They say your promotion matches are a best 2 of 3.
Little do they know it's actually a best 3 of 4.
With the first game being a required victory =c

riot has promised ranking changes in the next season, although i doubt they'll try anything gamebreaking, skill showing, or wildly different. im sure it will still be largely dependent on win/loss.
riot just has to have that scaling logarithmic curve for ranking to show that diamond players are the elite of the elite (when in reality they're really only slightly better than or just group better than low plat/high gold). ((but they play way more and just so happen to have won instead of lost key games)) (((i wont say they're even, ofc an average diamond player is better than the average plat-gold player, but the gap in skill level is far far less than bronze to gold)))
I'm actually okay with the current system of promos. What I'm not okay with is a dodge during promos counting as an instant loss. I had two promo games in a row with trolls earlier(A yasuo who wasn't the account owner, was his little brother or something, had no idea how to play, said account owner had left to do something, and an Ezreal that took midlane when Veigar already had picked before him, and proceeded to feed the LB all crazy like), and was unable to dodge either one without it being an instant loss. I guess had I dodged both I'd be at 87 LP, out of my promos, instead of 64 LP, out of my promos.. But still.
Yeah, only part of promos that bothers me is the inability to dodge during them.
I agree you should be allowed one free dodge per 24 hour period.
Looking at it that way, Its actually a best 3 out of 4, with 1 free win. Mathematically, that is still a best 2 of 3.
QQ logic fail.
"free win" implying you get to just not play it and have it be a victory.
It's a REQUIRED win, not a FREE win.

If it is required, then you already have that win; therefore, the series starts at 1-0 in a best of 4. In essence, you have a free win.
Except you had to win the game. You had to actively participate it and earn it.
That is not the definition of "free."

Technically the Definition of "Free" is:
enjoying personal rights or liberty, as a person who is not in slavery:
pertaining to or reserved for those who enjoy personal liberty:
existing under, characterized by, or possessing civil and political liberties that are, as a rule, constitutionally guaranteed by representative government:
enjoying political autonomy, as a people or country not under foreign rule; independent.
exempt from external authority, interference, restriction, etc., as a person or one's will, thought, choice, action, etc.; independent; unrestricted.
able to do something at will; at liberty
clear of obstructions or obstacles, as a road or corridor
"Free" is used Idiomatically to mean "without cost".
Ultimately, the game you play that gets you into a promo series has no real bearing on the Promo series. You could just as easily say the series is actually a best of 5, with two required wins and a Bo3/5.
You're being really pedantic for very little benefit, and I'd specifically like to touch on the following:
You could just as easily say the series is actually a best of 5, with two required wins and a Bo3/5.
This is not correct. Depending on your MMR, you could theoretically lose the game two before the promo then win the game before the promo. You could also drop out of a promo with two sequential losses, landing at 90 LP, then win a game to get into that series.
The argument of promotionals being 3/4 instead of 2/3 is a literal fact, because in order to get into that 2/3 you need to win the game immediately preceding it. There is no possible way to get into a 2/3 promotional game without winning the game before it, so statistically speaking that game is a requirement for completing that promotional series.
the series starts at 1-0 in a best of 4
...which would still make it a best 3 of 4. For all your talk about logic you have a huge blind spot on this one, and your usage of the idea of free win isn't actually relevant outside a conceptual model.
No matter how you swing it, a player needs to win at least three out of the next four games to pass through a promotional series; the defined start point of said series doesn't actually matter.
I swear.
I have been saying this forever.
The worst is division promotions. Best 3 of 5?
More like Best 4 of 6.
