Ekko’s W
I’m a noob at Ekko, I admit it. I suck as him. What’s more disappointing is his W is super tough to use. Can you guys provide insight on how to use it? Or at least maximize performance with it?

Not an Ekko main but , not really hard for me it's kind of easy to use in 5 vs 5 fights the more you stun , the more you guarantee winning the fight , the comments here already explained how to use properly
Learned this one the hard way, AKA playing against Ekko as a melee, but Ekko's W will proc both the AoE stun and the shield while you are in stasis. So if you time it, you can come out of stopwatch/zhonya's with either a stun or a big shield.
In some cases, if the enemy is slowed enough, both.
- Tips against ranged is to hide in a bush and use it, they can't hear it till it appears, so you can get em that way, or use it when you're about to engage even if they walk out, still attack cause the shield will win you the trade most of the time.
- Against melees, especially those like Yii that would wreck Ekko in a straight up duel, put it under yourself and they'll usually stay on top of you and get stunned, as long as you didn't move around too much your shadow should catch up, so ult them and it's an easy win.
- Team Fights, try to hit it to engage by being out of sight and getting the ADC, but that's harder to do the higher your elo. The best way is to let the teamfight start and use it after to either catch a squishy or multiple enemies. Don't overvalue the ADC all the time, unless they're superfed, if you can get 3 enemies but the ADC isn't one, that's still good, it'll win the fight.

Don't cast it while in the vision range of enemies. Biggest mistake noob ekko's make. You should always make sure the enemies can't see you before using it. Obviously in clutch situations you can use it quickly whenever but when trying to assassinate or engage make sure you are out of sight. Also using your w then immediately using your q slightly cancels the w animation from ekko himself which can make it harder to see.
VS ranged champions, make sure they can't see you then throw it towards them. However, if a melee champion is onto you, throw it at yourself, as it will either stun them or force your opponent to run away.
