Maokai's New W (concept)

Hi Summoners and Rioters! I thought of a great idea that could put Maokai in a better place as people believe he didn't get majorly reworked like Sejuani and Zac for this year's tank update. All his moves are great EXCEPT his W is odd in my opinion. Why would he have two root moves now? Sure one applies to multiple targets but in addition the W makes you untargetable for a few seconds. But the W seems useless now that there is the new ultimate. As such, I have thought of a new W ability that should take Twisted Advance's place.

W - Vengeful Maelstrom: Maokai shields his allies by drawing power from hostile spells and attacks, reducing non-tower damage done to allied champions in the area. When Maokai ends the effect, he unleashes the absorbed energy to deal damage to enemies within the vortex. Toggle: Maokai surrounds himself with a magical vortex that protects him and allied champions by reducing damage from non-turret sources by 20% for up to 10 seconds.Maokai can end the effect to release the stored energy, dealing 100/150/200 (+50% Ability Power) (+2 per damage absorbed) magic damage to enemies within the vortex. Maokai can store up to 100/150/200 bonus damage.

Now I know what you're thinking- that was his old ultimate. But bear with me this ability can be toned down.

Let me know your thoughts with Maokai having two root abilities.

as a maokai main ... NO

it is his old ult which riot and the player base didnt like.

his new W is weaker then the previous one by the % hp damage being moved over to his E

he needs the single target engage that his W provides.

the whole point of the rework was to make the players playing him be able to tell they difference between just the casual player playing him and a main or someone who is truly good on maokai. which the rework with his ult does .

he is meant to be a cc machine and that is what he is. he is tanky and has sustain but his damage and dueling power has been clearly toned down.

he is still strong but not over bearing and has clear weakness and can be played around now. as before with his old ult it would allow maokai to win 1 vs 1 trades and all ins which ( even though i loved ) a tank shouldnt of done vs a champ of same level but greater damage output. now to be able to win that 1 vs 1 you clearly have to out play your enemy to do so.

Okay then. Thanks for your input. I just thought having two roots was a bit much. But now you put things in perspective. I thought his W would be nice if it was his old ult for Maokai supports to temporarily shield their allies from that damage to make Maokai more supporty. But I get it now. Thanks so much for helping me see what I needed to.
