2 years either. That's not the point of this thread however. I want Mordes Mace to be something unique in Game.
