Are Mana items really op? or does riot hate mana?

With the new changes to doran ring, I thought it was a interesting change. But then I remembered, over years, riot has slowly been nerfing mana items, or all things mana related.

  • Removed clarity from rift
  • Changed Athena's to a support item
  • Removed mana % regen from many items
  • Lowered the mana % regen on non tank items.
  • Increased the mana cost for champions during nerfs and buffs
  • Makes Doran ring now have a unique passive.
  • with the new rune changes, I'm sure they will even remove mana regen runes

This makes champs with low mana pool's harder to play imo Diana Brand Garen Morgana without rushing certain items. I even remember a post a while back about riot not liking the idea of how circumstantial mana %regen was, and they preferred flat mana instead.

So with that being said, do you guys thin mana items are too op? or is riot just secretly trying to nerf mana regen items

Mentions every nerf that ever happend to mana items in the last few years. Doesn't mention a single buff that happend. This is how you come to a 100% correct conclusion.

Don't know if this is a troll post because Garen is mentioned as having low mana......... Also if you play with mana regen runes you are playing with subpar runes anyways. The changes to mana were good and currently the only champions who have problems with mana are champions who don't want to buy much mana like Azir Diana Brand it isn't a problem with mana items but what the champion's kits can best optimize through items.

wasn't a troll post, just a small joke tossed in there, didn't know people would get salty about it XD ( considering my down vote rate ).

but what I was really trying to make a discussion. Considering the trend, it seems like riot wither intentional or not, has been nerfing mana items for a long time.

OK, Imma gonna trust you on that post not being a troll, but it's still full of subtle errors.

  • Mana costs haven't increased on average. Some were nerfed, some were buffed, but there hasn't been a general tendency to increase mana costs.
  • There never was a post about how %mana regen was circumstantial. What they actually said was that mana regen was too binary, and that if you reached a certain threshold, you could just regen endlessly and never needed to back. They continued saying that was OK for Supports, because they need more map presence to ward, roam, etc., but that AP Carries, as a much more proactive role, should have some down time to offer opportunities to the opposing team to react. So Supports get Regen, Carries get Flat Mana.
  • No one who plays seriously is taking Mana Regen on Runes. Except maybe a 0.01% occurrence for very specific circumstances at super high ELO where people have 10 slightly different Rune Pages for the same role and adapt super precisely to every game. Leagueofgraphs doesn't even register Mana Regen Runes because their use rate is so low.

Overall, no, Riot doesn't hate mana.

The exact quote was about how flat Mana was a stat for mages and Mana Regen a stat for supports.

No mage has mana problems beyond 10 minutes generally.

But nice trolling effort, I rate 4/10

Considering the vast number of buffs to AD champions and nerfs to AP champions and AP champion items its kind of obvious they are aiming to weaken mages so that their favored champions can steamroll all over them with less and less difficulty. Its no secret, when you actually go through with a nerf from 1.5% mana regen to 1.25% as if that'll make any difference you obviously are playing favorites with those who use it and those who do not. Garen, however, doesn't use mana so I have no clue why you used his picture.

The very fact in early 2016 they pulled all mana potions entirely shows how much they care for casters, and banner lost its mana component just this patch. I guess they want us to use no-skill champs like Yasuo and Tryndamere instead of learning Xerath or Viktor and punish anybody who does by making it more difficult to keep up.

No, they aren't trying to nerf mana items. If anything, mana is more easy to come back now than previous seasons. Double stacking Doran's ring was always an issue, but even more so, now that AP tanks are stronger.
