Should I Pick Up Azir?

I am very conflicted at the moment. I'm a very new player, not even level 30 yet, but I want to main Azir. The reason I'm conflicted over this decision is actually very simple: I love Azir and all Shuriman lore, but Azir is extremely difficult to play, apparently.

Before I even started playing this game, I loved it's lore. Especially when it came to Shurima. The stories of demigods, warriors, mages, and bounty hunters captured my heart in a way that lore in other games has yet to do. I love the stories that characters like Taliyah, Nasus, Sivir, Xerath (even though he's a backstabbing naive) take part in. And most of all, I love the Emperor of the sands, Azir.

The problem is how Azir is in-game. I hear from many people that Azir used to be this God Tier champion who was seen in pro play a lot, but now he was nerfed so much he is just a shell of what he just was. People say that although he is extremely difficult to play, he doesn't give the same level of reward he used to.

So, in the end, my main question is this: Would Azir be worth picking up and maining?

My dude, let me tell you something. There is a player out there right now that mains Aatrox like it's nobody's business. Do you thing the meta is gonna stop that player from playing Aatrox? Hell no. I will admit that azir is difficult to play at first, but it will be so much worth it to learn and master him. Think about it. At some point there will be players that dont know how to fight against him 'cause they dont play against him often. Honestly if you want to get good at him, learn the shurima shuffle, or learn how to use e then q with precise timing to make fantastic plays. I wont lie to you though. Even if you become a one-trick pony with Azir, Riot really did nerf him hard. It will feel like you are most likely to die then to gain kills, but he's so much fun. As much fun as Jhin, so it makes up for it imo.

Ah. I've heard of this Aatrox player. I remember he jungles with Aatrox.

Thanks for the advice by the way! I'll try to keep other champions in my pocket while maining Azir.

Azir got nerfed really hard over the Seasons, but yes, he's still very much worth it. And don't listen to the people that say he is hard; you can learn him well above basics over a weekend. First few games, wtf do I do. Then, each game you will start learning more and more mini tricks you can do with Azir, and go WHOAAA, you can do that?

But yeah, he is not that hard. Just put aside some time to specifically play him, and you'll get it quickly.

EDIT: Although, there are better champs to play, since Azir in the current meta is meh.

He's not hard because of how his kit works. He's hard because he's shite until late late game, and is extremely team reliant up till that point. Not to mention, almost every mage/assassin counters him

So I see you guys have said that there are other Champions that have more of a place in the game at the moment. I still plan to play Azir often, but are there any other characters that might be good to pick up? I should mention that even at this low level I prefer mid to late game.

Edit: Mid laners and junglers are the champions I want to play.

You should learn jungle. Junglers have to watch map at all times and know where enemy is etc, so learning Jungle will help learning crucial league skills.

Junglers can also carry hard, so I'd recommend it.

no, i don't care what anyone else says, literally any mage is better than azir, he's got a cool kit but you'll lose 80% of the time and his damage is laughable

Go for it, I'm lv 7 azir and it was great, the process of getting to max lv. He's really difficult to play as because he really is a champ you need to be at the very least decently mechanical, be able to make good quick desicions, and be able to survive till you get rylai's and void. Also, learning the different methods of the shurima shuffle and utilizing the drift perfectly will make you look like an azir ArKaData. One time, i was called an azir one-trick smurf and IT. FELT. GREEAATT. Also, since your not lv 30 yet, it's somewhat safe to say ur still kinda new to the game. You should try to play as many different champions as possible. He's also a decent champion to practice cs on. Just watch out for a LOT of matchups and mana consumptions.

i mean champs that can get past your wall with ease, like champions with blinks, spell shields, and unstoppable forces. Also, champs with great mobility. I think zed may be tough, seeing as how he can w, ult, q, or flash to deal damage, just rush zhonya's in that case. I personally am just bad at facing yas, but azir is a good matchup against him, even though he's got his e, you've got great range, and a displacement skill. Basic advice, play passive. Azir is a pacifist. BTW, Faker once said that all mid lane mains should be decent at ryze (Because he teaches the player how to press the right keys at the right time) and TF (Because he teaches the player to constantly watch the map). If you want to main Azir, go ahead, but keep in mind players like Tobias Fate and Annie Bot only play one champion too, and it's not easy.

You would have to learn to play him in multiple roles atleast like they do.

If you enjoy League and Playing Azir, i say go for it. but you would be labeled as a "One trick"

No. Of all champs, no.

If you somehow manage to become god at playing him

you'll be average for any other champ

he's been nerfed so hard, he's just a shit champ.

I can play any brain dead champ and do 10x more with no difficulty

If you're looking for skill-based ones, look at Katarina, Orianna, Cassiopeia, and Ryze. I like Kat and Ryze. (these are mids)

malzahar is a good starter champion that isnt super complex.

I personally don't jungle unless I'm playing flavor of the month. I don't enjoy jungling unless it's a tank like Sejuani, but she's shit tier right now.

Cassiopeia is great to start out.

I still recommend picking up Azir, but don't expect to do good with him. You need to learn how to farm properly and position yourself perfectly to do a lot of damage lategame. He's kind of weak right now compared to other champions though. Totally worth playing for fun though.

Katarina relies on being quick and using your blinks correctly to avoid CC and damage. Easy to play, hard to master.
