I don’t understand the Irelia hate

I really never have a problem against Irelia. Perhaps I’ve only ever gone against bad Irelias, or perhaps it’s the champions I play, but Irelia is usually an easy matchup.

And another thing I’m confused about is that Irelia doesn’t even that high of a winrate. If she had like a 53% winrate with a 15% play rate, then I’d understand. However, Irelia only has a 50% winrate with an 8% winrate.

winrate is influenced by too many variables and despite how powerful that champ is you cannot win every game

look at performance - she is best performing toplaner since late april and now when worlds propagated her in midlane she also dominates midlane

irelia is one of the highest skill cap champs in the game, so even 50% is pretty high for her considering that pick rate

I don't know about the rest of everyone, but for me personally, I hate her bounciness.

Similarily to yasuo, riven, and vayne to a lesser extent, irelia can just bounce off of minions and make it really hard to hit skillshots until she has either used all your minions (yay now hers are hitting you or the turret) or is literally on your face, slapping you at an increasing rate (yay passive). Additionally, if you play champions with larger hitboxes (cho, anivia, maokia, stuff like that), her hitbox on the stun will hit, unless she is special.

Then there's her ult, which, while I appreciate its uniqueness to her, is really fukin irritating (like a windwall. unique, but also fuck it). She can just fire that off into a teamfight, hit anyone (read, even if you dodge it, your jng who's been running at people all game will eat it and spread it to the rest of you) and mess up the entire teamfight, since she can then bounce off of all of you, as well as shred your shields, as well as stop you from autoing if you try and kite.

I usually play artillery mages, so all this bouncy/antikite makes it really rude to me personally.

irelia can be really annoying becuase her Q does so much dmg with only a triforce. and she can use her Q 3 times vs you if she hits her E and ult. and she has her W to block dmg. she feels like she has way to much mobility. and she does so much dmg even tho shes so tanky

Ok, let me explain it to you. Irelia is pretty much like Zero from UMvC3 or Bayonetta from Sm4sh in the sense that if she touches you once, you die. In lane if she hits you with E and you're not under tower, you die, and if she gets level 6? Say goodbye to your life. She can do this touch-of-death playstyle throughout the entire game, there's no single point where she can't do it, even when she's behind you bet your backside she'll still 100-0 you. Oh, and there's no real interaction with this either, especially if she's sent mid lane, up against mages and assassins who cannot really compete with her mobility, damage and general DPS.

That's honestly THE main issue, she's a menace when sent mid lane, and it's not like Riot can make her fuck off to top lane either since any buffs to Irelia in general will just make her better mid lane.

Then you have the issue of her kit being overloaded. She has sustain, damage reduction (that can't be cancelled by your opponent btw), a stun, tons of mobility, a slow+disarm that acts as a kill button and a passive that breaks through shields (200% damage to shields) as well as provides her with a substantial amount of free AD and attack speed simply for spamming her abilities (namely Q).

Bad Irelias are easy asf to dismantle since they don't know how to properly kill you when they hit E and/or R. Semi-decent to good Irelias will make you want to fucking permaban the champion since she's just obnoxious. In my honest opinion Irelia is THE most broken champion when in the hands of a player that knows what they're doing since she has an overloaded kit that's oppressive and she's extremely overpowered.

  1. Her winrate is irrelevant. She is 'high skillcap' in so far as you have to be a decent player to execute her combo properly. So theres plenty of trash players playing her (as evidenced by literally every Irelia on my team ever feeding 10 kills)

  2. How do you not see a problem with Irelia instantly killing most immobile mages at lvl 6 with literally 0 counterplay? Did you not watch this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q43z-X-xj8I

Pro player getting solo killed 100-0ed pretty much instantly. No counterplay to speak of. Nothing he could do. Irelia chilling at over 60% hp. Seems fine to me.

Neither do i. And frankly i doubt i will ever learn.

champion.gg has her listed as the #1 ranked overall pick for top and mid, a highly popular champion with extremely high pick rates will have their win rates lowered because inexperienced players who follow the meta closely will try to use her. In the hands of really good irelias though she is an absolute nightmare.

I just really hate how much of a snowball Irelia can be.

Her Q later on can one shot ranged minions, offering her instant healing and good gold with a minimal expense of time since it resets on kill and at that with a low mana cost.

Irelia's W can be tricky, although a good tool, not something I'd call broken. Let's leave it at that.

Her E can be good. It's an easy read as long as she doesn't hide it with her other animations and flashy moves, getting hit by it is pretty punishing because it prepares her passive on you rather easily.

Let's chat about that passive. Ionian Fervor is pretty damn solid. Once you hit max stacks, you do up to 68 + (16% Bonus AD) magic damage , up to 50% attack speed at max level, and absolutely shreds through shields (up to 136 + (32% Bonus AD) magic damage).

Now that R, the ultimate, something that's really annoying and that can turn the team fight entirely. It knocks away enemy champions, slows them for 60% (pretty big slow if you ask me) AND disarms the one's hit by the ability. Now the damage isn't really surprising, nothing too much. It's the fact that it disarms you for 1.5 seconds, making you absolutely vulnerable that annoys me. After you're hit (It has a generous hit box), Irelia can dash you, CC you with her E, dash you again and if you retaliate, you get hit with her defensive option. It technically means that you can't escape her so that she can dive the ones hit without repercussion. It also procs her Ionian fervor too.

Honestly, the champ is pretty slippery, making it hard to trickshot sometimes as a good defensive and hard CC as well as great fast and easy damage. If you want to counter Irelia, you'd have to outrange her and stay back quite a bit as well as minimise her farming capability so she doesn't snowball too hard...

Oh..

Teemo ...

Moody P10/18/2018, 6:56:36 PM1 votes

irelia should be considered overpowered at a 50% tbh

Vlada Cut10/18/2018, 4:15:56 PM1 votes

They complain because it's hard to itemize defensively against her. Buy armor and magic ressist vs. her mixed damage and you just get conqueror procced Q's right in your face. Or because a good Irelia player knows how to land R/E to make the most out of her Q resets

naymless10/18/2018, 4:44:53 PM1 votes

Aside from her early lane all in potential, it's her ability to kill anyone quickly on her sheen and triforce powerspikes. I've had games on her where i've fell behind (0/1 or 0/2) and I just made sure I went to the lane with the mage in it because I could just run them down with my ult, even if they were under their tower and kill them extremely quickly. I can't imagine how playing an adc into that must feel if mages are that helpless.

However, it is VERY important to note that this isn't all that different from old irelia. She spiked VERY hard on sheen and triforce, as well as having later spikes with triforce and bork if she needed to kill a tank in the sidelane.
