Riot, there is one aspect of the game you need to remember

The other maps

When it was released, we were promised a ranked queue on Crystal Scar. Years later, that has not happened.

Champion mastery is not awarded for maps other than Rift.

Magma chamber is just scrapped, I guess.

Some champions have mechanics that cannot be used on other maps (Azir passive on dominion, Morde R passive everywhere but rift)

A lot of these would take some time to implement, so I can forgive them, but no champion mastery? Seriously?

Something tells me that Riot tries something, or promises something, only to find that in Market testing, things arn't as good as they hoped.

Magma chamber was designed to be a permanent version of the 1v1. Snowdown Showdown. Yet Showdown didn't get the reception they hoped, which made it understandable why they scraped the map, and the game mode.

as for Dominion. Their is a certain Stalemate of "Players won't play Dominion until Riot supports the map." and "Riot won't support the map until players showed interest." This in mind, I'm not sure a Ranked Q is going to increase interest that much. Rather it would divide it's already small player base, between normals and ranked. Crystal Scar needs to be interesting on it's own merit before a Ranked Q would be reasonable.

As for Champion mastery not applying to other maps. I'd imagine they don't want to use the same champion masteries, as they represent different maps. It's possible that they started with SR just to test the Champion mastery system. Then again, it's possible they didn't design the system with multiple maps in mind. (Which is rather poor implementation.)

With snowdown, they looked at the data wrong IMO. If I remember correctly, a permanant 1v1/2v2 style was scrapped because players only spent (on average) 15% of gametime in snowdown. I don't really get how they expected more; the games only lasted ~5 minutes; even if half of a players games were on that gamemode, it would only take up 20% of their total playtime at maximum (assuming 20 minute rift games, would be even lower for 35-45 minute games)

The way I see Dominion is that the players who have truly mastered it, and prefer it to summoners rift, can't get any recognition for their time with a rank like people can on Rift.

As for mastery, it doesn't matter what map you are on; each of the secondary maps emphasizes a skill. Treeline is about communication, map awareness, building a teamcomp with limited members, and small teamfights. Howling Abyss is constant teamfighting with the added part where you have to die strategically to get stronger without giving up too much. The Crystal Scar is all about skirmishes and rotations; capture points and protect them, be ready to haul ass over to the windmill to aid your Azir in that 3v1 so you don't lose the crucial point, but make sure to keep someone to protect the boneyard from conniving Shacos. Also, you improve your mechanics by playing a champ, no matter the map (with the exception of Morde dragon ghost).

Well, in terms of mastery, I can understand how my ability to play Darius in Dominion or TT does not translate to my ability to play him on Rift. Just because I can use a certain combination of items from Dom or TT, doesn't mean I am proficient with him in the MAIN game mode of League of Legends, which is what this is about. League is made entirely around its MAIN mode, much like every other MOBA (Save HotS, HotS is an interesting example). If I'm not "mastering" a champion in the way the game is balanced for, then I can understand why I don't earn mastery.

"Hi, I'm a level 5 mastery Darius!"

"Oh but I never play on summoners rift. So like, where's my item 3104?"

The problem with that argument is that Mastery level doesn't translate to proficiency at all. It's purely a measure of time spent playing a champion. Someone who plays absolutely awfully game after game will still eventually reach level 5 Mastery, regardless of whether they learn anything about that champion. Alice playing Darius at 2k MMR will probably beat Bob playing Darius at 500 MMR, even though Alice is a level 0 TT main and Bob is a level 5 SR main.

Ao Shin wasn't like this. It was more of the fact that the revealed him WAY WAY WAY too soon, as he didn't even have a decent kit down, nor did they have the tech at the time to make the slender dragon figure work.

Don't forget that one time they promised separate balance changes for different maps, did those for like two patches and then stopped completely.

...do you just skip over the bottom of the patch notes? Almost every single patch in s5 had changes that only applied to TT and/or crystal scar and/or howling abyss.

Your memory is a little off. The patches from S5 with any documented alternate maps changes are 5.1, 5.6-5.11, 5.13, 5.15, 5.17, and 5.18. That's 11 out of 21 patches, far from "almost every single patch."Furthermore, 5.6 and 5.7 were just follow-ups for SR's AP itemization changes, and 5.18 only added recall animations. 5.15 and 5.17 were also just follow-ups to the Gangplank and Garen reworks to make their ult and W, respectively, usable on alternate maps.

By the way, the last champ balance change, aside from those follow-ups, was during 4.15 in August 2014.

My point is that it wasn't, "just two patches" but thanks for totally nit picking my post anyway.

He exaggerated the rarity; you exaggerated the regularity. I replied to you because the true answer was closer to "none" than to "all."

How is over 50% closer to none? And he didn't say none, and I didn't say all. My point wasn't that they fucking love the others maps so much and they update them every chance they get, my point is that they are active on those maps.

They lied. plain and simple. they went back on their word.

Honestly? At this point they should just remove TT and Dom. Spruce them up, and put them on a rotating "special game mode" with urf/doombots/ect... They are not supporting the maps to a good level. So they should just remove them with the hope that people will be more excited when they come back in small amounts of time.

Orangesilk2 votes

They simply aren't played by anyone at all, simple as that.

Here in LAN, we don't even HAVE a Dominion queue, nor do we have ranked TT, and there's so few people playing TT the matchmaker is really fuzzy and ALL GAMES end up in stomps. This isn't fun and people migrate away from the maps.

4 years ago i also saw a post of a riotler saying they will turn the map 45° so both sides have the same camera angle. nothing happened until in s5 they gave red side a "deeper" cam angle. still thats not what was promised. riot talks a lot when the day is long.

speaking of which... supposedly the whole reason for that was because the map really was 2D (you physically could not rotate it), but ever since the update to SR I was expecting to be able to view it sideways... hell they even do it in the intros in LCS where they rotate and zoom and then go up through the lanes. How is it we are still stuck with the crappy angles we have.
