What if teamplay actually mattered?

And by teamplay I mean more than just being there in time to do or to soak damage.

I'm talking about champion abilities.

Supports aside, the number of champions who have mechanics which interact in a meaningful and satisfying way with the abilities/design of other champs are limited.

Pulling off that orianna+malphite+yasuo combo we all know feels just right for example. But whether it's on ultimates or basic abilities, league would improve if more combo/team mechanics were added outside of the support spectrum.

As it stands, it seems like a lot Champs are designed to function for 100% on their own, which increases the tendency for selfish gameplay. Which is ok but only as long as there is some balance.

Orianna is a wonderful example of good champion design. Her kit just gets stronger with a teammate around without breaking her while soloing. I'd love to see more like her.

Aaand here i'm going to quit ranting before we all get buried in a wall of text.

Wombo Combos are fun, aren't they? They are also rare for a reason.

Back when there was real lore this was explained far better (what you're talking about), and sadly the game simply still runs the same way without the lore to back it up. Champions ARE independant of each other, entirely, and part of the challenge is to bring these varied misfits into a working whole. There are an incredible amount of combos most people never consider, right up until they get hit by them. (Annie, Jax, Warwick for example)

It 's not just wombo combo's though. The small things are important too. Think about thresh's lantern for example (even though he's a support) or Taliyah knocking someone into yoricks prison. That is impactful interaction between two champs. League could get healthier if things like these were more encouraged and more fluent to pull off or maybe, if not mainly, openly integrated in the champion kits. But that's just my opinion.

I'm not familiar with the lore but I believe that gameplay and lore in general are very hard to mix in a satisfying way. Discrepancies are unavoidable. Maybe that leaves enough room to bring those misfits together in a more team oriented way?

That is rather what I mean. How do you decide on the synergy? Let's go with nationality. The Demacians, Ionians, Noxians, Piltoverians (best I got since they aren't all Yordles) work with their nationality. You've now created a game that is entirely based on building teams on these precepts. Those from Freljord or The Void no one cares about.

You can build these themed teams, as now days they all have the classes needed for a successful team, and they work well together. Some teams do this and have great success... but THIS team synergy already exists in the game. It was lore based, now it just works.

Seeing more interactions would be fun - however I'd keep those interactions small and gimmicky. Basic Ability/Passive-Level , not Ultimate-Level Things like Malph-Yas is just obnoxious and feels terrible to play against.

Like Sol+Tahm(the Star Taxi)

I got Tahm to lvl 6 though that interaction alone(not the first 5 lvl's, but the S's). So satisfying to bring down other people by letting Sol expand his stars, eating him, running at the enemy with +60% ms, most likely getting a few kills, then spitting him out towards safety(points if it is over a wall).
