So I entered Silver and I was gaining around 18-20 LP for a win and losing 14-16 on a loss. I then went on a massive loosing streak and got flagged red warning me I was about to demote. Now when I win a game I get about 14-16 lp but I lose 20lp on a loss. Is this normal?

Your LP gains/losses depend on your MMR compared to your current division. If your MMR is much higher than expect for your division, you'll gain 20+ LP and lose somewhat less, while if your MMR is lower than expected for your division you'll gain less but lose more.
Yeah. LP gain/loss is determined by your MMR. Going on streaks has a large effect on your MMR, so you going on a "massive" losing streak has lowered your MMR to a level below your current rank. If your MMR is lower than your rank indicates, you will lose more LP in losses and gain less in wins.
